First time finisher highly recommends.
Arrived promptly in a sturdy cardboard box. Jug lid seam was sealed with white tape, which I kept and used in re-sealing after use. The jug was inside a zip-loc slider-style bag (slider locked in place with more tape). I would think this could hold up to quite rough handling during shipping. This and the Old World Shellac flakes I ordered from Amazon combined to make a good, clean shellac. I'm french polishing for the first time, and it's going well. I wanted to choose the properties of my shellac solvent. I was unaware they also sell a 200-proof denatured alcohol, but I have noticed no clouding in my finish at all with the 190. See my answer in the Q&A portion for the chemistry. Smells like a bottle of alcohol from the liquor store, not paint-thinner-ish in the slightest. Spilled a little on my finger while pouring it and, like an idiot of course, touched the tip of my pinky to my tongue....GAH...revolting in minute quantities 'tis denatonium benzoate. I would opine that you can't get less toxic denatured alcohol than this unless you go the sin-taxed everclear route. January 2026 update: still have some of my initial gallon left & still works great for shellac. When I got it, it said it was SDA 40B a formulation defined in Title 27 cfr. I can't confirm this as of now on distributor's websites, which only refer to "denatured" alcohol with no type specification. Label on photo here includes "ethanol PM-3224" which is a variant of that likely including small amounts methanol and ethyl acetate & may include methyl isobutyl ketone and forms of naphtha. Unless specified, "denatured" is a vague term that includes denaturants either unfit for consumption or toxic.

Its... Denatured Alcohol!
Its Denatured Alcohol!! And its... 190 proof!! ...not really too much to say. It looks like it is what they advertise. You can tell when you smell it that its Denatured and notice its LIKE Ethanol but with a bit of an "unfriendly" smell to it as well, like paint thinner or something.

Should ship in 1 gallon jug, not 4 quart jugs
Now that Denatured is on California's S list for toxics, it's very difficult to find, so was very happy to run across this. It does what I need to do, but taking off a star for wasteful packaging.

Perfect for shellac use
This is so much better than what I used to get at the big box stores. It dries very fast - much faster than the old clean strip stuff.
