Clay Play! Animal Favorites (Dover Children's Activity Books)

I bought the Clay Play! Animal Favorites (Dover Children's Activity Books) for my eight-year-old son, and it has been a fantastic purchase! The book is a wonderful guide for young, creative minds and provides hours of fun. The book itself is of good quality, with a sturdy paperback format that holds up well to repeated use and handling by kids. The pages are laid out in full color, and the illustrations are bright and engaging. The visual presentation is excellent and makes the projects very appealing. The core strength of the book lies in its easy-to-follow, step-by-step directions. Each project for the 29 different animals includes a material list and instructions that use numerals corresponding directly to color photos, providing clear visual examples for every stage. This design really helps children (and adults!) understand how to form the clay and ensures success, even for beginners.

The illustrated guide provides a fantastic variety of models with step-by-step instructions for creating fun and creative clay models. I purchased this for my 5-year-old granddaughter and she has created some of the models and has begun more projects inspired from this book. She also likes showing me the different things she plans to create from the book and it has been a fun, interactive gift so far. It does provoke some thought as to how to form their clay from a 2 dimensional picture with their clay. But the opportunity for them to create and improvise during this process does provide some useful skills. I included a basic set of sculpting tools here on Amazon (which were under $7 at the time). These are a good thing to include if gifting this to a young person. They are similar to the wood and steel tools that they might use as they grow their skills.

My 8 year granddaughter loves these projects and they turned out really cute. She was not overwhelmed at all by the instructions.

We have been doing a lot of clay. I think this book is great and the directions are easy to follow. However, both of the kids prefer to do their own thing with the clay. This would be good to get someone started.

My granddaughter lives making creations with air dry clay. This little book has sparked her imagination and helped her with the details. Its a great help.

This book is amazing! My grandkids, ages 5-11 were so proud of their creations. It was a bit difficult for the 5 year old, but he still enjoyed it.

I purchased this to help with molding fondant animals. This is exactly what I wanted. Great book for the crafter or baker in your life.

My kids have loved recreating the animals on here with their clay. Easy and clear instructions with a variety of animals to choose from. A really good idea to get kids started creatively.

Book was easy to follow with some great techniques. My 8 yr old daughter with my help created some fab pieces which she plans to gift to her teacher and grandma. 2 yrs on, I've still got the sloth she made me! She was able to add texture before we cooked it, after using the book as inspiration! She was 7 then, so it was really easy to follow. We still have the book and plan to revisit this project soon!
