2” Gel Memory Foam Mattress Topper

This is the single greatest purchase I've ever made to improve my sleep... worlds better than even my $2,500+ Stearns & Foster mattress... too good to be true for just over $100! I had back problems for years and thought buying an expensive mattress might help, but it didn't... sore back continued, shoulders ached, and I usually didn't sleep through the night. Maybe it was because I bought a medium firm mattress when I should've gotten something softer because I'm a side sleeper and have shoulder and hip points that need to sink in instead of rest on top of a hard surface... but laying this foam topper over my existing mattress fixed everything. If only I would've bought it sooner before paying for all those chiropractic and massage appointments to heal what I just assumed was my aging body, but certainly not my expensive mattress. This particular foam doesn't seem to sink down too much and trap me a hole like some memory foam mattresses I've tried at furniture stores, such as Tempurpedic... it just cushions my bony hip and shoulder points, gently fills in the gaps elsewhere, and makes me feel like I'm sleeping on a cloud. Pretty much every woman I've taken to bed since purchasing this topper has told me I have the most comfortable bed they've ever slept on. When I got the topper, it smelled a little chemical-ly, so I left it outdoors over some chairs in the summer most of the day. It's pretty heavy, so you might need 2 people to not only drape it over chairs, but put on the bed. It also adds some height to your current bed, so you might need to get deeper fitted sheets. I already had fairly high volume sheets for my Stearns mattress that's at least 12" inches high (15" with the topper added) and I still have to pull down like crazy to my fitted sheet under the mattress. I also use a bamboo cooling mattress pad above this foam which adds another inch, which I need because I'm a very hot sleeper and like way cooler temps to sleep in than most people... the mattress pad also helps lock this big blue foam in place and keep it's 4 points aligned to the edge of my mattress, though the foam topper is heavy enough on it's own to probably stay put. I also pair this topper with an Indulgence side sleeper pillow. The other secret ingredient to my good sleep is that I use blockout shades (NOT light filtering shades) over all the bedroom windows to keep it pitch black so I never know the difference between night and day, and don't get naturally awaken when the morning sun pours in. If you have back problems or trouble sleeping through the night, give this Sleep Innovations 3 Inch Cooling Gel Infused Memory Foam Mattress Topper a try. A hundred bucks is a small price to pay for better sleep every single night. You might want to flip it around every 3-6 months to keep it fresh, just as people sometimes rotate their mattress, particularly those who sleep in the same spot every night. When you first get it, it might take a week for some to adjust to its feel, but I was already used to it after a couple days. My blue topper is still going strong after 2 years, but I might buy an extra one soon to have on hand when this one's life has run its course, just to have a back-up in case the product is discontinued, because I've never found any store-bought cushy mattress topper that comes close to the orthopedic benefits of this one and I've never had as many sleep-through-the-night moments in a single year since childhood.

If you are anything like me, you've been looking at dozens of different toppers and reading scores of reviews. Let me help you out and tell you why this is the one you should get. I was having terrible 24/7 shoulder pain, to the point I even consulted my doctor about it. I finally made the connection that the pain started around the same time as I replaced our mattress. I thought I'd bought the current version of my previous, beloved mattress but the new one was just a touch firmer. To test my theory, I picked up a cheap 1 inch egg crate topper. The improvement was immediate but I didn't like the 3 zone, bumpy surface of the topper and felt a thicker one would be even better. So the search began for the perfect 2 inch memory foam topper. I was terrified by the many pictures of the ones that didn't "inflate" properly when unboxed, leaving an unusable, lumpy mess that was nearly impossible to box up for return. Some even came with stains from being improperly stored. Yuck! After lots of research, I picked this one and am super pleased with the choice. Here are the two big things that influenced my decision. 1. This one is made in USA. If I have problems at least I'm not fighting with someone in China. 2. This one both ships from and is sold by Amazon, not a 3rd party merchant. I am pretty sure this means if I had to return it, I could take it to Kohl's unboxed. When my topper arrived, I was worried because the box had excessive tape and looked like it might have been a return. But inside, the topper was pristine, wrapped in a plastic/fabric tube which kept it constrained. I carefully sliced that and unfurled the topper, which was wrapped in a big drop cloth like sheet. It poufed up to full thickness by the time I finished getting it unrolled. There was no 24-72 hour waiting period. Just instant perfection. It didn't smell but I waited until the next day to put it on the bed just in case. It stretxhes out as you handle it and it overhung my king bed a bit but all I had to do was pat the edges towards the middle to square it up to a perfect fit. (My mattress cover fit fine but my fitted sheet was a tight fit. I've since added a 4" bottom border to the fitted sheet by sewing on part of an old sheet and it fits great now. The topper stays put and we haven't had to reposition it once in a month's time. My shoulder pain problem has all but evaporated. The bed is cozy and soft but still has support for my back. You do feel a bit like the middle of the bed is uphill after laying near the edge, but it doesn't really interfere with repositioning throughout the night. Once you move to a new spot, the previous spot springs back up right away. It is the dead of winter, so I can't tell if this will sleep hot during the summer or if the "cooling gel" is legit. It does not have the perforations some others have to dissipate heat. That is about the only thing I would have changed. But I will trade kicking off the covers once or twice a night for debilitating shoulder pain any day. This is one of the best purchases I've made in quite a while. I recommend it without hesitation.

