Better than Dracula
Having just read Dracula for the first time, I thought I'd explore the genre a little more. Carmilla is certainly the best of those I have read so far. It's quite short, but intriguing and, frankly, rather erotic in its way. But, like all good books of this kind, it lets your imagination do the work. I found it a far more sensitively written tale than Stoker's better known story, especially as dear old Bram gives too much free rein to Van Helsing's rather tiresome ramblings. Being pro-vampire myself (vampire-positive?), I find Carmilla the more appealing story, while still full of gothic atmospherics - dark forests and castles, somewhat sinister people in carriages and a beautiful, mysterious and languid girl with a penchant for.... but I don't want to spoil the story. My own tribute (in my first novel, an inversion of Stoker's story) is to name a panther after Le Fanu's eponymous character. It was the least I could do!

Pretty.
The book itself is very pretty, good looking, feels premium, the pages and the font. As for the story, it's nice, a little slow i would say but nice. It personally made me wanna read from as i kept reading, also made me curious for the rest of the day that I wasnt reading.

Bought as a gift.
Bought as a gift for someone who loves Halloween. Nice book. It’s a shorter story than expected, could be read in a few hours.

The almost Legendary Tale
There have been many adaptations of Carmilla on film and I believe that I have seen every one of them but nothing prepared me for this novella. Most films only scratch the surface of the tale. I strongly recommend that you take time to read this book from beginning to end. You will not be disappointed.

Poorly edited book, avoid!
Edited so poorly! No spaces between commas, wrong use of ‘it’s’. Just all round terrible punctuation. It’s so frustratingly distracting. I had to check a sample of carmilla on the Apple Books app just to be sure this wasn’t how the original book was written. (Spoiler, it really is just terrible editing!) Honestly, who was in charge of proofreading? Sack them!

Carmilla. Discovered this absolute gem of a book first published in the year 1871. Beautifully written, every line a delight it tells the story of a female vampire. Short, not one line is superfluous, (only 156 pages) I could not put it down. Not a single self indulgent, wordy or boring sentence by the writer. No excessive or explicit horror just a matter of fact telling of a chilling tale set in a beautiful wooded countryside. It’s as perfect as can be.

Vampires and sapphic, that is all you need to know. Quick and easy to read. A must read if you like Dracula and other vampire stories

I have been wanting to read this book for a long while, but I also wanted a book that looked and felt nice on my shelf. The book came exactly as described and I couldn’t be happier with it.
