They’re not permanent and smear
I mean… the title says it. They smear on matte, shiny, paper, it doesn’t matter. Just buy some Sharpies and the aftermarket adapters instead

Leaky pen
The teal gel pen leaks. Ruined a box of insert cards and a card mat.
