Well designed and sturdy.
I have put together quite a few "furniture in a box" projects in my travels. I would have to rate my experience, with Prepac, as near the top of the list for quality, design, and sturdiness. The materials are solid and the finished piece is both impressive and attractive for the price point. The assembly, as with all "ship flat" furniture... is no walk in the park... but the instructions are clear and everything fits together perfectly. I would, highly, recommend 2 things for the assembly. An electric drill with a Philips head screwdriver bit... and an extra pair of hands. This can be done by yourself... without an electric drill... but plan on setting aside quite a chunk of time when doing it this way. The drill will cut your assembly time by 3/4... at least... and the extra pair of hands will help a great deal. Overall, I was very impressed with everything about this dresser. The only problem I encountered was that a few small pieces of hardware were missing... and one of the drawer face pieces was damaged a bit in shipping... but the company shipped out replacements right away.

Love this dresser!
I purchased this dresser in the white color about five years ago, and it has held up extremely well. It’s very sturdy and durable, with no issues over time. The drawers still glide smoothly and don’t stick or sag. Even after years of regular use, it honestly looks as good as the day it arrived. The finish has held up nicely and it hasn’t loosened or become wobbly at all. This has been a great long-term purchase and I would definitely recommend it for anyone looking for a dresser that lasts.

Easy Assembly-Fair Price
The Prepac Sonoma Superior 5‑Drawer Chest earns consistent praise for delivering great value, stylish appeal, and practical storage—but assembly is where some buyers hit speed bumps. Here’s a balanced overview based on user feedback: ⸻ 👍 What People Love 1. Stylish & Spacious Design • The Sonoma design — featuring a clean laminated finish, curved top edges, pewter-style knobs — blends easily into many room styles . • Drawer dimensions (~24.75″ W × 5″ H × 12.5″ D) offer ample space for clothes and linens . 2. Solid Build Quality • Engineered wood with solid pine drawer sides and metal glides make it sturdier than typical ready-to-assemble (RTA) furniture . • Drawers slide smoothly and include safety stops to prevent them from falling completely out . 3. Excellent Value • Many reviewers highlight the great balance of quality and affordability for the price . ⸻ ⚠️ The Assembly Woes 1. Time‑Consuming & Sometimes Frustrating • Users often report it taking 2–4 hours, with assistance recommended . • One Redditor summed it up well: “this thing took me and another person **TWO AND A HALF HOURS to put together… I have never been so aggravated in my LIFE.” 2. Parts & Labeling Issues • Many say pieces aren’t labeled; some dowel holes need adjustment or reinforcement . • One buyer noted missing screws—though replacements were available: “…missing a screw for the knob… You could probably get a replacement from your local Lowe’s.” 3. Vulnerable Finish • Minor scratches and dings are common out of the box; a felt-tip marker for touch-ups often ships with it . 4. Material Concerns Over Time • Drawer bottoms are thinner and may degrade with heavy use . • Some mention light odours or smell from new particleboard — airing out pieces before final assembly may help . ⸻ 🔍 Final Verdict • Great for: Buyers wanting a stylish, spacious chest with solid value and don’t mind the DIY effort. • Plan accordingly: Set aside a chunk of time (2–4 hours), have at least two people, and prep tools like a drill, hammer, and possibly glue. • Tip: Inspect everything on delivery, label parts as you go, keep hardware organized, and touch up scratches promptly. ⸻ ✅ Bottom Line If you’re okay with a bit of assembly hustle, the Sonoma Superior 5‑Drawer Chest delivers above-average sturdiness, smooth drawer action, a clean look, and excellent price-to-quality ratio. Just bring patience (and maybe a friend) to the setup—and it’ll serve well for years to come.

Garbage instructions. Cheap and unsafe construction. No rustic feel, just cheap.
Looked forever for a dresser, decent price and standard 5/6 drawers. Saw this and purchased. Did not realize it was just pegboard and not a sleek finish on inside of drawers (my fault). However, that does not make this ‘rustic’ it feels so cheap! One cam lock broke through the back of the dresser, so that was a thing. It’s all around cheap, very easily breakable, and the instructions were GARBAGE. I did this with my sister, we have both put together multiple pieces of furniture and this company made it SO MUCH HARDER than any other one I’ve dealt with. The parts were separated by maybe 3 bags? So many screws/bolts/etc were thrown together. Back pieces, side pieces, bottom front piece, and middle shelving were NOT labeled so you have to just look at pictures and orientations to put it together correctly. The edges of the dresser are DANGEROUS!!!!! We moved the finished body from hard floor to carpet in the bedroom and ended up with a cut arm from moving it and the slightest friction caused a razor like cut across my sisters arm! I would have returned this garbage but I was just past the return window by the time I was ready to put it together. It will do its job, but this has been the worst furniture experience I have ever had. This is NOT for beginners, or assemble on your own friendly. I do NOT RECOMMEND. I have assembled my own dresser prior and had NONE of these issues!

