I think it should be mentioned that Cambodia is a very poor country that rapes tourists for their money
I think this guide book should be a little more honest about the country of Cambodia. It is a third world country that charges first world prices. Everything is in US dollars. While the state of the country is not DK's fault, I think it should be mentioned that Cambodia is a very poor country that rapes tourists for their money. You are better off going to Thailand where they charge the same whether your skin is white or brown or black or purple.

Beautiful photos and line drawings of architectural sites
This, along with a Lonely Planet book, were our go-to's when traveling in SE Asia on our own. For the most part, information was current and reliable, with information on a broad range of tourist-related matters....everything from shopping to history to art to religion. Beautiful photos and line drawings of architectural sites, in particular.

Good expectation!
Good! i have just had a look inside. Only next to my trip to Laos and Cambodja - which will take place next December - I will be able to rate correctly.

The best travel guide on Cambodia and Laos that you can find on the market
Very practical travel guide: you get very quickly a good overview of places of cultural or practical interest. The way the countries are presented is especially good: regional maps with places of interest refered by numbers that you find easily in the following text. The texts themselves are neither too long, nor too short. Also nice pictures, which may help you to decide whether you should visit a place or not.

Must have for your trip.
Always like DK Eyewitness books. Love the detailed maps and explanations of individual locations/sites. Great pictures. I have found them accurate and complete. Used this one to plan my free time on a tour. Will use it too explain my photos. I would not plan a trip without one.

Too heavy to carry when backpacking
I'm mixed on my star rating here. I really like DK Eyewitness Travel books, but was backpacking though SE Asia and these books were just way to heavy to carry. Had to return them without using them....

Good book, but I wish it was a separate book on each country and went into more in-depth detail. It helped with our trip to Cambodia but was not essential.

Wonderfully immersive
I am a part-nomad who spends several months traveling each year and I really recommend this guidebook. I agree this may not be to most practical to bring with you on a trip: it weights a lot for its size, and compared to "classic" guidebooks such as Lonely Planet or Rough guides has way less down-to-earth practical information. However, I think this is a different kind of guidebook and it does its job very well: the illustrations and photos are just beautiful, and the background information given in words+illustrations/photos (for example: landscape and wildlife, religions of Cambodia and Laos, architectural styles, etc) is very detailed and informative. I find that this allows me to learn more than longer texts with not illustrations. The biggest cities have 3D illustrations that make you feel like you're there, and in general you really feel like exploring the country while reading the book, and it teaches you a lot. In case you decide to take it with you there still is enough practical information to get by; easy to supplement with the Internet and by asking around while you're traveling.Or, if you prefer to carry a lighter book or no book at all, but you still want to do some background reading before or (why not) after your trip, this one is just wonderful.

Covers all aspects of the two countries
I found information which seems unavailable elsewhere eg. the chapter upon Cambodian wildlife and where to find it as opposed to alternative guides which focus on Angor Wat. I am very pleased with this guide book which will assist me in choosing and booking a holiday to suit my family.

DK's guides are always great value and this was a constant companion on holiday
DK's guides are always great value and this was a constant companion on holiday. Whilst I'd have preferred a guide devoted solely to Cambodia (but understand this would result probably in a thin Laos guide) it's a minor matter. Buy it in good time before you go!

Quality Travel Guide
I love this series of books & buy one for every country we visit. More of a coffee table book than a travel guide to actually plan your stay if you are backpacking, however excellent pictures and plenty of information on beautiful glossy paper.

It lists some great restaurants, just make sure you check their addresses ...
I'm a big fan of DK travel guides, and this one contained everything we needed to know about Cambodia. It lists some great restaurants, just make sure you check their addresses online instead of using the guide's ones as it sometimes is incorrect/ you can't find the place.
