Delish black licorice toffee!
I'm not a big black licorice fan, but these are delish. Buttery flavor to them. A bit pricy, but worth it once in a while.

At First Firm But Becomes a Good Chew-Licorice Taste Satisfies - Update: They Are Excellent
Update to My Original Review: I changed the rating from 4 stars to 5 stars and these toffees now have my FULL endorsement. They are very delicious, the chew was great, and you can't just eat one!!! Please note that the licorice taste is excellent and addicting. I am ordering more bags and I am so happy these candies exist. After Callard & Bowsers stopped making their brand (and they also stopped making Licorice Altoids) it was depressing. Now my tongue sings again!!!! (Ok, Ok ... ignore the literary poetic license!! I'm just very happy with this candy!!) Original Review and Comments: Like most of you (probably) you loved the Callard & Bowsers Licorice Toffee which is now of course unavailable and not made anymore (same with Callard & Bowsers Licorice Altoids). I found these toffees an acceptable substitute. When you first place it in your mouth, the candy is very firm (though not hard) and a slow chew is necessary to get the toffee "started" which is not objectionable. After a few chews (less than a minute), the toffee becomes chewier and settles into the kind of chew we all look for. The Licorice taste is good and acceptable and will hit the spot good enough. In summary, this candy is a good replacement for the C&B brand.

Closest to Callard & Bowser originals that I've found in 10+ years of looking
Ordered on 23 July. Estimated delivery was "Wed, Aug 19 - Tue, Sep 1". Arrived on 01 August via airmail. Very pleased with that. I am enjoying one of these as I write this review. Here are my thoughts on the similarity to the Callard & Bower originals. Like many others, I enjoyed the original Callard & Bowser licorice toffees and was very sad when they went away. I have tried many, many licorice toffees in pursuit of something similar. At this point, I've probably tried about 40 or 50 different products. I've also resorted to making my own licorice toffees with various recipes I've found on the internet, with mixed results. Usually the homemade versions end up a little too buttery. These are the closest commercial product I've found. They are not 100% the same, but they are the closest. The differences are: 1. Shape. These are oblong and circular. The shape is meaningless to me, but it is a difference. 2. Color. These are a muted black, with no hint of green. The color is also meaningless, but it is a difference. 3. Texture. Now we're starting to enter "things that matter" territory. Texture is very, very similar, but slightly softer than the original C&B toffees. Not enough that a C&B devotee will care, and it's very close. I'd say they are 95% as firm as the original C&Bs. I'm fine with this. 4. Taste. Probably the most important characteristic. Very close to the original C&B, but with a less strong buttery component. Having read a ton of "how similar to C&B?" reviews over the years, I know this is important to most people, myself included. This is the difference I think most people will care about. It's not a large difference, but it is a difference. My estimate is that it's about 90% as buttery-flavored (how's that for a description?) as the originals. The licorice taste component is all there. I'd say these are about 95% the same as the C&B originals with regard to things that you'd care about. I doubt anyone longing for the original C&Bs would be disappointed with these. I'm very happy to have found them. While I'll keep looking for the holy licorice grail that is the full-on 100% DNA matching C&B clone, I'll continue to order these as my #1 replacement. Even if I never find the grail, I can certainly be happy with these while I continue my search.

Beyond Delish! If you love licourice - will buy again!
I am a big fan of licorice and it can be hard to find decent-tasting licorice in the USA - I am originally from another country, so I know good Licorice taste when I taste it! Usually not made in the USA, is a hint. These are yummy. Will be buying more in the future...just cannot do it regularly because I don't want to keep my blood sugars raised, it would be too tempting to eat more and more! Licorice is one of my fav sweets/candies. I even love Licorice plant tea IMPORTANT ALERT!!! Please be aware that a person can consume too much licorice and end up in the ER or dead, read up on how much is OK and how much is dangerous

I love this.
I probably like these too much. I am going to try to wait for a week before ordering more.

Licorice
Love these toffees. It’s practically impossible to find licorice toffees in stores, and the few I have found always were expensive and not particularly good. These are great, flavor as well as texture, and I have ordered them more than once. One important thing to know is that there several differently priced options of the same product on Amazon. Make sure to look at all of them to find the best price.

Just like in England
I personally think this is the best licorice candy. So smooth and creamy. Tasted as good as what I purchased in London.
