A must read for Gears of War fans, but far from the best in the series.
Warning, some spoilers to follow:Although not as good as a Karen Traviss Gears of War novel, Bloodlines is quite good overall. It helpfully connected the gap in time within Gears of War 5. The story of Gabriel Diaz, which comprises the middle 60% of the novel is far better and more satisfying than the present day story, though not without its flaws. The novel alludes to Gabriel's career as having extensive black-ops missions, while it only comprises a single mission over the course of a few days. However, it is far more interesting than Kait's story. It is not the author's fault that Kait is a terrible, cardboard cutout of a character. Only has so much to work with considering her strange derision for JD over the incident mentioned in Gears 5. Somehow, shooting at people that are throwing bombs at you first is shameful, but throwing bombs in the first place is acceptable?

I prefer the Karen Traviss era, but these have been good so far.
If you're a Gears fan and want as much lore as you can get, this is right up your alley. The author does a good job of steering into the skid that is the Swarm and making the characters interesting. It's no Karen Traviss/Locust stories but it's worth reading. I've enjoyed it.

Compelling Storyline: A Tale of Family and Loyalty
“Gears of War: Bloodlines” primarily follows Kait Diaz, a character introduced in Gears of War 4, as she grapples with her connection to the Locust Horde – the monstrous enemies of humanity. Hough expertly intertwines Kait’s journey with an overarching storyline involving the war between the Coalition of Ordered Governments (COG) and the Locust, giving readers a perfect blend of emotion and action. Readers also get to know other characters from the game, like JD Fenix and Del Walker, who become more than just sidekicks as their motivations and perspectives are explored. As expected from a novel in the Gears of War universe, “Bloodlines” features several intense, heart-pounding action sequences. Hough deftly describes the brutal battles between the COG and the Locust, as well as skirmishes with other factions like the Outsiders and the Swarm. These action-packed moments are balanced with quieter scenes that allow readers to delve into the relationships between characters and their motivations. Hough’s writing style creates a vivid picture of the Gears’ world, making readers feel like they are in the middle of the action.Throughout the novel, Hough explores themes of sacrifice, redemption, and hope. Characters often face difficult choices, forcing them to reevaluate their priorities and what they are willing to give up for the greater good. The theme of redemption is particularly prominent, with Kait seeking to make amends for her family’s past and other characters grappling with their own mistakes. Ultimately, “Bloodlines” is a story of hope – hope for a better future, hope for redemption, and hope for the characters as they face seemingly insurmountable odds.In “Gears of War: Bloodlines,” Jason M. Here's my Thoughts on the book
I want to try to keep this with little to no spoilers, I'm sorry in advanced if I spill anything important so I'll keep it short. This book is great for Filling in the Gears 5 Gameplay of the time Jump "4 Months Later" in the Transition Mini Scene of completing Act I Chapter 4 to the Act 2 Chapter 1. Plus if you already have bought Gears Tactics read this book first and then jump into it. Tust me its cool when the books and games connect.Other wise came on time I believe like the same day or a day after it came out it arrived in practically new condition. I did enjoy the book I can't really comment on the author its my first time reading their work, but I do look forward to the next one.

If you're a Gears head, this is for you
Well written, and engaging. Won't divulge much, but I really think you should get this if you like Gears at all. I prefer Marcus as my main guy but was still pleasantly surprised. Any addition to my favorite franchise is a good one in my books. Pun intended.

Play Gears Tactics immediately after or before
What a great story. The entire 2nd act focuses on Gabe Diaz, Kait's father, and he is a fantastic character. Gears Tactics, the RTS game, pairs perfectly well with this book. All this lore building is incredibly interesting and addicting.
