Taste is Horrible! But a Solid Product in Comparison to Other Magnesium Supplements
I agree with everyone who complains how horrible this tastes. I disagree with the person who says it is "medicine" and not supposed to taste like candy. First, it is not medicine, it is a supplement. Second, I don't think anyone expected this to taste like candy. I have had many supplements that don't taste horrible. Anyway, to be able to drink this without gagging, I take ice water, add a little lemon juice and a good teaspoon of maple syrup, stir it up and then add a scoop of this powder and stir it up again. It is more palatable. I did try it in a cup of hot tea with agave, and it only made my tea taste disgusting. When I am done with this container, I am going to purchase one of the flavored ones. Yes, it is more expensive because they add flavoring, but I'm spending money on trying to mix it with something else anyway. As far as whether the magnesium helps me -- I started using this because of getting muscle cramps in my legs every night. It seems since I've started taking it, the leg cramps have almost stopped. I purchased the powder because the tablets are too big. Sometimes I can swallow the tablet, but sometimes I start gagging and then cannot swallow them at all. Also, don't be fooled by other brands that state their magnesium is 200 mg or 400 mg. You have to look at how many mg "as magnesium glycinate." This brand is clear on its label what you are actually getting!

Works great
This works well and you feel the difference almost immediately. Goes well in most drinks. It's a bit sticky but once in your drink it's fine. Does have a slight aftertaste but it's not bad. Love how it helps my pain go away and muscles relax.

Fixing the taste
The taste really is terrible but I combined this with cherry wave emergen-c and it’s much more drinkable

Do not recommend this supplement
Horrible taste. I can barely tolerate it when I add some lemon juice and Stevia. It also clumps and is hard to dissolve in water or orange juice. This powder has the tendency to make a big mess whenever I open the container. I do not recommend this at all.

Taste: ideas to make it palatable
I researched every type of magnesium available currently on Amazon. This was the purest one with no added magnesium stearate and other fillers, or magnesium citrate which can affect mineral balance in the body according to the Magnesium Advocacy Group (gotmag.org). Of course I proceeded to read the reviews and pretty much every review mentioned the bad taste of this product. Instead of being deterred I became curious to see how this product can really be that bad. Before this we were taking the Kal Activgels which I opened for the kids (as prescribed by their doctor) and which tasted so good that the kids enjoyed taking it. When I opened the can I first took a pinch and put it straight in my mouth to see exactly what the fuss is all about. The first thing I noticed was it tasted very alkaline. After a second, as I analyzed what the taste was, I realized it tasted a lot like baking soda, not rotting fish guts or anything else related to fish like some had mentioned. So if you are unsure whether to buy this or not, taste a little baking soda and see if you can tolerate the taste. I don’t think it’s bad at all. No, it’s not full of sugars and flavors. It’s a mineral. It’s medicine. It’s not supposed to taste like candy. Thank you Doctor’s Best for continuing to make a clean product despite the complaints. Please keep it pure. Next came the kids challenge. If so many adults report not being able to tolerate it, surely a 4 and 7 year old won’t touch it, right? I mixed their prescribed amount into a glass of Amazing Grass Green Superfood berry flavor mixed with water. It’s not sweet, just has a slight berry flavor. They both drank it down without a fight. I asked the 7 year old what he thought. He said “eh, not too bad I guess, it kind of tastes like seaweed, maybe seafood, like mussels, it’s not too good but it’s ok”. I also tasted it in that combination and my first thought was a slight seaweed flavor. It bad at all. Now I’m curious how my body handles it. My old glycinate was not being absorbed properly. I’m hoping this one will.

Not as much in the containers as stated. Updated January, 2020
I have been taking Doctor's Best High Absorption Magnesium for a year now. It is probably the best on the market, dispite the taste. I add one scoop to about an inch of water every night and drink it down. I use the scoop that is included and make sure that I do not over fill the scoop. I can live with the taste, however the labeling is incorrect when it says that you get 100 scoops. You do not. I always write the date I open and start using the product on the top of the lid. The most I have ever gotten was for 85 scoops, the least I have gotten as been 70 scoops. On the average it has been about 75 to 78 scoops. That means that it was short 25 to 30 scoops per container. That to me is a big deal as it is not cheap to purchase. I have not seen anyone else complain about this, but it needs to be corrected either by making sure that there are 100 scoops or change the labeling and reduce the price. I really like the product and want to continue using it, as I don't take pills very well. My lab reports show that my mag. Is right where it should be since I started taking it, so it works. I just don't like feeling like I have been taken advantage of. Update review: 12-22-2017 Just wanted to say they have changed the size of the scoops (made them smaller) and put a taller lid on the containers, so that on my current order I will get the 100 scoops as indicated on the container. The taste has not changed, but then I if you wash it down quickly it's not too bad. Lol Updated again January, 2020. Here we are with the same old problem as before. The last container I received I was able to get only 71 servings instead of 100. If I am only going to get 71 servings then that is all I want to pay for. I don't understand why this is still an ongoing issue. I date each container lid when I open it, then date it when I've taken the last serving. It is not hard to go to the calendar and count the days. I can deal with the taste, but I don't like being ripped off. The previous container was almost right on the number, so I don't understand the inconsistency of the product. Is there any one else out there having this issue? Come on Dr`s Best do it right. I just down graded to 3 stars. If I was getting all of the product I should then it would be a 5 star rating.

Simply the best!
This magnesium powder is one of the best you can buy. It's much more absorbable than tablet or capsule forms I've taken in the past. Of course, there are countless reviews here explaining the science behind the absorbability, but I'm just going to address the taste issue which has popped up in many reviews. This isn't candy, and I personally never approach vitamins or supplements with the intention of enjoying a delicious candy snack (an unfortunate expectation it seems, due to all the sugar-laden vitamin gummies now on the market). I'm looking for high quality products at affordable prices that will fortify my body. This magnesium ticks all those boxes! There's a really simple solution to the taste issue... mix it into something you enjoy the taste of! I haven't found that this is as incredibly unpleasant as others seem to think. Some reviews said it's gag inducing and tastes and smells like fish? Of course, we're all different, but I've never once encountered that myself. Regardless, I just mix this with my protein shake, and I don't even notice it - except for the positive effects on my body. I've noticed little to no smell when opening the container, and my shake tastes the same as it does without the magnesium added. This isn't a gigantic scoopful that you have to ingest to begin with. It's a rather small amount, but it has big beneficial effects. Magnesium is so important to multiple processes in the human body, and most of us are deficient. Do yourself a favor and try a canister of one of the best on the market! I'll continue to purchase this with hopes that the company doesn't change the formula due to all these taste complaints.

I love this stuff
This in my opinion is by far one of the best magnesium on the market and it is fast acting. I and my family have been taking this for some years now to supplement what we may not be getting in our diet. I am working out more and noticed that having this is a must! Doctors best magnesium has no fillers and you get quite a bit in this small jar so it last for quite some time. It doesn't have the best taste but I put it in my own vegetable capsules or add it to some juice and I am fine. I take this with d3 from the same brand and my goodness I feel such a difference in my body. My muscles feel more relaxed, I sleep better and my skin has also thanked me for it.
