The Complete Guide to ACT English, Fourth Edition

I got this for my son for ACT retake. He’s attempting a superscore. He’s said that this book has taught him a few things that he hadn’t learned in school. He also said it helped him with his SAT too!

This is the best book for both ACT and the Digital SAT (2024). The trick to getting the 35 is to remove the answer key and struggle to get above 85% accuracy on every exercise in the book. Don’t ever look at the key. Have someone check your work and redo your work until you get 100 % correct. You’ll get a 12 point gain if you follow this process and if you take plenty practice tests afterwards. If you look at the key, however, you may only get a two point gain. With more than ten years experience tutoring with this book, I can vouch for its effectiveness. There’s an added bonus too: ACT reading comprehension scores improve with this grammar study. Whatever you score on the cumulative exams throughout the book will be your score on the day of the tests. Of course, taking extra official ACT and SAT practice exams will help guarantee and improve your final score even more.

I think this is a very well organized and well written book to prepare you for the English section of the ACT. Often when you here the word “prep book”, you think of long, monotonous chapters and problems that you could care less doing. However, The book is broke into different lessons with review sections spread out which makes it perfect for breaking it up across a period of time. There are explanations for every question in the book that are easy to interpret and apply. Overall my understanding of ACT English has gone up exponentially and the way this book is written makes it easy to understand and follow. Would highly recommend to anyone wishing to improve their ACT score. Will update on how much my score improved after I take the ACT and get my results back. I have taken several ACTs since I used this book and I can confirm it definitely helped. The first time I took the ACT, English was my worst subject and I scored a 22. I got my results back from my most recent ACT and I scored a 35 on English with it being the easiest section by far. Highly recommend to anyone looking to improve or even solidly their knowledge of the English ACT.
