This author really breaks it down and I can honestly say that I have learned more from this book than being in the 1 1/2 years of class time in my college courses. Sometimes, in class, the instructor can seem rushed and going through the information too quickly or he is all over the place. This book is PERFECT to learn from. I have my CCENT 1 exam scheduled next week (December 6th) and I feel confident I will pass. I highly recommend this book for anyone who is looking to continue on to get their CCNA. This book has the updated information for BOTH tests in it. I will be pursing my CCNA next. GREAT BOOK, cannot say enough good about this! Glad I found it. Review: Like everyone else says - First, to start up it's a really huge book for me and you have to be willing to go thru it all to gain the knowledge. Like everyone else says, the book is easy to read and understand. Subnetting and Vlsm are explained quite simply but sometimes it bothers me with class B and A when they reach pass their classful boundary. The key to master it is more practice. Besides that, OSPF, VLANs, Security were all chapters that i really enjoyed. A piece of advice i can give is not to only know how to configure routing protocols but to also know how to troubleshoot them. Because i got a little lost when i was asked to troubleshoot OSPF during the test and it wasn't a really good feeling, i lost so much time on it while i still had 20 questions remaining and 19 min to finish them. You can already imagine my frustration at that point. However, i'm glad to say that i pass my CCENT last Friday, and it took me 4 month with 4 or 5 hour a day, in between my part-time job to read all 14 chapters, and by doing all labs and review questions. I also used videos and practice questions of Todd by subscribing to his website and i can totally assure you that they came really handy to me during the test. Some of the questions i had were similar and easy for me to grasp quickly. Overall, if you want to pass that test, this is the book to get, and if you can and don't mind spending a bit, subscribe to Todd website and go thru all practice questions and you'll be become victorious. Update, i forgot to mention that i passed my CCENT with a score of 907 but my first try on the CCNA was a failure, and i rescheduled immediately and passed it yesterday with a score of 894, thought i nailed it correctly but i ended with that score because of troubleshooting and ip service. Well, what i can say about the second part of the book is that everything you need to know about EIGRP, OSPF multi area, STP, and frame Relay are explained thoroughly. Make no mistake folks, it's a lot of information to take in and at times it frustrated me but i kept on, and i thank God that i got it. Besides that, others have mentioned some typos and mistakes in the book that i also came across but don't let that stop you from going thru all materials because the information given is highly relevant and the typos are negligible because you can actually find the right info about the errors on the internet if you dig deep enough. You know what i mean lol. One other thing, the IOS chapter lacked some explanation for me so it was a little hard to grasp the concept of the configuration register, i mean turning the bit 6 on for password recovery until i came across a cisco explanation of that section on the internet. Cisco explained you in detail how it works to put the hexadecimal number together yielding 0x2102 for the config-register default setting and 0x2142 for the password recovery. Briefly for that chapter look for the configuration register sheet and everything will be clearer than it is. As for the other chapters, i believe they are clear enough and convey what you need to Pass the CCNA. I will also advice you to do a lot of practice question on all chapters over and over again, so no question will throw you off on the exam because time is sensitive and you need to know your s*** so you can have more time to figure out the troubleshooting section. Like i said before, i used Todd practice questions and videos, i subscribed to it and it helps me like you have no idea. So Good luck for future candidate.

Great CCNA exam prep!
I just passed ICND-2 after passing ICND-1 last month. I used this book as my primary resource and it is fantastic. Easy to read and explains the concepts thoroughly. A big bonus with this book are the included Micro-Nuggets hosted by CBT Nuggets. During each chapter, there are 2 QR codes/links to a webpage that has a video that covers what you just read to really flesh out the reading material. I recommend anybody interested in pursuing the CCNA certification to give this book a try. I also got Todd Lammle's CCNA/CCENT IOS Commands Survival Guide as a supplement to quickly find and brush up on commands. Great combination. Note: I picked up the Kindle version of this title and there was some formatting issues related to the Kindle App for Mac, but those issues did not deter me.

I know Todd Lammle he is a good guy. I have went about half way through this book so far and its spot on. I also use other material as I like to watch videos as well but I definitely recommend having a written copy as well as its very important when studying. Todd has been doing this for a very long time and it shows in his books. Each of his books I think is better than the last as they are more careful and learn from past issues. You cannot go wrong in buying this book and in my opinion your also buying from one of the nicer and more professional guys out there. That I take the time to write a post and do so in detail says a lot. I would not say anything if I didn't believe what I was writing here. great book that is very well priced its a no brainer!

Help my pass my ICND 1
Todd's has a great way to explain the theory in a fun way. I didn't find myself tearing my hair out because of how dry the material can be at times. He adds in a little personal flavor that spices things up. I just passed my ICND 1 and got my Cisco Certified Entry Network technician status thanks to this book. Make sure to do all the Written Labs, Quiz Reviews, and Hands-on Labs. I used packet tracer with the labs and a mix of real equipment at my university when I was able to be on campus. The labs can be all done with Packet Tracer but some of the IPv6 stuff and random commands weren't working, like using the show commands with pipe. The book contains "Links" to Micro Nuggets where explain certain topics in depth, two per chapter. The Micro Nuggets were great to sit back and relax ans watch Jeremy talk about the topics. I ended up loving these videos so much I purchased the full video lessons and used them with the Book !

Derpin' labs!
I really enjoyed this book. There were quite a few errors along the way. It mostly fell apart when you started to apply the concepts in the labs and example labs. I understand it's very hard to accurately make labs. For a beginner this might frustrate them. It could mean hours of unnecessary troubleshooting. Good thing I knew what I was doing. Through all the faults, I really liked the easy to follow and understand material. The bonus cbtnugget videos were priceless. I absolutely loved Jeremy Cioara. His insightful and humorous lectures really drove the concepts home. I can't believe I read the whole book in three months. I will probably read it again. It's really hard to memorize all the tiny details.

So just passed my ICND2 a month after my ICND1 using this book as my primary study method for both. Although the exam is changing to a new version now so the edition I got (100-101 - 200-101) won't cover all the new objectives on the new version of the exam. The book is very good and really covers all you need for the exam. It also has a humorous style which makes the studying more enjoyable. The labs and review questions at the end of each chapter really help check your understanding. I found some topics needed some more explanation but this is easily compensated for by typing "ccna + topic name" into google as there are quite a few resources online which can give you an alternative explanation of a topic. Overall would definitely recommend this author. I used Cisco's packet tracer for practicing even though I also have physical equipment but I don't think real equipment is necessary for this CCNA - although no idea if that applies to the new exam version.

Very detailed and on point. The good thing about this book is that it's not only for Network professionals, anyone can use it who needs an introduction and also in-depth knowledge about networks and telecommunications. I am a software developer and this book helped alot learning about TCP/IP and OSI Model which is essential for client-server communications. Highly recommended.
