Excellent product - apart from the smell - this product does exactly as it says it removes all the gunk off the soleplate of you iron in 15 seconds, I was amazed, where has this product been all my ironing life ? I would advise you to put the iron on a cloth that you can throw away as the brown gunky stuff slides right off on to what you have the iron standing on, also make sure you keep you fingers out of the drips they are red hot and it burns and get a damp cloth ready to wipe the iron with after the 15 seconds. The only reason I didn't give it a 5* review was the smell, its not very pleasant so if you can clean it outside and leave it there for a while I think you would benefit from that I'm hoping the smell will be gone in here tomorrow

First class result BUT….. This product is amazing. My wife has accidentally tried to iron my walking trousers on the high temperature setting and the plastic fabric melted onto the base plate of the iron, rendering it unusable. We’ve never used this product before so we were unsure of what to expect, but it was cheaper than purchasing a new iron so we thought we would give it a try. It came in a packet of two lipstick type applicators with no instructions, apart from a few lines on the back of the packet. Following the instructions, I heated the iron up to temperature, placed it upright and applied the stick all over the surface of the base plate. The stick itself melted very quickly into a thin liquid form and ran down the plate of the iron. At the same time, the room was filled with a vapour which smelt similar to peroxide. More of a nasty smell than any irritation to skin or eyes I have to say, but unpleasant enough for us to open windows, and a few minutes of coughing. The residue, which ran off the face of the iron, dripped onto the ironing board on which we were performing this operation. As a result, we need to purchase a new ironing board cover. Although we are delighted with the job that this cleaner made to our iron, which is spectacular in my opinion, I think it would have benefited from better instructions and guidance on its use and a warning of the vapour emitted by the product when in use. Buy it by all means however, you’ll be advised to use it outdoors and on an absorbent surface that you do not require in future.

This has been the most effective and easy to use external iron plate cleaner I've used. You do need the iron hot enough to rub the stick on it to melt it which creates an awful smell apparantly (I have no sense of smell but I could taste it in the back of my throat and my friend told me it smelled awful so you need an external door open too. It's quick and only needed a couple of applications by the stick and wiped off cleanly. I did also use an abrasive cloth on the plate as that was needed to remove the stuck on stuff. But for that your iron can't be too hot!! Anyway, I've purchased again since so I'm happy enough with it.

It is straightforward to use and works very well. Be sure to use it in a well-ventilated area, it can generate white smoke and a particular smell when using it so be sure to open windows and have good airflow. I have 2 irons, one for the house and one for travel. The house Iron was pretty bad and it looks like new after using it. The package comes with 2 x sticks and one stick was enough to clean both irons. Use the stick wait 15 seconds and wipe with a damp cloth, be sure to do that because if it drips it is like wax. It's easy enough to clean, but why make things more difficult than necessary? If you have a steam iron make sure to turn the steam on and pump the extra steam a few times to get any residue out of the holes otherwise it will get a bit smokey when you use it after cleaning it. Overall I was very impressed.

At first, I tried the liquid and didn't understand why people were complaining about the smell as the liquid doesn't smell. However, the stick DOES! It was not working at first (as I didn't read the instructions properly!) I put the iron on the hottest setting then unplugged it! You must leave it plugged in and the stick only worked when I put the heat on maximum - my goodness the smell is horrendous (best to describe as foxes' wee!). Anyway - I don't know how long the iron had been caked brown! Who knew more steam would come out and the iron would glide smoothly?! The smell is still there though not as bad if you have it on a lower setting which I tend to use. I do think the smell will go over a few uses. It's a shame they didn't put more sticks in the package, you only get one though you get around 6 of the liquids. My iron is at least 10 years old - so the results were good - I didn't realise it had stripes on the front! lol BTW - I’d recommend putting something like an old cloth at the base of the iron because the stick drips along with all the brown stain and it hardens on the surface - so wipe off straightaway! 4* due to the smell!

Works in seconds, does a really good job. A bit whiffy but soon clears. Would recommend
