Outstanding Product, BLOWN AWAY
Simply the BEST projection screen possible, razor sharp flatness allowing 3D on my Epson 5030UB to be BETTER than IMAX clarity!Very simple installation (attach brackets to wall/ceiling, hook screen in and center, adjust top black drop, pair with 12V trigger transmitter, hook transmitter to projector) DONE!!!One installation tip to keep in mind, make 100% sure it is perfectly level to distribute the weight to fully ensure maximum flatness and don't use the side tensionig knobs too muchMotor is a tad noisy but after seeing how flat with no waves/wrinkles this product is on a motorized screen lets you know this is serious entertainment business!Hands down, highly recommended by far, now waiting for The Force Awakens on Blu-ray 3D!Just wondering what a 4K projector will look like on it now.....

Not quite a fun house mirror
My first impression is one of disappointment. I expected a flat screen and a high quality product but that is not what I have. I see all but one review...and there are a lot of them...are from reviewers who got their screens for free. Perhaps that should have been a tip-off? I don't know.First off, there are little telltale signs this product may be a repack. There's evidence of a sticker having been removed. The screen was well packed and there was no damage to the shipping carton, yet there was a little piece of shiny, black broken plastic in the carton. And the screen...a series of large horizontal wrinkles just off center and large wrinkles at both lower corners. Tension adjustments only make these wrinkles worse.Over the New Year holiday I'll let the screen hang to see if the wrinkles let themselves out. Frankly, I think that's asking a bit much but I don't want to mess with this now.If I hadn't purchased this online it'd be going right back to the store. So I'll give it a chance to flatten out and follow up this review in a few days.In the meantime, if I were you, I'd look at all those freebie reviews with a careful eye and hold off on buying this screen until I report back. There's no information in the instructions for contacting Apex, so I'll try online.

Good value screen / I had packaging issues
The Visual Apex screens tend to be in the good value / decent quality category. The first metric for screen quality is gain, a measure of reflectivity based on a reference screen. This screen has gain of 1.1, which is good and puts it in the range of longtime screen makers like Da-Lite. For higher gains of 1.3 or 1.4, you typically have to pay significantly more. Beyond screen quality, I was impressed with the construction of the unit. The housing is made of very solid aluminum extrusions. The small electronics board (not normally accessible) shows a robust, simple design. I was less impressed with the remote controls which had a budget feel to them, a bit like the less substantial remote controls that come with garage door openers.Opening and closing the screen were straight forward, and the different modes worked well right out of the box. I ran the screen enough times in my testing (too much really) that I tripped the thermal sensor in the motor. I made a quick call to Visual Apex in Washington state, to make sure that the unit did, in fact, have a thermal sensor. An engineer from Visual Apex called me back within 5 minutes. Bravo! The unit took a few minutes to cool down and reset.Where I had to take a star away from the device was on packaging. The unit arrives with pretty good protection and some heavy duty cardboard. Mine still suffered a damaged end cap, and I'm sure that if I complained, Visual Apex would send a new one. My main issues were twofold. First, three pieces of cardboard were wedged between the bottom screen bar and the main unit. They were pushed in far enough that they impinged on the screen. When I first lowered the screen, the distortion was significant. As I used the screen more and more, however, the warbles began to smooth out (and now you know why I opened and closed the unit so many times...). So that problem is going away, but it is one that need not be in the first place. The second shortcoming was the almost jerry-rigged shipping brackets that kept the lower screen bar immobilized. The brackets did not match the ones in the directions, and while they worked, one left a small amount of marring on the aluminum. I think buyers putting this much effort into their video setups are going to expect (or at least hope) that everything is just right. This is a good screen that, in my case, needed a bit more effort in the packaging department to insure that it arrived in perfect condition. Your mileage will vary. And I really wouldn't let my review keep you from choosing this product, especially since Visual Apex's customer support was so good. I have confidence they would help with any problems you might encounter.

CRAP CUSTOMER SERVICE
I have updated to 1 star, I used it 3 times and by projector broke, we moved recently and got another, I put up this screen and when the screen was coming down it made a weird noise, blew out the house circuit and it is now dead. So we got to use this 3 times.I emailed on a Thursday, no response. I called on a Tuesday and left a message, no response. I finally called someone and she informed me that there was no warranty and that there wasn't anything she could do. I look on their webpage and it shows that they have a 3 yr warranty so I swiftly called them back again and she said since I didn't purchase this, that I have no warranty. BS. I informed her every items I have had issues with on the Vine have been backed up by a warranty. I would be happy with a replacement, but to just be lied to and told I'm SOL is ridiculous. After arguing with her, I had to send in my vine order. I'm still waiting, hopefully I won't be waiting as long as my emails and messages.
