Nice chair
Good: Just about everything. Attractive design; easy to assemble; reasonably lightweight; easy to adjust; well-ventilated; comfortable in extended use; good price relative to similar chairs. Bad: The tops of the armrests move forward and back, left and right, very easily, with no way to lock them in place. More annoying than useful. The recliner allegedly has three settings plus lock. I can find no difference in the settings, all three let the back recline with too little pressure. I ended up locking the back in place. Bottom line: This replaced a 30-year-old midrange office chair that was on its last legs. Even allowing for age, the difference in adjustability and "sit" is obvious. Plus, this one doesn't creak every time I move. It isn't an Aeron, but it's closer than the one-third-the-price tag would suggest. I'm happy with it. Five stars.

Great chair, who needs more than this?
Great chair. Feels great for long periods. Easy to put together and feels solid. Arm rest pads have a mind of their own but otherwise it’s great.

Don't be scared! (Long and honest review)
I work in an office where we have literally thousands of Steelcase Leap chairs. I've seen people abuse there's by spilling coffee, green smoothies, and yogurt on them. I've seen them used as step stools and used in 'chair races'. I've personally been using the same one for going on 4 years and I have *never* seen one break to the point of being unusable or beyond the point of repair. I also have an Interior Design degree specializing in Commercial office design and have a lot of respect for the Steelcase brand. That being said, I'm not prepared to spend $950 on a Leap chair...eek. While totally worth it, in my opinion, I wanted something a little cheaper for my home office. About 3 months ago I started having problems with my left hip. Like a lot of people, I was using a desk chair I had purchased at Office Depot...my 3rd in 5 years...and the seat was aggravating my hip. I knew I needed a good quality chair and I had noticed my hip NEVER hurt while at work using my Leap chair. I wanted to give Steelcase a shot. After looking at several Steelcase options, I came across the Series 1 and thought it hit all my high points - lower lumbar support, adjustments for seat depth and seat height, and adjustable arms. And best of all the price wasn't super ridiculous. I had been paying around $150 per chair I bought at Office Depot - 3 chairs totaling $450 - the $430 for the Series 1 didn't look so bad. So I took a chance on a $430 chair that had zero reviews. :) It came fully put together in a large box. It was secured well enough and there was no damage in shipping to the chair. The chair is also super light weight so it was no problem hauling it upstairs fully assembled. It has a nice firm seat that is comfortable and has helped immensely with my hip pain. And while the lumbar support isn't quite as strong as I like, it does give support and I really like the shape of the back of the chair. It feels molded to my back and the mesh is very breathable. The only negative I can give this chair is the arms feel a little flimsy. I feel like I need to be careful with how much pressure I put on the arms getting up and down for fear they might weaken over time. No issues as of yet though. TLDR? I sincerely wish I could give this a 4.5! I feel that would be perfect and very fair. I can't in good conscious give it a full 5 stars because of the arms, but I feel this is a great chair and worth the higher price tag. I would absolutely recommend this to anyone that wants a good quality chair by a respected name that will last for several years.

Comfortable, easy to use, nice adjustments
Note: As pictured i've added larger carpet casters (not included) - I'd highly recommend these for carpeted offices to avoid having to deal with the hassle of a chair mat. I've tried over a dozen different office chairs, and only 2 or 3 have met my expectations - and this is one of them. A few features that I appreciate: - The armrests have a good range of motion for height adjustments, some chairs the minimum armrest height is too low. These ones go as low as I want, and they are easy to adjust (which I do when I switch tasks from typing to gaming) - The armrests are "free floating" so they move around as your elbows move. Some reviewers complained about this, but I actually like it. - The seat height and angle adjustment is good and easy - set it once and forget it. - The seat cushion is very comfortable - supportive and firm, but not punishing. I can sit in this chair for 12 hours and not get sore (although I wouldn't want to do that often) - The only part I'm not in love with is the back adjustment. It has 3 adjustments for how much tension on the recline function. I'd prefer the infinitely adjustable, or at least more intermediate settings. I've settled on the middle setting, but it still feels maybe 10% too firm, while the loose setting is WAY to unsupportive. Overall very happy - one of the best office chairs I've owned to date. And for the price, as far as premium office chairs go, it's a good value.

