Picture Quality not maintained.
Picture quality drops drastically. The minimum expectation is that the picture quality of the source feed is maintained on the HDMI output. Additionally, the device does not work with a 5V 1A adapter, a 5V 2A adapter is needed for the device to work. The box says, no power supply is needed but that is not true.

Recently replaced old home theater with new soundbar which turned out not to have A-V RCA connectors for input. This was a problem for my phono turntable. But the soundbar did have an available HDMI input. This RCA to HDMI adapter solved the problem. I did not need the yellow (video) RCA connector since I was concerned only with audio (red/white) so cannot speak to video capability/quality. You do need to provide your own L/R (red/white) RCA cable. The power cable is only a USB cable, one end standard USB, the other mini-USB - think Android phone or Kindle. But you have to provide your own power block to plug into electrical outlet. The provided cable is short, maybe 18-24". You could easily substitute with an extra unused USB power cable floating around in your junk drawer. Also, my turntable had a pre-amp built in so that was not a problem in my situation. Overall, very pleased - easy to set up, worked great, problem solved.

My husband is a fanatic for old systems and playing games on their original system. IE the reason we have become game collectors. Anyway, he finally got his hands on a SNES that fit my standards for purchasing but we had the trouble where our TV could not convert the game images properly where the screen did not shake. I figured that this would fix it because it would work like my old VCR did when I was growing up, my husband on the other hand - who never experienced the through VCR method - was doubtful. When it came today he was wary of the lag between the controller and the TV but low and behold I was correct and there was nothing there. It ran perfectly fine with no interruptions or lag. The screen is even blue like my VRC was back then when you start it up. Hands down solved our problem and my husband is ecstatic. One side note though, I don't know if it is with all of them or just ours, but the 1080 and the 720 were switched. You can tell though because it will tell you on the TV which one you are actually using which is how we found out. Husband had it set on 1080 but when we turned it on it stated it was set to 720. So that is something to keep in mind. Anyway if you are having the same problem we did where your TV just can not upgrade from the original 240i to 1080p than this will fix it for a pretty cheap price.

I compared this along with some other options for scaling my my Nintendo 64 to use on our big screen. I know that the TV itself has no display lag when using HDMI since I have connected a computer to it previously. Though it has direct RCA AV input, it introduces upscaling to convert the signal to 720p (from the N64's 240p). This adds, in my estimation, around 200 to 250ms of delay, which is very noticeable in most any game, particularly when inputs are time sensitive (such as racing or rhythm games). I have heard mixed reviews on the MINI AV2HDMI, and was skeptical given its small stature. The switch on the side to select 720 or 1080 is also upside down? Sliding to the 1080 side, the TV reports a 720 signal, and vice versa. To its credit, thought, the unit's height allows it to be easily affixed to the rear of my wall mounted TV with double sided tape. Initially, the converter did have a fair amount of lag, 100-150ms, so I had discounted it from my winning list. But, a second kick at the can (after rebooting the TV, changing games, and placing the converter at 720p) proved to have much less lag, into the sub-50ms range, which ended up being the best option for me besides a dedicated CRT. This amount of display lag is not generally noticeable since a frame of animation (at 30fps) is around 34ms, meaning 1-2 frames of lag for upscaling. I switched back to the first game (wave race) and did notice the delay again when changing menus, while the second game (super smash bros) on its second boot again did not have the lag, so this could be just be part of the N64 system. Because I am only testing with an N64, I cannot comment on picture quality to any great extent, since I can count the pixels on one hand, but quality appears to be about equivalent to the internal upscaler on my TV when using AV input methods. The unit does need external power, though i do not know if it would be able to run on the 50mA that HDMI could provide from the TV. My shipment included, however, a USB cable (which i connected directly to my TV, so that it would receive power when the TV was on.) A complete package would have included a short (3 foot) HDMI cable as well, but one could be picked up for just a few dollars on Amazon, if a spare is not readily available.
