On Becoming Fearless...in Love, Work, and Life Paperback – April 9, 2007

A great analysis of how women function and how they allow themselves to be paralyzed by fear as a result of a history of submission and repression. I myself learned in this book that so many well-known and successful women have encountered the same prejudices and restrictions and never-ending existential doubts and fears than I. It is comforting to see that they overcame their fear or at least have learned to canalise it and even turn it into an asset. A good book if you're looking for support in your daily battles at work or even at home with men but equally women. The latter often being afraid of women who try to make things change.

The Book was a bestseller, obviously...however, my purchase of the book was for my 'God Daughter' who has recentlygraduated from College. Her career aspirations point toward the world of Literature. My naïve thinking was obtaininga signature and a few words of encouragement placed on the Author's work. The Author's book/publishing groupsuggested that I send a letter seeking permission and available time. Apparently, the Author's new added successand riches have stunted the need to serve the Customer/Reader. I bought this book on a whim and was more than surprised by how relevant and inspiring it was. The tone is very casual which belies the wisdom Arianna Huffington shares. I'm one who writes in my books, highlighting passages or quotes I find extremely insightful or helpful (for a quick re-read later). I had pen in hand for most of the book. You will relate to some chapters more than others but overall, a great read.That said, I agree with some other reviewers about the chapter on God and Death. I found myself writing, "Disagree!" in the margin at one point. The tone in this chapter is offensive to anyone who does not subscribe to organized religion (not necessarily a belief in God, which she presumes to be the same thing). Like Arianna, I was raised Greek Orthodox and forgive her views as a function of her generation and upbringing. (Anything "Orthodox" can tend toward the extreme). I decided to overlook the negatives found in this chapter and relish what I could use in my daily life found in the rest of the book.

Loved the book and bought it for my daughters and neices. Only one issue - the god chapter. Arianna makes many assumptions about something she obviously knows nothing about: atheism. In this chapter all reason and logic dissipate and she makes statements as though they are fact rather than her own uneducated judgements. Some thoughts to consider while reading this out-of-place chapter:An atheist's life is not emotionally unbearable, filled with fear or a barren terrain. It is in fact a life that is appreciated and wondrous considering that we only get to live it once.Life has meaning without god. With no god to concern myself with - I find I have much more time for meaningful endeavors and enjoyment without the pall of fear always hanging about. I don't need a supernatural being to give my life meaning - it has meaning in and of itself.She obviously hasn't read or spoken in depth to anyone who is an atheist. She has one agenda and bias towards faith, thus lending no credibility to her assumption that those without faith are unhappy - and that does nothing to change that faith is nothing more than wishful thinking. She goes from being a woman of intellectual integrity to a little girl who believes in wishful thinking and wants the rest of us to do so.People of faith have a need to falsely state how unhappy, misguided and empty atheists must be. They seem to want us to join in the misery of fear and submission that faith seems to promote.It is fearless to face the possibility that there is no god. It is fearless to live life as it is, to rely on yourself, living in reality with no seeking out of some mythical presence. It is fearless to know that you get one life and to make the most of it for yourself and others with no promise of an afterlife.I wouldn't even bother reading this chapter - it only serves to undo what she is setting out to do by writing the book. The book would have gotten fives stars if not for that one chapter.

I bought a whole bunch of these for all my girlfriends and the girls I work with. Its a great book that really will help enlighten us on the whys of some of the self destructive behavior we have and the how-tos in regards to discontinuing it. Arianna is an inspiration and this book has a been a must read for me on multiple occasions as its easy to slip back into previous behavior for so many reasons. Read it, buy it for all the women in your life... you will be glad you did.

So many girls and young women today are still seeking outside approval for their lives, loves, and actions. Learning to love yourself and trust your feelings and intuition should be a mandatory class from elementary school through the high school years. It is what holds women back from achieving what they believe in, whether it's raising cattle on a ranch or bidding for the top corner office.Good read, not to wordy or long. Part of my daughters summer reading program.

I believe that women sometimes doubt themselves and the decisions they make throughout their lives. This book really expresses how we can all learn from our experiences in a positive way, by being fearless. This was a very good read, fast to get through and great for any young or mature woman you want to motivate or inspire spiritually, mentally, financially, etc!

Reading on Becoming Fearless after reading Lean in, I found myself comparing the two very often, and let me just say, I vote for the latter. On becoming fearless is a good book though, and I like the way Arianna incorporated other people's stories in the book. good read. :-)
