The Pioneer Woman Cooks: Dinnertime - Comfort Classics, Freezer Food, 16-minute Meals, and Other Delicious Ways to Solve Supper Review: I expected "beh" I got "WOW"! Surprisingly good book - Beautiful photos, which is a must for my cooking books. I cannot cook unless I have a visual of the end result. This book has plenty of images, including of the preparation steps, and not only of the recipes (not that I need to know what this woman's family or farm look like... but, since she wants to share, that's ok too). Most important, the recipes are very clearly explained and are extremely doable. Nothing fancy. It's a recipe book for "family cooking": I am vegetarian so I have access only to some and not all of the recipes: everything I tried so far came out perfect, no need to make my own "edits" or adjustments, it all worked out very well. I also love that the author (who, my husband just told me, is very famous... I never heard of her, sorry) provides little practical asides with alternatives in case one is missing an ingredient and doesn't feel like riding to the supermarket. I am not American: therefore I love that the author is giving me a chance to learn some "real Americana" stuff, which I usually get to taste only in restaurants and diners. EASY TO USE, EASY TO UNDERSTAND, BEAUTIFULLY ILLUSTRATED, GREAT PRINT QUALITY, REASONABLY PRICED, INTERESTING RECIPES EXPLAINED INTELLIGENTLY ENOUGH TO BE REPRODUCED WITHOUT PROBLEMS. p.s.: Like ALL recipe books published in America, however, this one too has poorly thought-out indexes. But that's the fault of editors and publishing houses. Review: Great book with easy to follow instructions and pictures! - Purchased this for my wife as a Christmas present. Ree's recipes are wonderful and with the many pictures and explanations, are easy to follow. The book is almost like a story for each recipe and is fascinating reading. Although my wife is an expert cook, she loves the many foods that Ree makes and has cooked many of the recipes in this book. Her instructions are so well written, that I can follow them to make a dinner for my wife and I am not a good cook. Her recipes use what a good cook would have in the kitchen and nothing that's exotic or expensive to purchase. A beginner cook would love this book, and even someone that has cooked for years will get pleasure from the many dinners that are presented on the pages. Ree is an excellent photographer and the pictures make the book even better as you know how each step should look like and then the end results. If you can match the end product, you know you did it right. And you also know you just made a excellent meal!!!

This lady is my new kitchen Idol, the pictures are amazing, the food is amazing and the book is beautiful!
I ordered this book because I fell in love with The Pioneer Woman cookware. Seriously the stuff is amazing but back to the book. This is not your ordinary boring cookbook. There are a ton of pictures of her life on her ranch and of her family and animals with funny captions. The recipes are really easy to follow even if you have no cooking experience. There are step by step pictures and instructions for everything. I also love that there are suggestions for other recipes that will go good with a recipe. I have tried many of them and have not been disappointed once. My husband and my kids love the meals as well. Dishes that I would think would be complicated are broken down so they are easy to follow. My personal favorite is the Salisbury steak and gravy recipe. I seriously love this book and definitely recommend getting it. I am already looking to get one of the other Pioneer Woman cookbooks.

The pioneer woman cooks again!
This is the 3rd cookbook from Ree Drummond and it encompasses her usual enthusiasm. What some might not like is that the recipes have already been published on her blog. It would have been nice to have more new recipes in here that she could have presented on her show in the future; but the book is a good place to have them organized in and easy to find. There are 2 indexes. One section has them divided into recipes for everyone such as, kid-friendly, cow-girl friendly, fancy friends, neighbors in need and then there is an index by main ingredient Recipes include; breakfast for dinner, salad for dinner, soup for dinner, freezer food, 16-minute meals, pasta, comfort classics, new favorites, veggie sides, starchy sides, quick desserts. Ree does use some shortcuts, not everything is prepared from ‘scratch’, but then she will tell how to make your own pico de gallo, caramel sauce, cheese biscuits or refrigerator rolls. There are photos of the recipes and also the step by step instructions. She also includes photographs of her family, friends and the ranch. The pages are colourful and she tells a bit about each recipe and prep tips, also how to stock up the fridge, pantry and freezer. Many recipes have make ahead and variations. The salad section is wonderful, the dessert section is simple. It has no pies or cakes. None of the recipes are that complicated. Many recipes do have a southwestern flavor and use hot sauce or peppers, but if you do not like them, they can be left out or not as much put in. We have prepared and enjoyed sesame chicken salad, buffalo chicken salad, lasagna roll-ups, skillet lasagna, and polo asado – among others that we already fixed from her blog. This would make a wonderful gift for beginning cooks and anyone who likes good simple food that many times is a bit different than the run of the mill comfort food.

The book itself is colourful, not only the recipes. Full of wonderful photos by Ree Drummond with funny captions. Each recipe is introduced by the writer. When I first got it, I only read these, it is like reading a book, Ree is clever and funny (check out her blog or watch on Food Network). The recipes are undeniably American (tex-mex mainly) in taste and sized for a big family and calorific (they are a very active family) but the ingredients are common enough to be easily obtained in the UK and I can always choose to substitute the ingredients for lighter versions. The mesurements are given consistently in cups and spoons, however, there is a conversion table at the end of the book. Unlike some other cookery books, this one has got photos and descriptions of every step of every recipe which makes them really easy to follow. Also, with every recipe, Ree offers tips for making ahead and for variations. I genuinly believe that ideas in chapters like Freezer Food, 16-Minute Meals or Pasta Pronto might make the life of really busy families easier.

I really like this book. The steps are clear, the pictures are great, and the selection of recipes covers most items you would want to make your family for dinner. I've tried a couple of the recipes and they worked out well and tasted great. Gave one of my sisters a copy as a birthday present, and the other sister looked through it at the party and asked for her own for Christmas.
