(National Geographic Kids) Review: Window Into The World! Large Format. Filled With Photos & Facts. Read, Peruse, Use As Reference - This book is awesome. It's big, has a glossy hardcover, about a inch thick and filled with colorful photos, and pages of info. My kids loved it and could not stop looking through it. My second grader (7) is reading through and soaking up all the worldly facts. My preschooler (5) loves looking all the pictures and asking questions. Even my tot (2) enjoys it. This is just perfect and a window into our fascinating world for young curious children, especially since we have all been stuck at home for almost a year now due to the pandemic. It's fun to read through, peruse, and useful as a quick reference. I ordered it before Christmas but it was out of stock. It arrived on 1/3 nicely packaged and in perfect condition. The timing was actually great. After the excitement and madness of the holidays, my kids were hungry to read and learn. This would also make an excellent gift for any child! If you know a curious child, don't hesitate. Review: Good Choice!! - Purchased for my 12 yr old granddaughter. She loved it...her dad was excited about it also since she tends to need "short bits of data" and the book is full of all kinds of information!

Many good facts, but not so engaging to read
The title of my review might sound contradictory, but this is exactly what I found out with this book: it has many great facts, but somehow neither I or my 7 year old son (who LOVES fact books) ever feel like reading. I think the book's main problem is that it tries to provide so many facts that it becomes difficult to approach. As an example, look at the facts about sharks. It is so much information, with so small font, that I feel like I am reading a prescription drug disclaimer. Yes, fact 33 about sharks, "Port Jackson sharks use their flattened teeth to feed on shellfish and sea urchins" might be a very interesting fact for other people, but by the time I get to that line I really could not care less. Fact 39, "Far more people are killed each year by dogs, elephants, and bess than by sharks!" is way more interesting. I probably would have preferred that fact to have way more space, and a picture of a puppy next to a shark. Now I would be entertained! Not every page is like this, though. As a good example, the "25 Red Hot Facts" page shows mixture of small facts that are interesting and well illustrated. Knowing that the Sahara is almost as big as USA is definitely interesting. And call me simple, but having a picture of the desert enhances the whole feeling of reading the book. I think I would have preferred this book to be "500 awesome facts" and have just a selection of facts, with better illustrations. Overall, I still rate it 4-stars just due to the effort they put to collect all the information, and just the massive amount of information on it; but I would like if I said we read it often.

Great for kids!
I bought this book as a Christmas gift for needy kids. WOW! It's big, sturdy, and beautifully designed. And packed with fun information. When I was a kid, we got our info fix from an almanac. Today, it's books like this. I think a fun resource like this book will be a springboard for its recipient to learn more about many fascinating topics, and reinforce that learning can be F-U-N.

5000 Awesome Facts is no lie. Great, fun book for young and old alike.
My kids love this book. As an adult, it harkens back to the feeling of the old encyclopedia brittanica experience of yesteryear when you could just find fun facts in books. This is better though!

I bought this book for my niece's 7th birthday. I was slightly concerned on arrival that it would be too old for my niece (although her reading age is very advanced) but she was thrilled with the present and is already absorbing and repeating many of the interesting facts. I intended this to be a book that she dips in and out of rather than reads from cover to cover and this is indeed perfect for this type of reading. Each page is absolutely packed with relevant facts and pictures and I am sure that she will be reading this on and off for the next 5 years at least. Really happy with my choice and my niece was thrilled. Great value for money I think. (One point to note maybe is that it is a very big and heavy book. Maybe not suitable for taking on holidays or on trips, and maybe even a bit heavy for younger readers to read on their laps or in bed.)
