Helpful Support Option for Pets with Kidney Concerns
My dog has kidney-related health issues, and I started this supplement as part of their care plan. I give it around the same time daily. Pros: • Gentle and easy to give • Supports digestive and kidney health balance • Trusted veterinary supplement Cons: • Needs to be refrigerated for best potency • Results are gradual and part of long-term care Overall: A solid supplement option when recommended by a vet. It’s meant to support, not replace, professional treatment but worth keeping in the routine.

Good supplement for cats with kidney disease
I use this for my cat that has kidney disease. It was recommended by one our vets. I use this in conjunction with IV fluids 3x/week and kidney canned & kibble cat food. I just put this down my cats throat twice a day with some of her other medicine & supplements. It’s small enough she takes it easily.

Good probiotic
The product itself seems fine. The pills are small, easy to give to my dog, and don’t have a noticeable smell or taste. Unfortunately, it was shipped with an ice pack that had melted by the time it arrived, and the bottle was warm. The label says it is shelf stable for up to 14 days at room temperature, but I need it to last longer since this is a 45‑day supply. Because it’s listed as non‑returnable for food safety reasons, I’m disappointed that I can’t use the full supply.

Don't give up hope, Azodyl saved our cat's life!
We moved to Nicaragua and brought our 3 cats. They are 11 years old and are our children. Probably not natural but we love these girls so much. Well, 2 months ago our alpha cat became very lethargic and just "not herself" we had the vet come out and we had blood and urine tests done. Her BUN (nitrogen urea) was 109, her creatine was elevated to 8.8. She was in the final stage of kidney failure. These numbers are a death sentence to cats in Nicaragua. We got second, third and forth opinions and all but one vet said "put her down". I read and researched and read some more...I ordered several items and had a friend that was back in the States bring us what items I orderd. It was a week of hell waiting to get this medication. It was not the fault of shipping. The shipping was fast. It was waiting for our friends to return. We started the Azodyl pills the night we got them from the airport. We also started Epakitin and NHV tripsy drops. The week prior to recieving these items from the US we had her on fomotadine, sodium bicarb and zofran.that was the only treatment we could get for her in Nicaragua. We did give her 10cc of water every hour, orally, via a syringe, we supplamented with pedialyte every three hours. After two weeks on the Azodyl and other items listed above her BUN was down to 33 and her creatinine was 3.8. We will have her blood tested again in two weeks. She is back to chasing butterflies and being happy. Her eyes are bright again. She is eating again and is full of life. She had lost about 1/2 of her body weight. We now are concentrating on her diet and getting some weight back on her. I am positive that Azodyl saved her life. We have resigned ourselves that she will be on medication for the rest of her life. That is a small price to pay to know that kidney failure is not going to take her anytime soon. The vets here have never seen a turn around like She had. Of course we still have to have people bring it in from the US. Again...small price to pay for our baby. If you are reading this and your cat has CKD, try this. I also reccomend the other two products I mentioned. Good luck!

We believe this product is essential for CRF pets
1. Chronic renal failure is a fatal disease but can be treated and your pet will probably live longer. It is growing in incidence and vets aren't sure why (research feline or canine hyperthyroidism which is often a precursor to CRF). Your pet should have a full blood panel every six months after age 8 and before that if, e.g., your pet is prone to kidney disease (Persians, Siamese, e.g., and others). The earlier you catch the problem, the longer your pet will live. Note that one of the first signs of CRF is an increase in thirst and more output in the litter box. 2. Azodyl was not available for our first two CRF cats. Even so, with home-administered subcutaneous Lactated Ringer's Solution (LRS) and other meds they lived two years of good quality life after diagnosis. (See [...] for very helpful info.) One of the things we do, which you may not find recommended, is give all our pets distilled water. We also feed only very high-quality protein, relatively low phosphorus food, no mystery meat. Two of the best, in our nonprofessional opinion, are Solid Gold turkey and By Nature turkey (also available via Amazon). Keep fish to a minimum; there is a little in the Solid Gold. 2. Our experience with Azodyl. Our third cat lived five years after early diagnosis, this time with Azodyl available and other good care. The Azodyl capsule is too big for most cats, thus we gave it to her mixed in food--but it was not known that one hour prior to a meal is more efficacious. We are now on our fourth CRF cat, who is 18 years old, diagnosed eight months ago from a 6-month check-up. We give her the contents of one capsule of Azodyl mixed in a teaspoon or so of food one hour prior to her main meal, twice a day. Mixed in with her main meal are one or two drops of sublingual B12 complex. On her 6-month check after diagnosis, her results were about the same--and one was back in the normal range. The vet was surprised at the results because we aren't feeding our cat any of the prescription diets due to their mysterious "meat by-product" content. Note: this is our personal choice and we are not veterinary professionals--listen to your vet and do your own research too. 2. Our current CRF cat is semi-feral. It is well-nigh impossible to give her fluids unless we slip her a LITTLE valium, prescribed by our vet. Obviously, it's not a good idea to sedate her twice a week, so we haven't administered fluids as is necessary. Thus far she's drinking enough to compensate but we'll have to start giving her fluids before it's all over. The point is, even without fluids her numbers are good. I think they would have been better with fluids, though. 3. After your pet is diagnosed, anticipate the weather and order a sufficient quantity of Azodyl in the temperate months to get you through the extreme heat and cold of other months so you don't have to worry about dead cultures. That said, the supply we ordered last time coincided with an unexpected hot spell and arrived with melted ice packs. It did not appear to have affected the product's quality, as evidenced by the check-up six months later. 4. This information is anecdotal, of course, but our experience with Azodyl has been very positive. The keys to CRF treatment are early diagnosis, subq fluids, healthy cat food--and Azodyl. Regular checks after diagnosis and a close watch on signs of problems that accompany CRF are necessary. Read all you can--you might want to begin with FelineCRF.com . 5. Now I'm going to order a 6-month supply from Medi-Vet--that's how optimistic I am about Azodyl!

