Great head unit
Replaced an older model Clarion on my boat no problems with the installation. Had to buy a new remote cable from 6pin to 8pin new other then that everything works great. One note Clarion customer service is terrible I needed an answer on that cable got a phone number of a local wholesaler who didn't have a clue with a little research found one on Ebay, happy ever after

Happy boating
I had to make a new frame to mount it in, but it plugged right in to my 2004 radio socket and works great!

Absolutely the Bomb.
I installed this unit to replace the old model. This thing is sweet. The bass is unreal. The Sirrius and Pandora options are great. I would not hesitate to buy this for $200.00 . It retails for a lot more . It sounds beter than the 2k system i my ruck. Thanks again Amazonian's for the 2 day delivery and being there !!!!!!!!!

Hope the second one lasts
I purchased this mid Aug 2014 and installed it in my boat. Used it 6-10 times until we put the boat up in Sept. Come spring the radio was dead and would not power on. The radio is installed in a glove compartment and the boat is stored under a full mooring cover under a shed. I purchased another one with the extended warranted for $40ish. I would recommend the warranty given that one failed with such low usage. Also you need to realize there is a 1 year warranty only if installed by an authorized Clarion dealer. If you anyone else does it its only 90 days. The radio for features cannot be beat for the price. There is a rear External USB port that you can hook your phone into for charging and music playing. Also you can connect into RCA cables on the back and have a 3.5 mm jack to connect to phones or MP3 players. CD is also nice. I also purchased the Clarion witeless remote. Ready for a summer of fun. I would recommend this, hoping that the second one lasts.

Dead On Arrival
Arrived DOA. First one was shipped in retail package with no interior padding, and no accessories (manual, harness, etc.). Looked like it was kicked all the way from the Amazon warehouse. Did not even try to apply power. Returned it and received second one, also in only its retail packaging, but with the padding and accessories intact. When power was connected, I could hear the unit run through its self-test. Turned on power and unit went into continuous "boot loop." Voltage at power and switch leads was 13.8V. Tried reset button several times with no success. On a different subject about this CMD8: I purchased this to replace an older Clarion XMD3. It was plug-and-play with the old power connector. Unfortunately, the face plate of the CMD8 is narrower, and sits higher than the XMD3. This leaves all four screw holes from the XMD3 visible. Lesson learned here is to verify installed dimensions before assuming it will be a drop-in replacement.

Nice look and nice features but just not holding up ...
2 of them bought....2 of them failed and failed quickly. Nice look and nice features but just not holding up in the marine environment. Will look into fusion.

Stay away if you have a weak battery system.
This is my second Clarion unit. Performance wise this is a great unit. Pros: -Sounds Great -Looks Great -Simple Cons: -Only 6 Station Presets -Sleep/Idle Current Draw (Explained below) -Audio Controls are buried in menus that are someone difficult to get at, why they got rid of simple knobs for bass/treble is beyond me. This unit current draw while Idle (Off) is unacceptable. I've ended up putting a on/off switch in my boat and two Interstate SRM-24 in parallel to combat the current draw (mainly did parallel for run time so I don't have to start the boat after a few hours). When the unit is powered up from no battery power (still hasn't been turned on) it draws 160mA of current. When the unit is turned on and then off it draws 80mA of current. If you disconnect the Illumination lead (orange/white wire) from 12V it will drop down to 40mA. Having the Illumination lead connected to 12V will always keep the lights illuminated when off, if this is wanted I recommend hooking it up to a switch or on the interior light switch. I've ended up just cutting the Illumination lead for now and left it floating (not connected). 40mA sleep current is not acceptable and Clarion should be ashamed this passed QA like this. To put the current draw into perspective a 120 minute reserve capacity battery will be dead in 26 days. With my parallel 280 reserve capacity and cutting the illumination lead I can get 121 days which is still crap but manageable.

Perfect replacement for my CMD4
Thank you Amazon received in 2 days. Install was a breeze because I replaced my CMD4 so the wiring harness fit right in. Love to control my Ipod with the head unit. I don't miss the fact that there is no blutooth, because there is nothing more reliable than a wired connection. I added the SiriusXM SXV300 tuner and connection was easy.
