Five Star Iron - Excellent Value
I had purchased three "Rowenta Steamium" Irons (their premium model iron) before this and all three were defective from the factory, e.g.. scratched coating on the sole plate; "pressure" steam function didn't work. The clerk at the store said to try a cheap iron and it would work just as well. So, I bought a cheap one from Walmart and it had a scratched "non-stick" soleplate. I had to waste my time and trouble returning all of them. I saw this iron at Target and it looked very well made and easy to handle but liked the Plum color that Amazon had and bought it. Well I am very satisfied. Really light (don't let them tell you that it's easier to iron with an iron that has some weight to it because it's not) and it makes ironing even stubborn cotton shirts a breeze. The cord doesn't get in the way with it's novel design either. Only one quirk that I have noticed is that the water must be emptied from the tank when it's not in use or it leaks when it's stood on end. I just hope that this lasts because I don't think I'll find another as good.

Great, Low-Cost Solution
I really don't like reviewing items like this until I've owned them for awhile, but wow! Take it from an ex-military guy, this is a great iron for the price! My last two irons were Black & Decker and a Shark. Prior to that, I had some high-dollar irons because many folks out there told me that I needed to spend the money on an good iron. Boy, were they wrong. All of the irons I've owned proved to me after the first use that we were going to have a struggle every morning. You could just tell that you were going to burn them up quick (brown, burn marks on the bottom), spit too much water/steam out, or simply break them. This little T-Fal does a remarkable job for something this cheap. The cord design is simple, and keeps the thing out of my way when pressing my shirts and pants. The steam is tremendous at full bore! I have kept mine just slightly before the mid-mark and it presses great. All wrinkles come out, and it's very smooth! The bottom appears to have some interesting pattern on it... some kind-of non-stick T-Fal stuff, I'm sure. Whatever it is, it makes ironing very smooth, especially when used with the steam. I did notice that when you have the steam set at full-bore it will get your clothes wet. I don't think that any iron should spit out water from the bottom, so that's why this only gets 4 stars. Water should "only" be deliverable via the spray button, IMO. The iron also didn't come with a bottle or small container to fill up the water reservoir. However, it is not needed because you can just put it under your sink and fill 'er up! What a concept, right? Makes it very easy to fill and I've yet to hear any complaints at my home about it. All in all, great buy! I'm very happy with this thing.

Just the best iron ever
I have owned one of these before when I lived in England (where the brandname is spelt "Tefal" incidentally. Not sure why the change was necessary!). Amazon as usual shipped it super-quick, and it arrived well packed and undamaged. I love the T-Fal brand mainly due to the ceramic non-stick coating on the bottom on the iron. This makes the iron simply glide over the fabric (Oh wait - that's why its called Ultraglide!). In addition, it produces a ton of steam, and gets creased cotton or linen flat and smooth instantly. It also has a ton of great design features, including a wide base which also doubles as the thing you wind the (long) cord around, and also a wide opening into which to pour the water. What is it with other iron designs that provide a pin-hole for you to pour in the water?? The iron i had in the UK was very reliable indeed, so that bodes well for this. So - In short - this may cost more than your $20 bargain iron, but it really is worth every single penny. Buy one now!

A pretty good iron
I suppose I am probably looking for an iron that does all the work for me, as I do lots of ironing (I don't use a clothes dryer and my husband wears cotton shirts)and this didn't fit the bill. I was looking forward to this iron being a step above my cheapo model, but to me it is only a run of the mill iron. It is nice that it doesn't stick on the clothes or snag my clothing - so I really like the soleplate. As others have noted it is kind of heavy which make it a little uncomfortable to use. In addition, like most steam irons I have used, it spits water all over my clothes, at various intervals, even though I followed the instructions exactly. I really dislike that. I do like the burst of steam button and use that a lot. Believe it or not, I have had cheaper irons that get hotter. I have to iron most things on the wool setting since I use natural fabrics. Overall, I do like the iron, but it is not my perfect choice of an iron. Maybe that just doesn't exist, though!

Great all-around iron --- with automatic shut-off
Great all-around iron. Purchased this for my daughter at University. It has high wattage so gets hot and stays hot which is vital to great looking clothes! It has automatic shut-off so it won't stay hot when you want it to cool down - I think that this is an important safety feature, especially for a college dorm room. Has lots of steam and very long cord, too. She also likes the color. I appreciate other purchasers' reviews and that is why I choose to write reviews. Amazon reviews help me choose which products to buy. I sort product choices by Average Customer Review to help decide which item to choose. I have found customer reviews to be very helpful and hope that I am paying it forward by providing this review. Thank you to Rowenta for making this great steam iron and to Amazon for selling it and shipping it so quickly. I love Amazon!

Outstanding Iron!
I'm a quilter, so I buy irons frequently, unfortunately. I've had this one two months, and I like it. If it were a little heavier, maybe one more pound, it would be practically perfect in every way. It steams beautifully, and there's a mister button. I like the fact that there are two rows of steam holes in the bottom of the plate. It seems to make everything crisper when pressed. I have nothing negative to say about this iron at all. If it will last more than a year, I'll be truly happy with it. Addendum November, 2013: We're at six months that I've used this iron, (I was using it at least a month before I reviewed it - bought it in mid-April) and it's still going strong. I'm even tempted to up it to 5 stars, but I still wish it were a little heavier. The ceramic plate is fabulous. The manufacturer probably doesn't want to hear that I've actually melted pin heads and ironed over things I shouldn't have, and my friend who comes to quilt every week has gotten sticky stuff on it several times, but the plate is still in perfect condition. It cleans up beautifully, it irons everything with ease, it's easy to fill and the fill cover hasn't broken. I really love this iron, and if it lasts longer than a year, I'm going to up those stars to five! Addendum June 29, 2014: It's lasted a year, 2 months and 18 days! It is still working as if were brand new. I have used Brita-filtered water in it that entire time. I use this iron almost daily, for hours at a time, and it has exceeded my expectations. I hope I can add to this review next year. It now has five stars from me!

You can't go wrong with this iron.
We read all the reviews on irons. Thanks guys! Yes there are more expensive irons and supposed well know name irons that should be good but after reading the reviews we decided to give this little gem a try and we love it. Have had many irons in the past but this is a keeper. Went to my married son's house and he was ironing a shirt with the same iron. We laughed and said how much we all love this iron. The iron sits up nicely. The steam is wonderful (probably one of the most important things for us) Cleans easily. Perfect weight. We usually only use the hottest setting and it works perfect. Just a really great iron.

Lots of problems
When I first got this iron I thought it was OK. A bit heavy and clunky. I wanted it for sewing and was only replacing a $12.00 Walmart iron so I wasn't expecting the world. I soon found it snagged delicate fabrics. Now after 6 months of light use it is basically unusable. It leaks (not a little) water pours out of the bottom. So the steam function is unusable. The bottom finish is not cleanable. I have a small amount of something on the iron bottom that is welded to the finish and cannot be removed. It leaves brown spots on fabric. I will have to buy a new iron.
