Review: The drawings by Botticelli make this edition special. Translation by Mandelbaum is good, blank verse. The book binding is strong. All in all excellent and a great value. Review: É um ótimo livro, só estou dando quatro estrelas porque o trabalho da transportadora não foi o melhor, aceitável, porém deixa a desejar.

As I just received this book (Amazon doesn't seem to understand that reading takes time) I haven't read it yet, but the book itself is outstanding.

ISBN: 0679433139 "The hottest places in hell are reserved for those who, in times of great moral crisis, maintain their neutrality." The hell is here. The heaven is here. The ribben is tangled in between. Thanks to Cloudtail India. Thank to amazon.in

This is a handsome volume and a wonderfully fluent translation. Mandelbaum strikes a good balance between fidelity and readability; one way he does this is by not chasing after rhymes by choosing sense. The effect is that the reader can read several cantos at once without too much strain—and, what’s more can concentrate on what’s said, rather than how it’s communicated. The concise and accurate arguments at the head of each canto orient the reader helpfully. The main drawback of this edition is the terseness of the notes; the philosophy, theology, and allusive richness of the text requires a bit more elucidation than Mandelbaum provides. An unexpected reward is the reproduction of most of Botticelli’s illustrations for the Comedia. On the whole, this edition is well worth the money.
