Simple wonderful sealer
This thing has been around now for almost 10 years and it deserves a great review! I use this every week to seal in nuts and beans for my dry storage and it works wonders. I live in a moist climate and I was having to put dehydration packs in everything before I got this. Now I buy large quantities of dry items and keep them for a year. Love this simple wonderful little gadget. No leaking and it's tough, it lives in my main utensil drawer and gets knocked around all day long.

Must have for all FoodSaver vacuum system users
Hello FoodSavers, I thought of creating this video for all of those who have several doubts in their mind before purchasing this product (Note: Video doesn't have audio). I know this because I had several doubts in my mind, like; -Which jars are suitable for this sealer and does it really work? Answer: Mason Jars are suitable for this sealer. I am using Ball Mason Jars (Pint size) and they work great with this sealer. -Will it work for moist/wet items including liquids? Answer: Yes it does work for moist and wet items like prepared pasta or any type of sauce. I haven't tried liquids but it should work. -Can I remove it once fixed on the Jar or I have to purchase one per each Jar? Answer: Yes, you can remove the sealer from mason jars once sealed like shown in the video. This is the great thing I liked about this product. Food saver cum money saver. -Which jar to buy and where? And will it cost me more as the FoodSaver bags? Answer: Any mason jar should be good according to the type of mouth. But Ball Mason Jar works for me. They are available on Amazon but I got it from Walmart. I got pint sized wide mouth jars, a pack of 12 for $8.5. -What is Regular mouth and Wide mouth sealers and are jars available in these type of mouths? Answer: Two types of mason jars are available in the market which are compatible with these sealers. Though keep in mind this review is for Wide-mouth jar sealer. So if you have purchased wide mouth jar sealers you will need wide mouth mason jars and for regular mouth jars purchase the regular mouth sealer. -Are jars and lids/bands reusable? Yes, all components are reusable. That's the great thing about Mason jars and this sealer. -How much is a Pint or a Quart? 1 Pint = 16oz = 0.47 liters 1 Quart = 32oz = 2Pint = 0.95 liters -How can I know that the jar is really vacuumed? When you place the lid on the jar and then vacuum it using this sealer, vacuum pressure is generated within the sealer and it sucks all the air out (also from the jar and the area above the lid) and so it tightens the seal firmly over the jar. At this moment if you remove the tube from the sealer you would hear a sound, this is because the air enter the hole immediately as soon as you remove the tube. Try pulling the lid and you may have to apply force to remove it. This indicates the jar has been vacuum sealed. -How to remove the lid once it's sealed tight and frozen? If you have frozen contents in the vacuumed jar sometimes it would be difficult for you to open the lid. There are chances that you may damage the lid. To avoid this either keep the jar in warm water for few minutes or hold the jar under hot water tap for few seconds. Hurray... enjoy your food :). Though be careful while holding the jar under hot water as you don't want yourself to get any burns. This product is a must buy as FoodSaver bags are expensive and cannot hold wet/moist items (like sauce or wet pasta). Hope this helps. Note: I am using it since couple of weeks now, so do not forget to read the user manuals and use your vacuum machine accordingly. I created this video to clear doubts in people's mind so that they can purchase this product willingly. Cheers... Update May 9th 2012 11:59AM EST - I am very pleased with this product. I have stored Pasta, Thai Curries, Asian Curries and also Indian Curries in Mason jars using this sealer. They taste almost the same even after 5 to 6 weeks. Saves hell lot of money but also time which is the important. I never thought I would use my vacuum system the way am using it currently. Even you can prepare soup and store it for several weeks/months. Though keep in mind that most of the product after vacuuming needs refrigeration. So place it according to the items suggested in your vacuum system manual. I wonder how people can give 1 star for such an amazing product. I am loving it.

Works perfectly, prevents food waste
This jar sealer is a must-have if you own a food saver machine with a hose attachment. I have so many mason jars, and I always used to just put food in there and screw the lid on the traditional way. Once I realized they made an attachment to vacuum-seal the jars, I had to get it. Certain foods just aren't a good idea to seal in the regular food saver bags if they are fragile, juicy, or squishy. Mason jars are the perfect solution for that. The cost of this jar sealer is cheaper than buying more bags, so in the long run you are saving money because you will use way less bags if you start sealing more stuff in jars. This jar sealer works perfectly. Just attach the hose to the top, pop the sealer on top of your jar and press the button. It's kind of a tight fit and you have to use some muscle to put it on and off, but that's ok. The sealer is made of a heavy-duty white plastic with a blue rubber rim on the inside. It appears to be of high quality, not the kind of plastic that will crack or break if dropped. Before I used this, I wasn't too sure if it would actually give the jars a legitimate seal, but it really does. It seals them so tightly, I always have trouble getting the lid back off when I wanna access the food again. When I do get it off, I hear a nice "pop" of the seal breaking, so I know it worked. There's not much else to say about this jar sealer. It does exactly what it's supposed to do and it does it well! No issues using it with my 4900 series food saver machine.

Potential to preserve and save food easily and inexpensively.
These vacuum accessories along with a hand held vacuum device and a supply of Mason jars can store all kinds of food in a vacuum for much longer than they would remain use able in the jars alone. I punch a small hold in the mason lid and cover it with vinyl tape (scotch magic). Put the food item in the jar, cover with lid, put food saver lid over the jar top, and then apply the vacuum. You don't need the rings that come with the mason jars. To open the jar, simply remove the tape. In most cases the lid will pop off, but some need to be pried just a little, taking care not to bend the lid. Replace the tape for the next use. The vacuum device I have is the "Pack Mate Vacu-Seal 95000" that I bought at Walmart years ago for $9.00. It works perfectly with the vacuum lids. Careful, I've seen the exact same unit available on the internet for $50.00 which is way out of bounds. Do a careful search. Caution. You need to apply the vacuum until you notice the unit not changing the tone of the sound it makes as it extracts the air from the jar. If you don't apply the vacuum long enough the lid will not seal well. Then removing the Food Saver lid will also remove the Mason lid. I consider this a safety factor, as it's better to have the lid come off before you store the jar, than to find the lid loose and the product unusable. Practice on an empty jar until you can learn how long to apply the vacuum. The hardest part of this process is removing the FoodSaver lid. Also have a spare set of batteries available (6 AA) for the vacuum unit. It's bound to fail to function when you most need it. I use rechargeable and they work fine. I vacuum store raisins, dates, pop corn, and rice beside left overs that you refrigerate or freeze. While there are vacuum bags sold, I don't use them because no matter which kind I have tried they all fail. Besides, the jars are more sterile and reusable.

Ich finde das Konzept mit den dazugehörigen Ball Mason Gläsern einfach genial. Ich verstehe nicht wieso Foodsaver dieses Teil nicht auch zusammen mit Ball Mason für die Gläser in Europa vertreibt.

I had watched quite a few you tube videos demonstrations before I purchased these containers I really did not believe that they would work as good as they do. I decanted my fruit and veg into them. Normally, fruit does not keep more than two days before I was either putting them in a smoothie or chucking it out. These have kept broccoli. , cauliflower, plums and salad fresh for five days and still perfect. I will buy again.