*Note* 10/11/14- I actually just ordered my 64 year old father one of these toppers. It's his first memory foam experience and I'm confident that this topper will suit his sleeping needs and ease him into the comfy world of memory foam. I ordered this foam topper on October 25 2013, so I've been sleeping on it for approximately 1 year now. This is the second topper we have owned with the first being a Serta 4" 4lb density. We upgraded to a King last year and after several nights of restless sleep due to a too firm mattress we decided we needed another topper. I like a very soft mattress and my husband likes a more firmer sleep experience, so we had to compromise. Now I really liked our old 4" topper but my husband who is around 220lbs sunk way too far into the topper and since he is a stomache sleeper it created back problems for him. I weigh 124lbs and tend to be more of a side/back sleeper and enjoyed the sinking into a cloud feeling. So after reading hundreds of reviews and hours of research I narrowed it down to getting a 2" topper and ultimately chose this one. I really like this topper. I didn't at first but it took a few nights to get used to it because I was used to sleeping on a 4" versus this 2" 3 lb density topper. The 4" was like adding another mattress made out of marshmallows and going from that to this made it feel firmer than what it truly is. In reality this topper is soft but it gives you the support our bodies need when sleeping. I would give this topper a 7 out of 10 for softness level and a 5 for firmness. And since I've been sleeping on this for a year and still give it 4 stars the durability has held up nicely, obviously. Anyone who has researched these toppers will tell you that it's pretty "iffy" making a purchase of one of these online. A lot of companies have jumped on the memory foam bandwagon and some do not use true memory foam, or if they do the quality is questionable at best. As a rule of thumb I only purchase memory foam that has been made in the good ole' USA. Just by reading the reviews of some of these made overseas will tell you why. The density of a topper is just as important as the thickness. The higher lb of density means more memory foam. For example, a 2" 2lb density may not have that squishy memory foam feel as much as a 2" 3lb density and so on. I've also read that the higher the density the better the quality. You also need to remember most memory foam retains heat and is temperature sensitive. Not too worry though if you tend to be a hot sleeper you can buy a cover to go over this particular topper, although I hear it may take away some of that memory foam feel. I am not a hot sleeper but do wake up some nights sweating. I also sleep with a medium weight goose down comforter year round so I'm sure that contributes to the heat but it's nothing I am willing to risk my comfort over. So, I deal with it. All in all, I'm happy with my purchase. I was worried that the 2" wouldn't suspend me high enough off my hard mattress but it does! It was late fall when I put it on our bed so the temperature in my bedroom was on the cooler side making the topper feel very firm at first touch. But once you get into bed your body heat will soften it up and in the warmer months it stays very soft. A lot of people say it is like sleeping on a cloud and it truly is. The odor was not bad at all. I was fully prepared to let it air out in our spare bedroom for a week if I had to because our previous topper had a horrible chemical odor that lasted for 3 weeks! I'm extremely sensitive to odors and I had this one on our bed and sleeping on it that very night, no problem. Is this topper the best out there? No, I don't think so. But if you want a high quality topper you're going to be paying high quality prices. For this price the topper is definitely worth it. I recommend this topper to anyone who has a too firm mattress, an older bed that needs a little life brought back into it until purchasing a new one or just likes sleeping on cloud 9.

