Great boots but more distressed than I expected
I love these boots, but they are not what I was expecting/wanting so I am sending them back. I guess I didn't pay enough attention to the photos, but they are very distressed. I was wanting something more dressy, but they are great boots if a distressed look is what you want! The leather on these boots is very thick which is nice. I do agree with others that the shaft is a little tighter than some of my other Fryes--just up at the top for me. Once I got them on, however, they didn't feel bad at all. I have always purchased an 8 in Fryes and these are true to size. They seem like they'd be very comfortable. Color is great, too!

I am a size 8 1/2 in all shoes except Frye, I order size 8. After reading the reviews I ordered an 8 1/2 in this boot and the fit us perfect. I have not seen any pics that truly show the color of this boot. They are not a true black, they are a dark grey and not a solid color. They have more of a stonewashed look than a distressed look. The leather is very thick and heavy duty including the zippers. They will last forever. I wasn't in love with them at first because I wasn't expecting the washed out look that they have and the thick, stiff leather. They do need to break in. I have worn them for 1/2 an hour a day for the last 3 days and they have formed to my feet and surprising the leather has really softened up rather quickly. I have fallen in love with these boots! They will only get better as I wear them. I initially thought I might get some frye leather conditioning cream to darken them and shine them up but I changed my mind. The matte dark grayish look is what makes them unique and not just another solid black boot which I have enough of. They look great with jeans and can be dressed up as well. I really like this boot but it probably is not for everyone, especially if you are expecting them to look like the pic on Amazon or the frye site. You can see in the pic that this boot is lighter than the solid black pair next to it.

Delightfully Distressed & Classically Frye
Love these boots. Love them. Love them. Every previous reviewer is correct: they have a distressed appearance. For me, it's one of my favorite qualities about this boot. It's not intended to be polished-perfect. These have that classic Frye authenticity about that them make them distressedfully beautiful in their own right. The dark brown is rich in hue and although the leather is stiff, there is a softness about them that is lovely. I would say the zippers are a bit tricky, but I'm hoping they will get easier as the boot gets older. I wear a 7 shoe and always buy 6.5 Frye. They feel a bit snug (width, not length) and I am certain this, too, will loosen up with age. I just ordered the same pair in black and decided not to order a 7 -- sticking with my standard 6.5. Can't wait for them to arrive!

You better have thin calves and no tucking in your jeans!
This is my fourth pair of Frye boots. The craftsmanship, style and durability cannot be beat. I would have given these 4 starts, but the calves are so small, I had to knock off a star. I wear a 6 and the footbed feels like the right size. My calves are not large and they are extremely tight. So tight that I will only be able to wear these with tights or bare legs. Thicker socks would be pushing it and forget tucking leggings or jeans in them. Also, due to the stiffness in the leather, awkward placement of the zipper and tight calf, VERY hard to get off on your own. I had this strange little bubble of claustrophobia pop up just before I was able to get them to move a bit. With that being said, they do look great on. Had these not been ridiculously on sale, I would have to return them. I do need these to stretch out some in the calf area.If you have calves that run a bit on the skinny side, you will probably love them.

Love, love, love
Love my Frye boots. Comfortable and great fit. I usually wear a 7.5 wide in dress shoes or pumps (Aerosoles brand). I wear an 8M in athletic shoes like Asics. I ordered the 8.5 in these boots and they fit great. I did not want them to be too tight. I was surprised the calves fit well. After reading other reviews I thought I might not get them on over my calves. I have athletic, muscular calves. I am 5'2" and about 116 lbs. Not sure if I could get them over skinny jeans but they will fit over leggings and tights. The dark brown leather has a distressed look, as well as the sole of the boots. It is not a defect. They are designed to have a worn look. Think dark wash jeans vs. distressed jeans. You can buy all types of jeans new but the different washes will give them an aged appearance. Same with these Frye boots. The price was great too, under $150.

Nice quality boots, but received a defective set
As soon as I opened the box, I could smell the nice quality leather. I immediately fell in love, the color was perfect. So I go to try them on, unzipping the right boot, only to find that the zipper is actually a faux zipper (or at least is was on the right boots). So I'm like okay, I'll try to get my foot in anyway.....no chance. So I pull out the left boot, unzip and here I finally figure out the right boot, is defective (the leather on the inside of the zipper was uncut). Now that I'm actually able to get at least one boot on, I could assess more. The biggest issue with these boots, is actually the calf circumference. The leg opening is a good size, but from the top of the shaft down to the ankle, the boots actually flair way out before tapering to the ankle. If your like me and don't really have very muscular calves, then these boots look really dumb. I felt like I needed the calves of a linebacker to fill them out. Such a shame, minus the defect, they are very beautiful boots, just too big in the calves.
