Awesome knife! Impressive quality for the price.
I am by no means a professional chef and I've never had the money to purchase expensive, fancy knives because I'm a financially independent college student living off scholarships and loans. That being said, as far as my personal knife experiences go this is one of the best knives I've ever used. I do a lot of cooking and chop large amounts of vegetables about 4 or 5 times a week. It responds very well to sharpening and it holds its edge quite well- significantly better than the other knives I have in my drawer! It cuts tomatoes without squishing them, slices onions without slipping off of them, and lets me easily get through butternut squash and turnips. Honestly for just under $14 this is an invaluable investment and it seems that a good, sharp knife makes cooking a lot less tedious. The light weight is nice and the shape of the handle keeps my hands from cramping when I'm chopping a large batch of sturdy veggies. The chef knife style blade is deep enough that I don't have to worry about smooshing my knuckles into the cutting board, either. The plastic sheath also really came in handy when I was moving because I didn't have to wrap it. It also lets me store it in the cutlery drawer without having to find a place for it in my knife holder. All in all, excellent knife and I will probably be ordering the other size knives from Zyliss as well because I like this one so much.

Sharp and good
This knife is sharp but will still require a maintanence like any other knives. I haven't seen any rust on my knife like others but I know what caused that rust on knife. The rust will also happen on the other knives, expensive or not, if you keep putting the knife into the dishwasher. Dishwasher is nice and easy for housecare, but don't abuse your stainless steel cookwares or any metals through that. The dishwasher has a water cycle that rinses and washes your dishes and it will use steaming at the end of the cycle. The steaming is used to ensure no bacterias can stay on the dishes and this is hygienic. However, the steaming is not good for steels as it causes rusts. The rusts on the steels happens because of oxidation between the air, water, and steel. The result should be seen after a few years of continuous contacts between these elements, although the heat might be a factor that speed up the process. The rust has happened to me before, not from the knife though, but from my stainless steel pot handle, spoon, and rice cooker's pot. I handwashed them according to a guide in Youtube and it's all clean. Later on I also find out that it is better to wash knife by hand and wipe it with paper towel or a cloth to clean them. Their reason is not the same reason as mine. The dishwasher can chip the knife's edge away because the knife keeps hitting on other dishes in the dishwasher. The chipped edge will make the knife blunt and broken, it will be dangerous. It doesn't matter if the knife is dishwasher-safe, the best treatment for all knives is still handwash and dry with a cloth or paper towel afterward.

This is a nice Chef's knife
This is a nice Chef's knife. It was pretty dull out of the box, but I purchased and Accu Sharp tool with the knife. After sharpening, it's a fine knife. I'm not ready for the Food Network with my awesome knife skills, but it does the job and the blade is sufficiently sharp for chopping and other cooking jobs. I watched a youtube video on sharpening knives (since all my knives have been the "never dull" types that have been gifts). I cut a brown paper bag and made multiple small cuts with light strokes. When I cut ripe tomatoes, I have to give it a pull on the top. I was expecting the "hot knife through butter" effect. But, I'm a rookie with a sharpener. It does slice better than a brand new "never dull" set; and they are doing amazing things on their informercials. I'm happy with the grip and the heft of the knife. I'm sure we will be friends for a long time.

Great Little Knife
I bought this knife 4 year ago, when I got it we had a serious illness in the family and I stuck it in a drawer and forgot all about it. Cleaning out the drawer last week, I found it and thought "What the heck, I will try it now." Well, now I regret stashing it away It is a great knife. It it just a tad smaller and lighter than my other chef's knives (I think that is why I bought it in the first place, to try the smaller knife.) Sharp, sharp, sharp. Easy to hold and feels nicely balanced to me. I like the handle, gives my arthritic hands a good grip. I cannot speak to how it will last over the years, but right now, I am using it every day. Nothing like a good knife that is sharp and fits your hand. Besides that, the price is right I have paid much more for a lesser quality knife

Maybe because I tend to wash it right away but no visible rust so far. I have waited about 6 months to see if the thing indeed rusts but none so far. That is good considering I like to cut limes and tomatoes with it. I think I may go for the full set now that I know the product is good. I have had to sharpen it a couple of times though. It holds a good edge but I just like to keep it razor sharp.
