For over 150 years, the story of the Civil War has been a source of contention, confusion, and even contempt in American life. Even today, the American public cannot agree on the causes of the Civil War, never mind its lessons or legacy.More Americans died in the Civil War than in WWI, WWII, and Vietnam combined. The war not only put Americans against Americans but family against family, neighbor against neighbor, friend against friend. The conflict between the Union and the Confederacy still runs deep in some parts of the United States. Indeed, the fundamental questions of the Civil War—questions about racial (in)equality, the rights of citizenship, and the role of government—remain hot debates today. In many ways, the war that claimed over 600,000 American lives a century and a half ago is still the biggest battle being waged on American soil.In The Civil War: A Captivating Guide to the American Civil War and Its Impact on the History of the United States, you will discover topics such asAn Uneasy Nation The Foundation Cracks The First Shot Welcome to War Bloody Days Proclaiming Freedom The War Looks Grim Turning the Tide The Final Fight The Final Fight Reunited Post-War America And much, much more!Erik the Red: A Captivating Guide to the Viking Who Founded the First Norse Settlement in GreenlandLeif Erikson: A Captivating Guide to the Viking Explorer Who Beat Columbus to America and Established a Norse Settlement at VinlandWars of Scottish Independence: A Captivating Guide to the Battles Between the Kingdom of Scotland and the Kingdom of England, Including the Impact Made by King Robert the BruceWilliam Wallace: A Captivating Guide to a Freedom Fighter and Martyr Who Impacted Scottish History and Scotland’s Independence from EnglandMarie Antoinette: A Captivating Guide to the Last Queen of France Before and During the French Revolution, Including Her Relationship with King Louis XVIThe Six Wives of Henry VIII: A Captivating Guide to Catherine of Aragon, Anne Boleyn, Jane Seymour, Anne of Cleves, Catherine Howard, and Katherine ParrThe Tudors: A Captivating Guide to the History of England from Henry VII to Elizabeth IHaitian Revolution: A Captivating Guide to the Abolition of SlaveryBlack History: A Captivating Guide to African American History and the Haitian RevolutionAfrican American History: A Captivating Guide to the People and Events that Shaped the History of the United StatesNative American History: A Captivating Guide to the Long History of Native Americans Including Stories of the Wounded Knee Massacre, Native American Tribes, Hiawatha and MoreTrail of Tears: A Captivating Guide to the Forced Removals of Cherokee, Muscogee Creek, Seminole, Chickasaw, and Choctaw NationsThe Culper Ring: A Captivating Guide to George Washington's Spy Ring and its Impact on the American RevolutionThomas Jefferson: A Captivating Guide to an American Founding Father Who Was the Principal Author of the Declaration of Independence and the Third President of the United StatesJames Madison: A Captivating Guide to an American Founding Father Who Served as the Fourth President of the United States of AmericaJames Monroe: A Captivating Guide to the Founding Father Who Served as the Fifth President of the United StatesAlexander Hamilton: A Captivating Guide to one of the Founding Fathers of the United States of AmericaAaron Burr: A Captivaing Guide to the Life of Aaron Burr and the Most Famous Duel in American HistoryThe Duel: A Captivating Guide to the Lives of Alexander Hamilton and Aaron BurrAndrew Jackson: A Captivating Guide to the Man Who Served as the Seventh President of the United StatesMartin Van Buren: A Captivating Guide to the Man Who Served as the Eighth President of the United StatesAmerican Presidents: A Captivating Guide to Andrew Jackson and Martin Van Buren – The Two Founders of the Democratic PartyThe Civil War: A Captivating Guide to the American Civil War and Its Impact on the History of the United StatesThe Roaring Twenties: A Captivating Guide to a Period of Dramatic Social and Political Change, a False Sense of Prosperity, and Its Impact on the Great DepressionHistory of Chicago: A Captivating Guide to the People and Events that Shaped the Windy City’s HistoryP.T. The Civil War: A Captivating Guide
This was a general guide which focused on The North & Eastern States in a generalized matter. What was shared was well documented. I would suggest it for an initial overview of The Civil War.

A Short History of The American Civil War!!!
This is a concise history of the US Civil War designed for reading in a couple of hours. It includes an extensive bibliography which is an excellent resource for additional reading and research. The authors design was to provide an overarching view of the entirety of the war and to touch on the most important people, events, battles, and resulting impacts on Anerica. The US Civil War is one of the most important events in all of American history! More Americans died in the Civil War than in WWI, WWII, and Vietnam combined. The war not only put Americans against Americans but family against family, neighbor against neighbor, friend against friend. The conflict between the Union and the Confederacy still runs deep in some parts of the United States. Indeed, the fundamental questions of the Civil War—questions about racial equality, the rights of citizenship, and the role of government—remain hot debates today.Because understanding the causes, course, and repercussions of the Civil War, readers can better grasp the underlying issues in the current American political climate, and realize the long-lasting scars on the United States population. Accordingly, a short history of the Civil War is very useful to have availible for the casul reader. However, it is quite difficult to write such a book and maintain a acceptable level of accuracy. I noted a number of ommisions, minor inaccuracies, and editing errors that detracted frim the narrative. Because of the importance of the subject manner I recommend this book to readers with a casual interest in the Civil War.

Watershed Moment in American History
This book offers a good general overview of a pivotal event in American History. What I call a watershed moment in our history where nothing remained the same afterwards. The book does a good job of covering events leading up to war.One thing I learned on the General was interesting . The Mexican War proved to be a training ground for officers in the Civil War. William T Sherman did not participate directly in the war, but rather was on administrative duty in California. This led to further research on my part in finding out more on Sherman. This is what I love about is the naturally to learn information & to do further research.Just a few factual errors which I’m sure were oversights. General Lee surrendered on May 9 & not on thr10th & stacking oo arm at the official surrender wasvApril 12, 1865. During the Atlanta Campaign the confederate army was already evacuating Atlanta to meet Sherman’s moving to cut supply line. So ,the were forced out & not in the city. President Johnson’s Amensty in May really was unclear but on Christmas Dsy 1868, Johnson issued Proclamation 1 79 which pardoned all for the offense of treason sgainst the Union.Very thoroughly bibliography with a lot of new Civil War historians.Another great book by Captivating History.
