Maxxic Minion DHF - Dual Compound - E25 Rating, Tubeless | Gold Standard of Gravity Focused Tread

Purchased this tire for the font to match my DHR II in the rear of my Mountain Bike. It is grippy and perfect for blue and black downhill trails. The tires are wide and knobby and are thick enough to be durable. They are not fast rollers but have more grip.

Love this tire! Was originally running a 2.3 high roller II and was not pleased with the way it handled unless you aggressively leaned the bike. There were really no "transition" knobs on the high roller II, so mid turn on anything other than super tacky and the high roller would feel like it was squirming under me. Rode a new tallboy 3 for fun, which came with the 2.3 dhf and was super impressed. Knowing that I had just picked up some 30mm wide carbon rims, I decided to try the 2.5 for a front. I was not disappointed. When you buy these tires, make sure to read the part number and ensure you're getting the exact tire you need/want. They come in a lot of variations. I actually purchased one from another seller first, and they mis-listed the item as an exo dual compound - when I actually received a double down exo tire (literally 1500 gram heaviest tire they make). Now, i'm not a weight weenie or anything, but when you order a tire you want to make sure the compound and sidewall are going to work for the riding type you do. Dual compound is great for middle of the road tread softness. Not too hard to be super focused on rolling resistance, but not too soft to be a detriment to keeping speed. Typically, the dual compound is what comes on the stock DHF tallboy 3, so that's the way I went. I can say, after riding the double down casing, the standard exo casing is much grippier on hard pack. The harder the sidewall, the less compliant it will be to form around the terrain and obstacles you are riding. The exo protection on my old high roller was awesome for well over 2 seasons of riding, so I stuck with that and nothing more. Not to mention that the standard exo single ply is much lighter. Again, not a weight weenie, but I really noticed the difference putting this one on compared to the double down. the front just feels super nimble compared the the heavy double down - and thats saying a lot for a 2.5 front. Also note, this tire in the 2.5 29er form, though not always listed this way, is the "WT" tire - meaning wide trail sidewall design. Both DHF's had this, so I'm unsure if I can tell the difference this WT creates. They say it's a better rolling profile for 30-35mm - I've heard of lots of guys with 28mm internal going with WT as well. Overall, the single ply exo dhf is an amazing trail tire. If you're looking for something on the aggressive side of trail for a front, this tire has gobs and gobs of grip and really doesn't roll any worse than my high roller II 2.3. It doesn't roll quite as easy as a nobby nic, but it gives a ton more confidence and seems way more surefooted in any terrain you can throw at it. I paired this up with a 2.35 ikon exo rear, which I feel really balances the bike out for rolling speed & grip. was really surprised how well they worked together, even on dry dusty hardpack.

Have been Super happy with this tire for aggressive trail/all mountain style riding in rocky north east terrain. The 2.5 volume seems a little exaggerated, but it is ok where it is and does not leave me wishing for more. Early indicators on the durability have been very good, and definitely surpass the much more expensive Schwalbe Hans Damf which had up until now been my benchmark for this style 29'er tire. I live in North Eastern CT, and there is a tremendous amount of rock in the area that destroys tires. Perpetual rock gardens abound. My hans damfs had Every Single side nob, and transition nob torn away from the tire carcass in half a season of riding. So far these are showing very little, to no wear on the side nobs and no damage to the sidewalls. The Hans Damf's have great volume, and would seemingly be great in more loamy or even sandy conditions, but they suffered the knobs ripping off, somewhat durable sidewalls and tire carcass in the snake skin/trailstar version (did suffer from some cuts and punctures on both the sidewall and in the treads that were not sealable by stans alone), generally short tread life in the center in these rocky conditions, and were not very good at shedding mud. The Minions are definitely now my go to tire. Have the 2.5 DHF up front, paired with the 2.3 DHRII in back. Loving the combo, though would like to try a DHF on the back as well, as the 2.3 is a much lower volume (looks more like a 2.1-2.2) and requires some extra pressure. I am really liking the DHRII's though, and even with having to run a little extra pressure it performs amazing. I just wouldnt mind a little extra volume. Climbing, braking, and cornering traction, and durability are soooo far above and beyond the Hans D's its almost not fair to compare them as a rear tire.

This is my favorite MTB tire. I run a 2.4 on the back and a 2.6 on the front. Where I ride most of the time there is a lot of sand. This combo provides the best grip. It works well on the forested trails of Central Oregon and the mountains of Idaho as well.

My order was based on the information that package tag shows. As seen in the picture, it says 29x2.5 but as a surprise, the real size is 29x2.5WT. I run on stardard 25mm wheels so I didn't want a WT tire. My bad for not doing an extensive research but I think a correct description by the manufacturer would have been a good thing. Besides of this issue, the tire did fit my wheel, not a perfect fit, but enough for my "not serious" riding. Tire has lots of grip, so it was a nice upgrade from a front 2.2 XC tire. I installed on a Trek Marlin 6 and clearance was not an issue at all.

I won't ride with anything else on my front wheel. This was my 3rd DHF! Very fast delivery...best price I could find.

E' un pneumatico oggettivamente pesante, nato per la disciplina del downhill, che non ha bisogno di presentazioni. Che io ne faccia un altro uso è un problema mio e la scelta è consapevole. Credo mi durerà in eterno, perché vado molto piano sia in salita che in discesa, su terreno a volte assai accidentato e bici carica di bagaglio, per lunghi viaggi, al punto che non mi serve certo il DHR al posteriore, va benissimo un secondo DHF. Nonostante il progetto sia fuoristradistico, il grip su asfalto, anche bagnato, è impressionante: senzaltro merito di una mescola di qualità. Ho scelto questo pneumatico perché nei miei viaggi mi capita ogni tipo di fondo e mentre un tassellato va ragionevolmente bene anche su asfalto, una gomma da strada non permetterebbe di affrontare pietraie. Rinuncio quindi alla scorrevolezza e alla velocità (anche perché con bici carica di bagaglio la velocità è una chimera), a vantaggio di una lunga durata, di un uso allroad, una ragionevole garanzia di imperforabilità, senza necessità di portare con me un pneumatico di ricambio o due. Ho equipaggiato entrambe le bici da viaggio, in due diverse misure (27.5x2.5 e 29x2.5), con quattro DHF e mi ci trovo da re. Per quello che dunque può valere il mio parere, non certo specialistico sulla disciplina del downhill, lo consiglio come upgrade inappuntabile e da prendere in serissima considerazione, per chi faccia del Gravel spinto in viaggi lunghi, il suo divertimento. A condizione che il telaio accetti la misura.
