Sky-Watcher S20550 Star Adventurer Ball Head Adapter, Telescope Accessory, Green

If you have a SeeStar smart scope and are planning to run your scope in EQ mode with an equatorial base (like the SkyWatcher or William Optics), you'll need something to go between the scope and the base. After researching several different options (including Vixen bars - where you need to add a space like "fender washers", as the little pads on the corners of the scope base will hit on those) I decided to go with this, and am very happy with it. One tip / trick - The power button is supposed to point up once you attach the scope to the base. When you screw this adapter into the SeeStar where it is securely tight, the orientation of the side clamping portions may not be properly aligned with the base. In order to get things properly aligned (where the power button is pointing skyward) I removed the two tiny screws that hold the threaded bolt into the adapter - which worked well for me. Good product that did exactly what I needed at a very reasonable price!

Purchased for use with Seestar50 on an Explorer Scientific mount. Works well as vixen plate.

This is exactly what I needed for my smart telescope EQ mode, but it has one big flaw. The screw is fixed while it should be allowed to be screwed from the other side so you could properly orient whatever equipment you mount it to. Now you must rotate the whole adapter until you can't rotate it further and wherever it stops this is what you get.

I bought this thinking I could use it to attach a smartphone mount to my telescope finderscope dovetail. But, I was wrong. It fits a telescope dovetail, not the smaller finderscope dovetail. If you want to attach a camera tripod ballhead to a telescope dovetail mount, then this product is for you. I attaches securely and has a 3/8" fixed screw for the ballhead. Note that better camera tripod heads use the 3/8" size screw mount. Inexpensive and small travel camera tripod mounts use a 1/4-20 screw. So, check your camera mount before you order this product. I have some high end Manfrotto ballheads and they will fit it nicely. So, alas. I will be returning this and looking out for a suitable mount that fits the finderscope mount. If I manufactured this, I would also offer it in the smaller size as many people are starting to use smartphones as finderscopes on their telescopes.

I believe it is all metal piece that will last. I like the bright green coloring, easy to find in my gear. Best part if the little divot on each side that is used to keep it in place. You do not have to over tighten the screw and it holds firm. I use it to attach my ball mount onto the star adventurer tracker.

This adapter is very useful when trying to mount a camera or Star Adventurer on a vixen-style mount.

The Sky-watcher Star Adventurer GTi kit did not include the adapter for attaching a ballhead and camera. Purchase of the adapter allows the star tracker to be used. Part is well made and fits the mount head and ballhead well.
