Steps for Audio Fix and Copyprotection Fix - Windows 7 - Ezcap now works perfectly for me!
This product DOES work with my Windows 7. I had problems at the beginning getting it installed correctly, because the company doesn't put the correct drivers on the disc, as many others have also stated. I found this solution WORKS, from another reviewer with Windows 7:1.Plug the ezcap into a USB port on your computer.2. Go to Control Panel, click on the main heading: Hardware and Sound, then click Device Manager3. In Device Manager, look under `Sound, video and game controllers." If you see "USB EMP Audio Driver" it needs to be changed.(This is how to do that):4. Right click `USB EMP Audio Driver' then `Update Driver Software'5. Click `Browse my computer for driver software'6. Click 'let me pick from a list .......'7. Select `show compatible hardware'.This should give you two driver options, Window's own `USB Audio Device' and the `USB EMP Audio Device' driver.8. Select `USB Audio Device'.9. Restart your pc and try using the ezcap again. It should work now. There is one more little problem having to do with the arcsoft capture software thinking I'm trying to pirate copyprotected material (and I'm not, these are home videos). This happens when the tape has gotten warped for some reason (maybe it is bent in a certain location or has degraded over time) and the capturing process reads this as a copyprotection code. But I'm now trying another simple fix, just following the instructions of yet another buyer here on Amazon to edit an .ini file within the Arcsoft program. It is very simple to do and doesn't require any fancy software, just Notepad which comes with your Windows pc. The instructions are as follows: [NOTE: I changed the instructions to fit my location in the "Program Files (x86)" Folder. You may have to look under just "C:\Program Files\ArcSoft\Total Media ShowBiz\com.ArcSoft.CaptureModule\"1. Navigate to:C:\Program Files (x86)\ArcSoft\TotalMedia ShowBiz\com.ArcSoft.CaptureModule\2. Open "CaptureModule.ini" with notepad. Add "ProtectOn=0" under "[CaptureModule]" and save.If it does not let you save, it is because your pc user permissions need to be changed.Right click on the file, select propertiesselect "security" at the topclick on "users" and click on the "edit" boxPut a click in all the boxes and click on "apply"I'm enjoying seeing my old videos again, and now they are shareable on Facebook and Youtube. I encourage anyone with old magnetic tape formatted home videos to buy this and start saving them now. Yeah, there might be a slight learning curve, but you can do it, and this product does work. It would be nice if the manufacturers would start putting the answers into their packaging. I decided to give it Four Stars because of this, but otherwise it would rate 5.

Does the job
I searched for a long time, reading reviews and checking out websites to find a way to download my videos from my Sony 8 camcorder without firewire. It seemed the more I searched the more confused I became as to what works and what doesnt. Since I own a windows 7 (64 bit) it soon became obvious to me that EzCap was my best option. I didnt have the right cords to get started so I ran around and got the right cords and was set to go. I use the S cable (nice feature) with the red and white audio cords for the highest quality. You do not need the yellow if you have s cable. I plugged it in and it worked good. Not great, but it did the job. One of the first things that jumped out at me was you are not able to create your own scene's unless you stop and restart your recording. With pinnacle studios you can press the space bar to create a new scene without stopping and restarting the whole recording. I tried to download it in pinnacle but it crashed my program every time. No such problem in ArcSoft (the included software) so it must be a pinnacle thing there. I would not recommend ArcSoft for your movie editing. Windows movie maker is better but if you are looking to do a nice job you can buy a low end movie maker for between $50 - $100. Also had some problem with the sound even after the "fix" they send with the package. The right speaker only makes a loud thudding noise while the left speaker puts out near perfect sound. I am checking out whether it is because my cam is mono. Either way not a big deal to me because I dont use that cam for audio.Overall a descent little device with a nice price tag. I am giving it a 4 star because it is not a complete package (no cords at all) and the software is could use some improvements. Still there is a lot that can be said about just getting the job done, and EzCap certainly does that. It has enabled me to to the task of getting all my DV tapes onto my hard drive without going to an expensive lab. Also it is much cheaper than pinnacle's "movie box" or "dazzle".
