Glass Liner Importance
I am a tea drinker, and the huge majority of thermal bottles or containers have stainless steel insides. For some reason stainless steel alters the taste of tea--makes it more metallic.I make tea the old-fashioned way in a teapot, and make two cups at a time. One goes into my mug, and the other is stored in a thermos. I've been using an 18- or 20-ounce thermos (one each) for this purpose, and the tea doesn't stay at serving temperature more than an hour or so, perhaps because I have only 9 ounces stored inside. And maybe my old thermoses no longer retain heat like they should. In any event I searched quite a while for another glass-lined thermos, and settled on this one by eWater. It's made in China, and holds only 11 ounces, and that's filled to the brim. The lid still fits, though, without displacing any of the liquid because it sits on top of the bottle rather than extending into its insides. After an hour of storing tea, the lid is warm. The sides of the container are cool, so the thermal weakness of the unit is the lid. But it still holds my additional cup of tea at good serving temperature for up to two hours, which is what I was looking for.I've read other reviews saying the bottle leaks. While screwing on the lid, it comes to a sudden stop, and a little additional pressure prevents leaks. It's not that much of an issue for me because it will store tea either on my kitchen counter or in my vehicle's cup holder, and will remain vertical. I'm not sure I would trust it, for example, in a briefcase.

Exploded while in car cup holder
The glass liner exploded as I was driving today. It was empty, standing in a cup holder next to me and had no lid on it. The shards of glass flew through the air and I feel lucky to have not gotten any in my eyes.

Not as Nice as it Should Be For the Price
The glass liner is good for coffee as it doesn't impart any smell or taste to the beverage. The outside finish isn't very durable; it's already peeling off. I expected better quality for the price.

Both black & silver thermoses seem to be plastic on outside. Lid absorbs odors and flavors.
***2-Week UPATED REVIEW***I exchanged the black thermos for the smaller silver thermos. I can confirm (measured) the silver thermos holds only 9-oz of fluid, so it IS smaller than the black thermos. I screenshot the ad for the silver thermos that explicitly states it's made of stainless steel (shell) with the glass interior. But I think this silver shell is just colored plastic. When you clink the shell with your fingernail, it sounds dull like plastic. I have dozens of single and double walled stainless steel water bottles and insulated thermoses. Every single one of them "sounds" like metal when you gently strike them. But this silver thermos I'm now reviewing sounds exactly like any other piece of cheap plastic in my house when I strike it. Extremely disappointing. I've reached out to the seller about this thermos but haven't received any word back. I already returned the black thermos and am on the fence about returning this silver one. I expect ads to be ACCURATE. I would never buy a plastic water bottle or thermos and feel tricked into buying this one if the exterior is plastic as it feels, sounds, and I suspect. Why is it so hard to find an insulated GLASS-LINED coffee thermos without plastic on the lid or the pour spout or anywhere that comes in contact with the beverage? BPA is not the only plastic constituent that carries health concerns--not by far. Simply slapping "BPA-Free" on a plastic product doesn't mitigate the health risks of the dozens of other potentially dangerous plastic constituents medical research has already identified but consumer protection boards haven't gotten around to characterizing yet. Amazon, please hold sellers to standards of honesty and accuracy, including nudging them to answer buyer questions. Now I'm on the hunt, again, for a glass-lined thermos with NO PLASTIC parts.***ORIGINAL REVIEW***I ordered the black version because it's a little bigger than the silver version, but the description doesn't share (that I could find) that the black version is coated in smooth plastic. As a result, I've nearly dropped this thermos several times since receiving it last week. Since the inside is delicate glass, this is a big engineering problem, I think. I really want the larger volume, but they should have coated the outside with something grippy--like stainless steel. I'm trying to exchange the black plastic version for the silver version which, I think, is stainless steel on the outside. Buyers, beware how slippery the black plastic version gets, especially if any water gets on it.As for heat/cold retention, the black thermos I use for only about 250 mL liquid at a time. This makes it easy to tip to pour or drink directly from the thermos. A big bonus here is the fat, smooth lip of the thermos that makes it very comfortable to drink from. The thermos keeps beverages cold easily for 1.5 - 2-hrs. It keeps beverages hot-ish (like coffee, tea) for about 1.5-hrs. But I drink the contents within about an hour. I just wanted a container that didn't impart metal flavor to my coffee AND that could be used for any beverage--water, tea, coffee--without retaining the taste of other beverages.CHALLENGE: the plastic lid and silicone sealing ring absorb the odor and flavor of whatever you put in the thermos. Other reviewers claim they had to buy multiple ones of these thermoses--one for each different kind of beverage. I agree. I've tried EVERYTHING (covering in baking soda, immersing in vinegar, using dish-washer anti-stain soap, gently cleaning with soap by hand...) to remove the stale coffee odor from the FIRST cup off coffee I made in this thermos, but the smell and stale-coffee-taste remain, ruining anything else I try to put in the thermos. My solution has been to buy a cork stopper for the thermos. But that means no carrying around outside. I'll use this only at my desk.Word of caution: the glass lining is permanent, so you have to be very careful washing the thermos. I wash by hand VERY GENTLY. And I never switch between hot and cold liquids without letting the glass readjust to room temperature. I also don't pour boiling hot liquids into the thermos (always at most 85-degrees-Celsius). I hope these precautions prevent the glass from shattering as other reviewers have found.A standard stainless steel exterior (or wood!) for BOTH thermoses and an inert lid made TOTALLY of stainless steel or wood-and-steel would solve the two big problems I've encountered with this thermos I've been deliberating over for YEARS. For the price of these thermoses, a cheap, slippery plastic shell (black thermos) is really inexcusable. Plus, you may find you have to buy your own lid anyway if you don't want the odors and tastes of strong beverages like coffee to ruin any other beverage you use this thermos for. I'll update my review if I can exchange the black thermos for the silver one OR if the glass liner randomly breaks.

Legit
Great flask for tea. The open top (non-sippy), glass lining, and vacuum insulation all contribute to enjoying pure aromatics and a good hot tea experience at work. Not a good choice for keeping hot more than about 4 hours. I make a liter in the AM, pour it into a huge, better-insulated flask, and then I carry this around the building, refilling it a few times throughout the day. I have been through 3 of these in two years because the glass lining shatters if you drop it. This one has been going strong for almost a year, but I'm sure I just jinxed that and it will be dropped and broken later today. That's on me. This is a great product if flavor and clean aromatics are your main priority. Disassembles for cleaning. Never leaks.
