Very, very thin padding!
This is my first pair of padded shorts, as I am a novice mountain biker. The "padding" in these shorts is very thin. All the padding consists of is another layer of fabric sewn in on top of the mesh liner. No foam, no gel. Just thin material. At first these shorts provided enough protection for the short rides I was taking of less than an hour. But today was my first "long" ride with these shorts on. I rode for 2 hours and toward the end it was starting to get uncomfortable. The back right pocket secures with a zipper, which is kinda neat. But that's about the only advantage these shorts have over basic, non-padded shorts. So bottom line: If you're looking for a pair of shorts to provide multiple hours of comfort during long bike rides, DO NOT GET THESE. If you're just going to be cruising around the neighborhood, I guess you could get by. But if I could get my money back for these, I would.

Very close to nearly perfect...
I purchased this short about a week ago and just had a chance to use it today. Fit and finish is good, but I think the pocket in the right rear was probably not well thought thru. I would have prefered a 'cargo pants' type pocket and/or zippered side pockets. Padding is also quite thin, so I think this is meant more for a soft ride as oppose to a true trail ride. While it is described as baggy, I didn't think it was that baggy, but definitely not form fitting. In my opinion, I don't think you can go wrong with buying this product.

Big Legs!
These shorts are made of really nice quality, durable looking and feeling fabric. The fabric is very soft and doesn't appear that it would cause chafing. The padded seat inside is pretty thinnish. It would offer more comfort than no padding at all, but if you want something cushy, you'd probably do best to add a set of padded under shorts to these. They seem like nice shorts. The reason for 4 stars and a return is that the legs are really big. They looked like a skirt on my husband. He usually wears a size Large in everything. On the advice of other reviews, I ordered an XL. The pants fit fine, but the legs were so big, they looked silly on my husband. True, he does have slim legs, so if your thighs are big muscled, you may appreciate the extra room. But these guys are going back!

I call these Iron Man Pants
At 62 I have purchase a lot of clothing. Mostly dress and casual wear but much of that was and is for sport.I belong to a fitness club called the JCC Oscher Center in San Rafael CA. I bought these shorts to do my spin classes. I do not own a bicycle but spin 10-12 times a week.Since the purchase I have worn these shorts no less then 5- 6 times a week. Not only that but I spin, swim, jog, and wear these shorts daily for all the activites I have listed. Plus, I wear them every day washing & drying them twice daily. Never before have I encountered such a product with such a durability and for so little money.I plan one writing to the manufacture and shipping them the shorts as my testimont that these Cycling Shorts are the best ever. Most Sincerely,Seteve

Lycra for the rest of us
I wanted some shorts that did not cost too much and were not flashy and would not look too absurd on what might be called a portly figure. These met those requirements pretty well. There is a nice zippered wallet pocket, which is plenty for me. What is kind of neat is that they nest a stretchy padded inner short inside baggy, flappy outer shorts. They have proved comfortable on daily rides of twenty miles and on longer excursions of fifty and sixty-five miles. If I get another pair of shorts, I will look for some that have heavier padding, but I think that as others have suggested, these were a great starter pair.

very nice
These are very comfortable, nice looking, and do not slip and slide around the saddle. If you have a reasonably comfortable saddle on your bike (and you should keep experimenting till you find one), you will like these shorts. The padding is much less than the spandex shorts that I have, and I find these more comfortable because they are not heavily padded. If I had a tiny, narrow or otherwise ill-fitting saddle I would probably prefer more padding. My saddle is pretty comfortable without shorts, becomes less comfortable with well-padded spandex shorts, and is the most comfortable with these shorts for 1-3 hour rides.

No chaffing
Rode 102 miles straight through the burning sun and my skin is still in good condition. Padding was super thin however, which is why I gave it 4 stars, I had shorts just like it that I bought from a local store which had more padding (gel) on it than these did. They were very comfortable with the addition of a gel padding on my saddle. I love Canari products, they are very comfortable. They are so comfortable that I use them for MMA and Jiu-Jitsu and then ride my bike with them. I would recommend these to anyone.

What to wear?
First, let's start off with size. I'm large but I'm biking to loose weight. I bought a 2 XL and it is still a little tight.Next, my question is: Underwear or no underwear? They are too snug to wear boxers (tried and failed) so I tried briefs. Still not sure.Padding? There is some but not a lot to make a big difference. What I like about them? I like the baggy look so these make me feel and look better than those 'other' bike shorts.
