It needs batteries? And how its clarity and bass?

No batteries needed. The clarity is excellent, never fatiguing. The bass is good to very good, but not overwhelming or booming. Overall, I love these headphones and would give them a strong 8.5 - 9/10. Well worth the money.

What is the outside diameter of the ear cushions, and how firm or light is the clamping force on these?

The ear pads are large. 4 inches across. 1 inch deep. Your ears comfortably fit inside. They feel like expensive lamb gloves and are cushie. The fit / pressure is light not tight. The result is you can wear them for hours with no fatigue.