Was nervous at first, but it was the best decision!!
I bought this dresser for my teen as we were re-doing her room. We got it in the color white, so of course we could see imperfections very easily. I was a little disappointed as several boards arrived damaged. At first I was going to send the whole dresser back, but what a hassle that would be! Then, I thought I'd just deal with it, but decided to reach out to the company and inform them what boards were significantly damaged. (I planned to use the rest of the damaged boards as I didn't want to be too greedy and only cared about the ones with significant damage). The company immediately replied and sent out new boards! Unfortunately, there was some confusion and they sent the wrong size for 2 drawer faces. So, emailed them again and the new ones were on their way. Then, as I'm building it I made an error that I couldn't correct, so I reached out and a new board was on it's way within days!! Even though the dresser took a while to build because of the back and forth, I am SO grateful to this company! They never once hesitated on sending me replacement boards, they didn't ask for pictures of damages, and they worked as quickly as they could getting them out to me! The dresser looks great and is exactly as described. I will note that the bottom of one of the sides has started chipping already which makes me sad, but all in all I am pleased with my purchase. When I need another dresser I will absolutely look into this company again. If you are on the fence, just go for it! If there are damages, the company will make it right. The directions were easy to follow and I (a woman who doesn't know much about carpentry) put it together alone. It took a while and several breaks, but it couldn't have been easier. I had to laugh as my last package from this company came with some peanuts and I'm not talking about packing peanuts -- they must have gotten hungry fulfilling my order over and over again! haha!

It’s fine
I was looking for a dresser with particular dimensions and this was the best one I could find for face value. I ended up having it shipped to my work to avoid porch pirates at my home. (No one is going to be able to steal this from your porch…) Turns out it’s shipped in a giant 92 pound box. My mistake for not looking at the weight beforehand! It took the delivery driver and their helper to get it in the building and me convincing a coworker to help me carry it to my car. After getting it home, I noticed straight out of the box that some of the front facing wooded pieces were chipped and dented. I went ahead and put it together regardless. (I can touch them up with paint later) The instructions were pretty straightforward. It calls for a flathead, Phillips, a hammer and recommends at least two people to assemble. I was able to assemble it myself but I would recommend getting an extra hand moving it if you’re not confident enough. I was able to knock it out in about an hour. The directions have all the parts labeled by letter but my parts were not labeled out of the box. If you’ve ever put together a Lego set it shouldn’t be too hard to figure out though. Although I didn’t need them, most steps have a QR code to direct you to a how to video if need be. I would recommend using a drill for steps 19 and 20 if you have one on hand, if not I hope you appreciate a good forearm workout. All in all I would rate the build 2/5. For a novice or ill equipped builder I can see it being a bit tough. Quality wise, I would give it a 3/5. I do notice some gaps between the drawers but they’re decently sized for storage. The chipping could be due to shipping but I do worry that it will easily chip over time. Also be warned, your home and whatever clothing you store are going to smell like wood for awhile. If you have the space/time to air it out it could help? To recap: Pros: - Sturdy. - Decent sized drawers. - Fit the space I needed it for perfectly. - Straight forward directions. - Comes with a tip over restraint to install. Cons: - No parts were labeled. - Heavy! (92 pounds in the box) - Some of the wooden parts arrived chipped or dented. (mostly the front facing ones) - Some steps towards the end of the instructions will require a drill. (even though it says screwdriver) - Noticeable gaps between drawers. - Long lasting wood smell.

I was scared to buy, but I don't regret my purchase! Love!
I read through countless reviews on this dresser and multiple others. There are so many horror stories of boxes and materials being damaged, dressers being junk, etc. I debated buying from my local furniture store, but the dresser at $200 wasn't quite what I wanted (antique chic, and I wanted clean white; wrong size; etc.). I would then have to pay for delivery which was $50 to leave it at my door or $100 to bring it inside my home. I need multiple dressers, so this quickly went over my price range and out of my budget. Back to Amazon I went...and decided to take a chance on this beautiful dresser. I must say I was pleasantly surprised when the dresser arrived EARLY. The box was a little banged up, but the materials are packed with spray foam and were in PERFECT condition. Not a nick on them! All pieces were there and accounted for. It took my husband and I about 2 hours to assemble. The instructions were easy to follow. There were some screws that were tough to get in, but we managed! We hand tightened everything to ensure we wouldn't overtighten. The drawers slide easily. The dresser is very sturdy. It looks wonderful. I can fit drawer organizers in it. I'm buying another for the kids. My husband isn't even complaining that we'll have to put another together... :D In regards to quality... some of the dresser is MDF (medium density fiberboard) instead of real wood. I one hundred percent expected this based on reviews and price point. It doesn't feel flimsy at all. The drawers are real wood. The bottoms of the drawers are a type of thick cardboard, which is pretty typical. The back of the dresser is mostly mdf. The supports are real wood. The legs are real wood. The drawer pulls are a nice, heavy metal. I would expect this dresser to survive decades in a non-abusive home, 10+ years with small children, and a couple of moves so long as the movers aren't overly rough with it. If you have children who climb into drawers of dressers... well, I think you need to invest in a better quality one to withstand that abuse! So far my kids are leaving it alone, but we'll see if that changes once I get the next one (which goes in their room). Overall, we're pleasantly surprised with this dresser and can't wait to buy another one next month!

Really Nice, Consumer Friendly
This is a really nice dresser. It is probably considered middle tier as far as the quality because it is not solid wood but it is also much nicer than the particleboard you might get at a discount furniture place. It takes quite a while to assemble, but I always find that dressers take quite a while. They can be a pain, but this particular dresser was very consumer friendly with its labels and instructions. For example, I believe that the most difficult part of assembling a dresser is constructing the drawers but with this particular product they have embossed L‘s and R’s as well as color-coded wheels on the drawer parts. There are lots of little screws and a fair amount of steps involved, but the instructions and the organization were so much more efficient and direct than what I am used to. It feels sturdy and I think it’s absolutely beautiful to look at. The hardware is a nice quality and it’s easy to grip. The drawers glide smoothly. It has a great amount of storage. I am really happy with this dresser!