As someone with back and joint problems I love this. It has greatly improved my quality of sleep. It fits on my mattress perfectly and was easy to unpack/set up. It does retain heat so it can get a little warm.

The memory topper, just as the pictures show as of this posting, is a smooth cut of memory foam with the size of your choosing without a cover (but isn't quite necessary as it should be covered up anyway). It fit the size of my bed perfectly. There was a small odor initially but it wasn't bad at all and it went away less than a couple days later. The topper is very comfortable; I have slept throughout nights more than I ever have before. It's soft yet supportive enough to keep your body level, but I could imagine you would still need something supportive enough underneath the topper to help with that. A memory foam topper would help just a little bit, if even that, with unevenness. I haven't had any issues with the temperature of the topper getting too warm or being too cold while laying on it. When it's cold in the room, the topper is a bit stiff at first, but still soft enough that you'll sink into it, just a bit more slowly than if it was warmer. As it warms up from laying on it that will go away. I've also experienced a significantly reduced amount of times of my arm "falling asleep" from me sleeping on my arm, cutting off circulation. It'll still happen, but the severity and frequency has definitely been reduced. I'm no expert in spinal alignment, memory foam, or just beds in general, but from my experience, it feels very comfortable and I've slept better since using it. August 11, 2015 edit: The quality of this topper is still great. It hasn't become deformed and no rips or tears yet. It doesn't slip around at all either. However, after having this topper this long, I've found that having a fitted cover for it would've been nice. It has started to discolor a little bit (becoming a little bit darker) and hair easily gets stuck in it. I've given up on trying to get them out. However, there's no odor, and it doesn't look bad, yet at least. If you get this, I'd suggest making sure it's covered well to prevent that from happening. Initially when I got this topper, I didn't cover it as well as I should have, so that's my fault. I have it covered better now, however a cover that nicely fits around the topper would still be nice. Also, my existing sheets either barely tuck in or don't tuck in at all when using the topper; just something to keep in mind if you get any topper. You may need to get fitted sheets with deeper pockets.

After opening the package it had this yellow stain across one side of it. I went through other reviews and saw this was a common occurrence. Wanted to get a replacement but Amazon wants you to ship back the original one to get a replacement and there’s no way to roll this back up and send back. I did a google search of this and found this is a common thing with memory foam toppers but doesn’t affect the product. It expanded to the correct size without issue. There was no bad smell to the product. It was comfortable to sleep on as well. I no longer feel my mattress poking my sides when trying to sleep. Overall I’m satisfied with the product but annoyed with the staining on it. Amazon should have a better policy in place for items like this when they are damaged as sending back is not realistic.

This saga of finding a topper that would make my too firm Novilla mattress that I purchased on Amazon softer started in November 2022 and it has been a saga ever since. This is my 5th topper purchase 4 were returned 2 to Amazon and 2 to Walmart. I ordered the 3” Queen and since I do have Ra and Fibromyalgia pain is a frequent problem so with that being said this worked out great at the beginning then I found it to be somewhat supportive and thought maybe a 4 inch would have been better and I didn’t want to return it because honestly it was better then all the ones I returned. Now don’t get me wrong this is a very comfortable topper you sink right in and it comforts you not too hard not too squishy but finding something perfect with Ra is like non-existent because too soft you end up hurting and too firm you end up hurting but what I did was buy a 1” Green Tea Cooling Gel Memory Foam Zoned Support Mattress Topper by Zinus from Walmart to add to the 3” and Walla instant paradise. 😊 So my advise from my experiences is that if you suffer from joint pain you MIGHT have to add to this to find that perfect match, but of course everyone Is different. I’m just glad this topper hunt is over and I finally can sleep without any pain, I love the feel of the topper and it works so well with my 1”. If I ever need a replacement topper I only pray that they have this one still available so I don’t have to go through a hunt again. So I’m very pleased. Mark’s Wife.
