The Times Big Book of Quick Crosswords 1: 300 World-Famous Crossword Puzzles

🖋️ This is a great little book of crosswords that can be challenging at times, depending on your ability, but the book is addictive. As I write this on New Year's Day, my family is busy doing yet another puzzle. I quite like the challenge, and even if you don’t complete them because there is an unfamiliar word, the solutions are in the back, and it is educational. We have certainly had our mental blanks filled in with the names of obscure birds and insects. I also like when there is a themed crossword where many of the words have the same endings or it’s the turn of types of staged music. 📖 If you get frustrated by not being able to finish a crossword because there is one word that eludes you, particularly when the clue is somewhat oblique, then this collection might not be for you. Most of the clues lead to familiar words or can be worked out, and missing one of those is the most frustrating. On a personal note, I found that I became better at the crosswords as I went along, so practice makes perfect. Once this one is finished, I will certainly be tempted to get another. ✔️

Good size and price

Test yourself on this because it’s from a Brit! You’ll learn a lot and on almost every puzzle get a chance to brush up on Shakespeare in at least one clue. The only issue I have is that the numbers in the puzzle are so small! A large print edition would be preferable. And if you’re doing this with a pencil and erase a lot thicker paper would prevent your entries from showing through on the puzzle on the next page. Still a fun way to exercise the mind, especially when confronted with a British take. You’ll learn new things you’d never expect! By the way this is also more fun doing with two or three.