Really, really good. Armrests are hard as rocks, though.
Very comfortable. Lots of adjustments so you can find the right fit. Been using mine a lot. Been using one for 18 months and one for 6 months. Still look new. I'm 6'1" 250lbs so this chair has not had the easiest life. Very sturdy. Only downside is that the armrests are hard as rocks. Your elbows are going to get sore... fast. However, that is easily fixable with aftermarket armrest covers. Lots of options if you search for "Neoprene Chair Arm Pad Covers" or similar. I tried a few and these are the best blend of fit and comfort. Unlike some of the others they look like they are part of the chair and not some weird aftermarket thing. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01BXBQ5AI I'm torn about giving this five stars. One one hand... it's not cheap, and this is a lot of money to pay for something with rock hard arm rests. On the other hand... it's easy to fix and even if you pay a few bucks for the aftermarket arm rests... this is STILL a bargain compared to other high end office chairs which are easily over 1K dollars. Let me put it this way... after buying the first one I was happy to buy a second. That's the ultimate endorsement right?

I was expecting a lot more, for the price.
I consider this my most disappointing purchase for 2023. I really don't understand all the raving reviews on here about this chair. At the end of the day, it's a nice chair... but for this price!!!! I have a chair from Staples that cost 1/3rd the cost and I consider to be the same quality and comfort level. So I really don't understand why this chair is priced so much higher. Based on the review I was expecting it to be a lot more comfortable, but the seat pad is basic and nothing special. Same for the back, the mesh is comfortable enough, but similar to my lower cost chair. The lumbar support is basic. The arms have a decent amount of adjustment to them, but nothing special. The reclining features are the biggest disappointment. They say there are three options but there is really only two: locked-straight, or free-reclining. I found the tension for the recline to be very minimal resistance, and not enough to provide enough support for anything other than fully reclined. Their third option is to recline with no-resistance, but there isn't a big difference between the two reclining options. Overall, it would be a great chair if it was a lot cheaper, but I don't see enough features, quality or comfort to justify the high price tag. I was expecting a lot more features at this price range. I've had it for a week now, and am considering returning it, just because of the high price! ======== Update: after a week of use, I returned the chair. It just was not comfortable enough or have enough features to justify the high price.

The best chair I've ever had.
This is the best chair that I've ever owned. It is both light and strong. Assembly is very easy. The design is different and prevents the chair from breaking at the nuts and bolts area that previous chairs have broken for me. I have recommended this chair to family and friends and I will buy another if this chair ever fails, which is not looking likely. Also, the armrests are good and very adjustable, which is very useful.

Not what I expected - most likely will return - if possible
I bought this chair on reviews saying this was one of the best ergometric chairs. I disagree. First off the chair comes completely disassembled - without assembly instructions. Luckily the assembly is semi-intuitive. It does contain an adjustment guide. It I had been able to try this chair in a store I would not have purchased it. This chair is sold as comfortable and highly adjustable, it is not. I find the chair uncomfortable and the adjustments limited. 1) Height adjustment is only really good adjustment. 2) Back adjustment has only three options - locked upright, stiff full recline and lighter full recline. Locked upright is very uncomfortable. There is no ability to control range of back tilt which is excessive - feels like 35+ degrees. There is no control of forward tilt short of full upright. Back has strong tendency to throw you forward. As a result I am always pushing back to get into and stay in a comfortable position. 3) The seat depth is problematic. I am 6' 2" and with full seat forward it only comes to mid-thigh. Full back I seriously doubt it would be usable by 6 year-old. 4) Arm rests - Were difficult to install. I had to really work them to get the height adjustment to work properly. The worst is the hard elbow pads. Yes they move in and out and rotate but they float and have no positional lock. I am 75 and need the armrests to get in and out of the chair. As soon as you try getting into or out of the chair the elbow pads move out and rotate making for a VERY unstable situation. I have to be careful getting up especially. Personally I feel this chair should be recalled as hazardous until the elbow pads can be locked in place. 5) The chair is designed to be toollessly snapped together. Once, snapped together several parts, like the arm rests, cannot be unsnapped. This makes disassemble for return impossible. Not sure how I could return if I cannot disassemble. Steelcase normally makes very good office furniture but this one is an exception and it is overpriced for what you get. I am going to give it a week and see if I adjust but will most likely send back. UPDATE - The more I use this chair, the less I like it. I will attempt to return even though I cannot disassemble it.
