If your gum disease is to the point where you find yourself distracted or being sometimes unable to sleep due to the gnawing/burning/itching ache/pain in your gums, you'll probably have to use the strongest concentration of this solution on your mouth for a while. I added it to my waterpik but what really helped was brushing my teeth with this stuff with a premium manual toothbrush, being sure to get it under my gums as best as I can. I'm genuinely amazed how this stuff managed to help me at all alongside occasional diluted sodium hypochlorite water-flossing(Jørgen Slots) and MD Bonnor's Torrens powder recipe. It's great for plaque(I literally saw improvements after the first-day, where Xylitol took months just to remove about the same amount) and I'm sure it can help with tartar/calculus deposits as long as they don't look like limestone canyons in your mouth. Genuinely in disbelief how this stuff doesn't have much of a reputation anywhere. If rinsing/waterflossing it doesn't do much for you, try brushing with it. I have very sensitive gums and teeth and I didn't experience any discomfort whatsoever or heightened sensitivity.

I've had sensitive gums all my life. I purchased this when my cleaning appointment was canceled indefinitely, due to COVID, in an effort to keep things in check until my dentist office resumed taking non-emergent appts. About a week into using this product I noticed my teeth felt cleaner than usual after brushing, and my gums were no longer bleeding upon brushing or flossing. During my cleaning this past week, I noticed that the hygienist barely had to do any scraping and only mentioned tarter in one hard to reach spot. She even commented that she could see that my gums were in better shape than usual. I never told her or my dentist that I was using this product, as I wanted to see if the difference was noticeable. I definitely think this product made a big difference in my oral hygiene. My hygienists is adamant about pointing out every spot of of excessive tarter, and does so without fail. She literally only mentioned the one hard to reach spot and then complemented me on improved gum health. That was all the confirmation I needed. I personally swish twice for 20 seconds before brushing to soften/loosen anything on my teeth and then I swish twice for 20 seconds after brushing/rinsing and do NOT rinse the solution out for prevention. I have been quite pleased with the results!

I will need to update this after a trip to the dentist. Using a water flosser, it really gets into where it needs to be.

I started using this product 2 years ago along with a Water Pik flosser and gum massager. When I had my first dental cleaning after having used it for 6 months, my dentist couldn't believe how great my gums and lack of tartar build-up was. It was the fastest cleaning I have ever had. I started out with two scoops in my water reservoir initially and backed down to 1 scoop once I felt I had gotten things where they should be. I have no issues with any taste when using this as it is mixed in with water. I just know it performs as advertised and helps keep my gums and teeth healthy.

This item was purchased in March right after a bad dental appt where I was diagnosed with periodontal disease. There were several pockets that were deep (one very concerning measured an 8, (which is on the worst end). My hygienist and the dentist put the fear of God in me about bumping up my oral care, otherwise I could be facing a bone graft. I went on Amazon and started searching for products. I bought a waterpik and also Periogen to go in it. Although my oral care was not terrible (I brushed every day, and had no cavities), I was not as diligent as I should have been. Believe me, this was a wake up call. I started brushing 3x per day, using floss once per day, and after the 3rd brushing used the waterpik with Periogen rinse in it to blast the Periogen into the pockets and the gumline. I've done this for 8 weeks. Yesterday, was a follow-up appt to address the deep pockets - an under gumline cleaning was scheduled for yesterday, along with them shooting an antibiotic into the 3 deeper pockets. Well. . . the hygienist was shocked at how well my mouth looked. There was no bleeding with this cleaning, the gums look pink and healthy now. The deep pocket that was of most concern had shrunk from an 8 to a 5, and the other 2 were not needing to be addressed at all with an under gumline cleaning and antibiotic. She asked what I had been doing, and I told her the regimen I started after the last appt, and she said we almost never see this kind of turn-around. So whatever you're doing, you're on the right path and continue doing it. Periogen is amazing.

My mouth produces massive amounts of tartar. The tartar I produce is also hard and difficult to remove with brushing. This means I have dental cleaning everything three months. This product has absolutely made the tartar build up removeable with brushing. I’m almost to my next cleaning and I have no tartar buildup I can see or feel. I’d guess the negative reviews are people who already have massive buildup and expect this product to dissolve it. You have to use before every brushing and brush twice a day.