Helping keep our cat alive but WAY too large
The good news is that along with other food additives (aluminum hydroxide and a small amount of B vitamin complex) - along with lactated ringer's fluids - this probiotic is helping keep our cat alive and in surprisingly good stead considering her kidney issue. [As an aside to cat owners who need this product - Normosol was making our cat vomit, which dehydrated her even more, the opposite effect desired - get lactated ringer's solution instead!) On the downside no one seems to be able to figure out how or why animals this small are expected to swallow a capsule this large. Apparently it's important to get the biotic past the stomach alive, hence the capsule which is expected to survive the stomach and release in the intestines. But most animals - especially cats, who commonly develop kidney issues in old age - can't be expected to get something this size down their little throats. Like most cat owners we're opening the capsule and putting the contents in a small amount of very tasty (and less healthy) food as a "pre-dinner" before a healthier normal meal lower in proteins which raise harmful blood values. Supposedly the industry is "researching" how to make smaller capsules, which is mindboggling for me as a layman. We can't make two or three smaller ones and make the dosage two or three capsules..? We can't cut down on the filler..? Or some combination of the two? How hard is this..? On the whole though it's amazing to see how sick our cat was and how by sticking to the fluids and additives (including Azodyl) schedule how well she is living now. Don't put your pet down before trying this therapy!

Amazing probiotic
My kitty's BUN numbers had increased 20 points over normal within two months, and she is in stage II of IV of CRF. I started her on the Azodyl, and a month later, her numbers have decreased 10 points. She She is also on subcutaneous fluids twice a week. I tried using pill pockets to administer the capsules, but she decided since there was something hard inside, she'd chew it first. Of course, once she tasted the powder, she wouldn't eat it. I also tried dumping the powder inside the pill pocket - again, no luck, plus, they pack a lot of powder into the capsules, and I had to use two pill pockets. So, I broke down and mixed it in with a teaspoon of her prescription wet food (Science Diet K/D). Bingo. She laps it up now with no argument. The manufacturer does state the probiotic should be given on an empty stomach. However, their website also states if it is given with no more than a teaspoon of food, it should be okay. I have also read that a teaspon of full fat yogurt also might work. For those of you having difficulty with your pet eating the prescriptive canned food, I had to mix it with regular canned food for about a week. Little by little, I began to mix in less of the regular canned food until all I did was put a teaspoon on top of the prescriptive food. My cat now is eating only prescriptive dry and wet food. Also, my kitty is on Cosaquin for her arthritic hips, and mixing that into the prescriptive wet food was helpful getting her to like it (different feeding than the Azodyl). However, I must state that my cat has maintained a voracious appetite. If your pet is refusing food, try mixing the powder into a very small amount of tuna water (liquid dissipates the probiotics too fast). Some people whose pets were much worse off than mine have had great results with Azodyl and their pets regained their appetite. A very small percentage have not had luck with it (BUN levels over 150). However, please don't give up; this probiotic is at least worth a try for a month. Update: My kitty's numbers continue to fall toward normal, albeit not quite there. However, the vet is very happy with my cat's progress and her condition is no longer considered "guarded." She looks and feels great. I am still mixing the Azodyl with a small amount of food twice a day. Considering my cat's progress, the vet did not feel giving the probiotic with a small amount of food was an issue. Straight from the manufacturer's website: "Azodyl capsules should be given whole and not opened or crushed. If necessary, administer capsule with a piece of the animal's favorite food or treat." You have to keep it cold
We love this product. Our cat has done really well since taking this. The reason for the three star review is because the seller has started sending this product via USPS. This product must be kept cold. The last time I received it, the ice pack was totally melted, and the product was barely cool. I always used to receive it via a FedEx and it would arrive cold. I hope this is not a new trend with the seller as sometimes there is the possibility of the product being left at the Post Office over the weekend.
