Review: This book is so helpful - had everything I needed to know! Only criticism and why it gets 4 stars is that the formatting is terrible. They need to spend the money to get this properly edited/structured. The chapters don't have a chapter name at the top so it's hard to figure out where you're at when trying to flip through and find something. Review: It is difficult for me to believe that the four and five star reviews for this item are genuine. I own other Japan-related guidebooks so was looking forward to adding this one to my collection based on the publisher's description. Instead, the book that I received offered less information than you'd get by simply printing out a few Tokyo-related websites. The rudimentary black & white maps have no useful navigation details such as streets or landmarks, and the hotel recommendations are simply lists of hotel names by neighborhood, with no descriptions or maps. Furthermore, place names and addresses are not written in kanji or kana, so few Japanese taxi drivers or non-English speakers would be able to help you find your way. On top of everything else, the formatting is awkward, the book is full of typos, and the binding feels like it is unlikely to withstand more than one day of use. I've already asked desertcart to refund my money -- this is a complete waste.

Going to Tokyo and was hoping this would be a better resource than what it is - No maps - no web sites really listed to help you plan for your stay. However, there are not many travel guides for Japan and something is better than nothing.

You're kidding. Surely there are blogs better than this book. The maps pale in comparison to other guides. B&W photos make things that might be glorious (cherry blossoms and sushi) look anything but attractive. There seems to be a genuine intention to be helpful in the content (I'll take the guide to Tokyo and give it a spin) but the writing is poor: Prepare to be "amazed" by the sheer number of people, lights and businesses. Start bright and early at Tsukiji Fish Market. Breakfast? Divine seafood. Many exclamations at the end of each preview make one feel...not exciting ("Rent a whole 6-person gondola for some alone time!" or "Sit at the bar, and get ready to unbuckle your belt!"). Overall this seems thrown together and as cheap as the price. Hotel recommendations come with no description and it's questionable that the author(s) stayed at them all. A disappointment. I wish I had held this in my hand and perused it before ordering.

I'm an avid traveler and love a good pocket guide so when I saw "pocket guide" in the title I was excited to get this book for my upcoming trip to Tokyo. Unfortunately it arrived and it is not pocket sized...but that's just the first thing that's terrible about this book. It is written like a 5th grade book report on Tokyo. In large font with no details and I immediately knew this was useless. Have to return it now and find a book that actually has useful maps and details.
