I love the knife but did anyone else have an issue with the intricate pieces being wonky? Like the studs and such?

I bought this knife and the retainer strap on the scabbard would not fasten. The knife fits very loosely in the scabbard and without the retainer strap, the knife will not stay in the scabbard. I contacted the company who stated they were only the seller and gave me another person to contact, they too abdicated responsibility and gave me another person, etc. The bottom line is that the scabbard, (which was a cheaply made, poor fit to begin with), was never repaired or replaced. So the knife constantly falls out of the scabbard and now the decorative studs are falling off the handle. DON'T BUY THIS KNIFE!

I'm not the seller of this knife, although I did buy one some months ago. I agree it's a lovely piece, but I wouldn't call it a sgian dubh (black knife). That type of knife is designed to be tucked into the knee sock of a man wearing a kilt. Personally, I didn't see a need for any additional conditioner on the knife I have. Also, I would question whether mine is rosewood, as it doesn't have a rosewood smell. I have a small collection of essential oils that I use in blending incense and other things, so I am familiar with the smell.

Can this blade be sharpened well?

Damascus blades or any high carbon blade will sharpen and hold an edge quite well, and can be resharpened easily. One does not have to use a sharpening stone all the time. Stones are usually used because the blade is chipped or otherwise damaged. The best way to retain a good cutting edge is to strop the blade with a leather strop. Check YouTube for good techniques of honing and stropping As for keeping a blade rust free oils and beeswax aren't the best choice since they contain acids that will damage the steel and cause rusting. The best way to prevent rust is to use a micro-crystalline wax. Renaissance Wax Micro-Crystalline Wax Polish is available through Amazon, as is the Pre-Lim Surface Cleaner by Renaissance. NOTE: I have no connection with the company, but use the wax on my knives and other collectables. Renaissance Wax was originally formulated in the British Museum research laboratories. In accelerated aging tests, scientists found that all current commercial waxes based on the usual natural waxes (beeswax and carnuba wax) contain acids which, in time, could spoil original finishes including wood. The key words for any article one wants preserved is 'acid free'. If one spends to buy a Damascus blade or a high carbon blade the wax is cheap insurance to protect an expensive or rare blade's value.
