A Very Good Quality Leather Sheath!
As a master Craftsman, I expect quality in everything, and much to my surprise after being disappointed so many times with the poor quality leather sheaths currently on the market, and considering its minimal cost, this leather sheath actually exceeded my expectations! It actually has a leather welt, not that foam-like material that is all to often used in the industry these days as a cost cutting material. The sheath is made of thick, pliable top grain leather that appears to have been treated with some kind of leather conditioner. The stitching is clean and complete. A bit of the black dye does come off on my fingers, but after wiping it down thoroughly, rubbing in some leather conditioner containing mink oil, beeswax and lanolin, and in just about a week of being left out to air dry, the dye dries out, as well. I like that the straps allow the sheath to be fastened to a belt for horizontal Scout Carry and if you loosen up the straps, it will hang off a belt like a Viking Seax. The wide, one piece vertical carry belt loop is good and strong. The pouch is riveted on from inside and all the snaps are of good quality. It's obviously built to be used! I've put a sharpening stone in the pouch. I would definitely recommend this leather knife sheath to anyone looking for a practical sheath. It will definitely protect the blade, the user from the blade and look good doing it! I've replaced the original sheath that came with my Crocodile Dundee knife with this one. The blade of my knife measures 10-1/4" long x 2" wide x 3/16" thick and it fits perfectly in the sheath. Because I'm critical about things, I added two chrome Chicago screws to the belt loop to add even more strength and durability. I also added two small upholstery nails through the opening of the throat through the welts and peened them nicely on the back side as additional reinforcement. I punched a hole in the bottom of the sheath for an 1/8" thick x 4' long, black rawhide leather boot lace to give me the option of a leg tie. Plus, leather lace is also great to have as emergency cordage. I've placed both the knife and new sheath on one of my baseless Handcrafted Whitetail Deer Antler Knife Display Stands.

well worth the price
Very well made, heavy duty super quality leather, variety of knives can fit this sheath.

Better to have it and not need it, than to need it and not have it!
The fit is ok, for a blade 9.5 to 10.". You can probably get another half inch in there. The quality is ok, it's not extremely heavy duty, but will get you by. I was a wilderness survival instructor, and some times you need an extra sheath. I will be trialing this sheath in the bush here shortly. I figured it will handle any basic camping or hunting trips. Great color, and nice style. You can carry it on your hip or rear carry. YES , I said it. Have any of you Geniuses figured out that the so called unnecessary straps allow you to rear carry the knife? I read that someone took the straps off. I guess it's all a matter of personal choice. Me, I think it's better to have it and not need it, rather than need it and not have it. This way I can carry a side arm and other essentials on my belt.I trimmed down the straps, and purchased a sharpening stone to fit the pocket. It looks like I am ready to go.RMC

This was worth every penny and more.
Wow.... I can't be happier. This fits my bowie like it always belonged to it. I took off the outside straps because they seemed alot more decorative then anything. And I am fully shocked on how well made this is for being less then $30. I wish it came in brown instead of just black but I'll be fine regardless. Fully robust and way sturdier then I could have imagined. Very very pleased.(My bowie is 15" long, blade being 10" from guard to tip, and at it's widest was 1.75". Fits so Good!)

Positive reviews on this sheath....they must have received one a lot better than the one I did.
This sheath seems like it's ornamental only, it's so poorly made. It won't hold up if you actually plan on using it instead of just using it for looking at, like on a knife display on a shelf or something. I just received it in the mail yesterday afternoon, and the stitching is coming undone after barely handling it. Speaking of handling it, every time I pick it up I get dye all over my hands. Lol Don't like the side straps? No problem, just give a good solid tug and they pull right off. And having other leather sheaths for many of the other knives that I own, I'd have to say the quality of the leather used is making this sheath is questionable in comparison. I was looking for a decent leather sheath for a nice old Bowie knife. Guess I'll have to keep looking. This ain't it.

the right fit
The sheath was the perfect fit for my knife, a 9in blade and the handle of 4 in.
