This really is a smart way to drink water.
The LARQ Water Bottle is not just another reusable water bottle, it’s the world’s first self cleaning water bottle. It’ll purify your water and neutralize that bottle stink that everyone hates. The UV-C technology built into the lid, eradicates up to 99.9999% of bacteria and 99.99% of viruses in Adventure Mode, meaning you can sterilize water found in streams while out hiking for example. It’s not recommend to be used with lots of debris in the water so clear to the eye.The button is at the top of the lid and a cycle takes 60 seconds to complete. The LARQ self cleaning water bottle also intelligently turns on every 2 hours to purify both the water you put inside as well as the bottle surface itself. The UV-C light eradicates biological contaminants by destroying their DNA.When using LARQ’s Adventure mode purification cycle, you can purify even the most questionable of water sources – Think traveling in Third World Countries, or adventuring for days at a time in the wilderness or even water from public toilets. If you’re unsure whether it purifies water well enough, think of it this way, the LARQ UV water bottle sterilization process is the equivalent of boiling water for 20 minutes straight! You can also lock the top button of the LARQ water bottle to avoid accidental continual cycles while the bottle is stored in a bag, for example. If you hold the top button for 5 seconds the bottle will be put into Travel mode, and the button will be locked. This is to prevent accidentally running down the battery as a result of putting pressure on the button and activating continual cycles. This will not impact the taste of the water. So tap once for Normal Mode (takes 60 seconds to complete)Tap twice for Adventure Mode (takes 3 minutes to complete)In Adventure Mode, the LARQ Bottle has a 3x increase in UV-C dosage. Normal mode delivers 1,200 uW-sec (or mJ) to the water, while Adventure Mode delivers around 3,000 uW-sec (or mJ) to the water. One charge lasts up to 1-2 months for Normal Mode, based on 3-4 cycles a day. Adventure mode, on the other hand, will last around 10-12 days. Low battery indicator lights will let you know when to recharge your LARQ water bottle. You need to use the included USB cable which connects to the lid, as seen above. While charging, the lid light will slowly pulse with a green light. It will change to a constant green light when fully charged. The LARQ bottle’s charge socket is waterproof and rated IPX7.Yes, it’s more expensive than standard water bottles, but those bottles don’t offer the convenience and benefit of being able to fill up from almost anywhere and know your water will be pure and 99.9999% bacteria free after one quick purifying cycle. It really is a smart way to drink water and ensure your bottle stays stink-free while on the go.

High quality product that delivers.
From the moment I first held the box in my hand, I could tell this is a quality product. The packaging alone is sleek and modern, with all of the information that you'll need about the bottle printed in a clean and clear design. Opening it up reveals the stylish LARQ bottle itself, with a white metal top half cut diagonally across the middle by the rubberised bottom. Aside from looking beautiful, it feels so comfortable to hold in one hand and is clearly made from high quality materials.I won't re-write all of the technical specs present in the product page above, but in short: there's a UV light in the lid which can supposedly clean 99.9999% of germs in your water. This is using the 'adventure mode' which is a purification process which lasts 3 minutes. There is no documentation that I can see for exactly how much the regular 1 minute cycle purifies the water, but It's recommended use is for "known sources" such as taps, so my guess is not a huge amount (perhaps 33.3333%, who knows?)My bottle had no battery life in it when it arrived, so I gave it a quick 10-minute charge just to test it out. Those ten minutes lasted me about 6 days of regular usage. A full charge takes about 2 hours and I haven't had to recharge it for several weeks now, so the battery life is as good as they imply.Obviously I have no real way of testing their claims about how effective the purification is, but after testing the bottle for this long and having seen that mostly everything else they've said about it have been true, I'm inclined to think they're not lying to us.There are a couple of small things I don't like, however:There is no cover for the USB port on the lid, meaning that the little black rectangle is always present and visible. Not only does this not look great, I also worry that something might get stuck inside and damage the plug.I know the size is great for portability, but I'd have preferred a slightly taller bottle that rounds the size up to 1L. 710ml just isn't quite enough for keeping in your backpack all day. On the bright side, you could theoretically refill it from any water source and have safe drinking water in just a couple of presses.Overall a high quality product that I'd recommend to any travellers or people with questionable tap water.

Looks great but could be improved
From the packaging to the bottle design this looks premium and its a premium price for a stainless steel water bottle. Unlike the magic of microwaves back when they first arrived on the scene you can tell its done the job with hot food, this water bottle works its magic but you have to rely on faith its actually purified the water as its something you cant see. The UV light doesn't activate when the lid is removed from the bottle. Quite often left over water does stagnate and start to get musty and I didn't notice this after a few days of use, I've yet to notice any musty smell from this bottle so it must be doing something. As for drinking clean river water this would rely on trust the bottle is killing the bacteria as no real way to tell unless you had samples tested. The design of the bottle is nice, and easy to hold and grip. I like the curved rounded edge to the bottle opening so no sharp edges as on some stainless steel bottles. Its also good that it enters a self clean routinely. My one criticism is the micro USB charge point, at the price this bottle is I would have expected a charging method as you get say on a toothbrush, it states the USB port has an IPX7 rating. This is not something which isnt found on other similar UV cleaning bottles so surprised its not on this bottle given its higher price. Its a lot of money for a water bottle and it doesn't remove anything else that could be in the water such as impurities, metals, chlorine, farm run off chemicals - so you still need to be extremely careful on any unknown water collection. If you do however find your water bottle starts to get musty after a days use from refilling but not cleaning it out then this will help prevent that.
