1,000 Places to See Before You Die (Deluxe Edition): The World as You've Never Seen It Before

This is large, expensive book, but it's well worth the money. It arrived covered in celophane and so was in pristine condition. It's an exquisite volume with all 544 pages packed with lovely fascinating photos from all over the world. So far it's held me spellbound for about three hours, and I've still a long, long way to go. It's very much a visual book with written descriptions kept to a minimum, but with enough text to give important information about the photos, all of which look as though they've been taken by expert photographers. A perfect Christmas gift for armchair travellers.

Z jednej strony pięknie wydany album. Z drugiej jednak strony dobór przedstawianych miejsc jest co najmniej zastanawiający. Już na początku zdziwienie: UK + Irlandię omówiono na 35 stronach, a Portugalię na 4 stronach, Austrię na 4 stronach... O Europie Wschodniej nie ma co wspominać. Cała - od Chorwacji poprzez Węgry i Polskę po Estonię - zmieściła się na 15 stronach. Potem jest już tylko ciekawiej. Na USA przeznaczono 90 stron, a na cały Bliski Wschód (Izrael, ZEA, Oman, Katar itd) ... 8 stron. OK, to jest dość ciekawa wizja świata, muszę przyznć, że nie bardzo moja. Skutek jest taki, że niektóre "miejsca, które muszę zobaczyć przed śmiercią" z USA są zupełnie nijakie (pierwszy raz o nich słyszę), a nie ma atrakcji z innych państw, które rzeczywiście są warte zobaczenia. Ale takie prawo autora, żeby dobierać sobie miejsca, które zna i które wydają się być mu ciekawe...
