This is an outstanding family legacy game (legacy, meaning that as you play it there are permanent changes to the game between sessions). It starts out as an exceptionally simple game, but each chapter adds additional complexities and changes to the narrative. It would be good as either a couples game or as a 3-4p family/casual game (admittedly it's more exciting seeing more player boards being filled in different ways, but it's still solid with 2p). There is a catch-up mechanism which may irk some more serious players. But it is what it is - it's a family game and it performs that function fantastically. Dr. Knizia is one of my favourite designers, so yep, I'm biased.

This legacy game has 18 rounds, but each one changes things slightly based on your previous performance. Quite fun (and frustrating!) to try and plan out your city and make adjustments as the cards are turned.

As a family we have been playing this game for about a year. Easiest way to describe it is like Tetris but a board game. The playing board itself has 2 sides. One is what they call Eternal mode, the rules of the game stay the same and its played like a normal board game. The other side is a legacy game where the rules evolve with new pieces and objectives added over 24 different episodes. For the legacy game it really requires the same people to play as the points for winning each episode eventually add up to the final winner at the end. The game also is set up so that the winners of each episode get small handicaps that make it harder the win the next episode so should keep the scoring between all the players close right to the end. Some great twists and turns and changes to the rules. Definitely recommend for a family to play or a group of players who game regularly together.

Best board game ever! Has kept me and my 10 year old son engrossed for days. It is a long game as lots of different “chapters” which are broken down into 3 “episodes” each. We played it in stages - just did a few episodes or chapters in one sitting. It looks great - very high quality. And more than anything - it is so well thought out - it is clever and creative and keeps you interested. Also it is actually a game that truly can be played by just 2 players - many say they can be but are just no fun without more players. My City is brilliant even for just 2 players - nothing is lost at all by not having more play. But I can also see that it would be brilliant with more playing too. I am not a big fan of most board games to be honest - but my son is - and most of his favourites like Risk (groan) or Pandemic (triple groan) I find horrendously boring! But My City actually engaged me all the way through. Love it. The perfect board game. Should win tonnes of awards and every family or couple who enjoy board games should buy it! We both can’t wait to go back to the beginning and play it again. The clever concept means no two games would ever be the same. Just brilliant.
