Great book with very solid teaching
I really liked this book. I was looking for something that would help me, as a father and a husband, lean into my God-given role and this book really helped. It has multiple sections on different aspects of Christian Living For a man's role as a husband and a father. I like this book so much that I'm going to be buying a copy of it for my newly engaged son so that he can get a head start on learning some things that I wish I had been trained on prior to my marriage.

a valuable biblical primer on the living the gospel at home
Timothy Witmer provides a gospel perspective on the challenge and privilege of shepherding a family. This book has potential to challenge any follower of Christ to a clearer understanding of biblical gender roles. Witmer also provides a practical framework for a father to begin shepherding his family. One connection I wished was made more visible is the biblical concept of the family as a reflection of Christ and His Church. Men would be well served to consider how a vital connection under the authority of local church leadership would provide the context to model godly submission with joy.I plan to make use of this valuable book with the men of our church and thank Timothy Witmer for his fine work.

Very thorough
We are called to examine ourselves, and this book provides very good tools for husbands and fathers to measure their work in those roles against timeless and godly principles. But it is more than a measuring exercise, reading this, it is also a huge encouragement to us who are at work to be tender with our little flocks, and to lead with grace. @TZWitmer, thank you for this wonderful encouragement.

Best book on manhood available?
I have read several books on biblical manhood, and they have been wonderful: Phillips, Stinson, Scott, and Bauckham are all wonderful godly men who have written great books. That being said, I have a hard time saying any of their books are better than this one. This book is biblical, concise, and extremely culturally insightful. It also has study questions at the end of each short chapter making it the ideal discipleship resource for biblical manhood.

Quality!
What a treasure. Went through this as a men's study at church and it was a great experience. If possible, try to discuss this with others as you read, it will allow quality conversation to flow and great topics to take root. Tim has a very casual way of getting to the heart of childrearing and does it with pointed grace. I highly recommend this text to and parrent of younger children. It will only add to the toolbox you have in parenting.-Wes

Solid, bible-centered counsel for leading a home
Tim Witmer's book is full of sage advice, centered on scripture, to guide a man in shepherding his home and family. The book is an easy read, and contains insights you will want to re-read from time to time. A must for every husband and father's bookshelf!

Good Primer for the "Shepherd Leader"
I have read several books on this topic and enjoyed this one the most. Brings many things to the forefront and one that would be valuable for bible study or counseling a young couple preparing for marriage.

Excellent!
My small group from church has been going through this and while it was intended for an all-male audience, it is perfectly applicable to husbands and wives. It has been a great launch pad for discussion in the group and between my husband and I. It is grounded in scripture, but has some excellent practical elements to it.
