If only I had purchased this sooner!
I hate a burned out lightbulb...so when the bulb burned out in my 2-story stairwell I got the ladder and my husband and went to change it. Unfortunately the original fixture was one of those ugly 'boob' light fixtures and was complicated for my husband to remove in order to access the bulb and in the fumbling he dropped the glass cover. As I was holding the ladder it landed on my head causing a deep gash that required a trip to the ER, 9 staples in the head and a bill for over $1,000. I refused to allow the horrible 'boob' fixture to be replaced and we lived with an exposed bulb for months. I was afraid to replace the fixture with anything that would be too complicated to change. I ran across this fixture by accident while searching for something else on Amazon and thought 'for less than 10 bucks why not give it a try?'. I was afraid it would look cheap, and it sort of does a tiny bit if you look up close, but from way up in my stairwell it looks great. Better yet it can be removed single-handed-ly for a bulb change, and even if it did land on your head it would do no damage. If only I had known before the accident I could have saved $995 in medical fees. Thanks Westinghouse for making this inexpensive and safe alternative to the dreaded boob light fixture.

Greatest thing since sliced bread
The shade is shown here as if to put on a regular lamp but that's not what I have used them for. They are great replacements for those ceiling or wall lamps that have those annoying fixtures where you have to unscrew two out of three screws, holding them in one hand while holding the glass in the other and changing the lightbulb with two more.. since the counter top is not within reach of your ladder to put it down. Just throw out the old glass stuff and pop this on. It snaps on and off easily and fits on the florescent bulbs that are made to roughly the same size as regular lightbulbs as well. They are also useful and cheap enough to spritz up substandard garage/basement fixtures that never had a base to put glass in. Once I found a version of these that simulated 'cut glass' but unfortunately they aren't around now. If only people knew how useful these things were they would be buying them like hotcakes and we would have fifty more versions available by now. So if you are wondering if this thing really 'works', the answer is absolutely! And I've never had anyone notice its a cheap plastic fixture either.

Bad Glare
This was a waste for me. They really didn't deflect the light around the room, and it was pretty much the same glare as the bare bulb. Plus, if you use it on a fixture with a pull chain, it will pull the shade off. They're small, cheap pieces of plastic from China and really not worth the asking price for me. Each to his own though.

Best clip-on lampshade I've ever bought
This is the first clip-on lampshade I've ever bought. I bought this to replace a previous clip-on lampshade that had been in use for 20+ years (it was here when I bought the house). This one pretty much works exactly the same as the last one - instead of looking at a bare lightbulb, you can look at this half-sphere of plastic. It does what it's supposed to do. If you need this, I recommend buying this one. Don't be thrown off by the 4-star rating from me - I don't give 5-star reviews unless something really earns it. I'm not saying this is a bad item, I just think there's a lot of "review inflation". Pro-tip: If you're going to review a clip-on lampshade, I recommend having a few glasses of wine first.

Go ahead, spruce up that crummy old utility ceiling fixture!
Nice way to spruce up a crummy old utility bulb over the landing on the way down to the basement. We often leave the basement door ajar so the cats can patrol at will (mice prevention, you know), and we leave the lights on periodically so they can see better, especially in the evenings. (Cats see great in low light, but their vision, like ours, fails in no-light, and they're just as likely to stub their little pink noses as we are to stub out little pink toeses.) This little doohickey makes the landing look like a little more like a part of the main house rather than some unused utility space. It also makes the light Seem to stretch a little bit further, so we may order a few more to brighten up the rest of the basement. They won't work on exposed fluorescent curl bulbs, but they clip on just fine on flourescent bulbs where the curl is enclosed in a bulb and on bulb shaped LEDs - and those old traditional tungsten bulbs too.

Did not fit
Not true to the measurement on description. Not convenient to get to a UPS drop off. Just thru it away.

THE BEST THING EVER. no not really, its good and does what its supposed to
Mine arrived in a box with no cracks. We live in a house that was built in 1906, and the lightbulb in my sons room is on a slanted ceiling, and just hangs there, all bare and naked and lonely. This does a nice job on covering the bulb (I used a traditional shaped LED 40watt bulb) and diffusing the light. It arrived much quicker than the estimate that was given. Is it beautiful? No.Is it hideous? No.Does it do the job? Yes.Would I buy it again? Yes. I'm sure there are other bare bulbs around here I just haven't noticed/paid attention to yet LOLIs there a flat disk thing on the end? No, its a cardboard thing and is supposed to be removed. Will it fit the CFL 'spiral' bulbs? Maybe with some finagling - I haven't tried but I bet you could make it work if you needed to.

Not using as intended
This product turned out to be smaller than I thought (the fault in measurement was mine not on the description or on the seller). I was prepared to return the item, but then I happened to find another purpose for it. I like that it is not glass and that it was easy to use/install (even I am not using it as originally intended). I like it and am looking to buy another (slightly bigger) one soon.
