This mattress ships compressed and can take up to 48 hours to fully expand. We recommend waiting to use the mattress until it has approximately reached its full height. This can take anywhere from on hour to couple days. All new foam products can have a new smell when they are first opened. This smell is completely harmless and should dissipate very quickly. A great way to air the mattress out is to place it in a well-ventilated room with a fan blowing on it. This mattress is not designed to be use as a topper and should not be used on top of another mattress. Our 8-inch mattress is also not designed to be used as a topper.
