Baden Deluxe Series Croquet Set 29 inch mallets

I bought this set two years ago and its still holding strong! I love it. I play by myself mostly and sometimes with my brother. The wickets are sturdy which is a MUST for anyone. Things to remember and advise IF purchased: Do not use a metal hammer to hammer in the 2 colored stakes or wickets. DO NOT!!! Use a soft rubber mallet for each. (technically you should only use it with the stakes NOT the wickets) If you don't do this will create indentation in the wood and probably bend the wickets. You shouldn't even use a hammer on wickets anyway. Unless they are golf wickets, which theses are not. Make sure the ground is soft when hammering into if not, buy a cheap plastic stake (used for tents and such) and "pre-drill" a hole into the ground where the stakes will be. All in all, playing on soft ground is better and its easier on your wickets and stakes. The stakes and wickets are NOT weak, Unless you ABUSE them and are ROUGH with them. Do not presume they are weak, you cant treat them like crap. Duhh. This is a regulation garden style croquet set. Its not interchangeable with golf croquet accessories. Problems: One problem I ran into is that one mallet handle split upwards where the brass fitting lies (on the end). I believe the split happened because the mallet head was not screwed on all the way. So make sure you regularly check the tightness of the mallet head while playing. DO NOT OVERTIGHTEN THE MALLET HEAD. You might strip or break the fitting!!!!! I was able to fix it simply. All I did was take some strong wood glue, put the brass fitting back in its place, and clamped it with a vise joint plier, using a towel of course. I think its actually stronger now than before. I have had no problem since and you cant even notice the crack line. Another modest problem is that the white coating on the wickets tends to tear off at its ends from long use and or rough ground. The coating is like "Flex seal" or "plastic-dip." Simple solution: Tear the old coating off and re-dip it in the white stuff rubberized/plastic coating. Looks brand new. Its not a problem if you can fix it. Positives: I love that there is 6 players. Love the handles. Love the carrying case. love the quality of the stakes and wickets. Good set to buy if you treat and apply it correctly. Balls are holding up well. PS If something breaks, Baden will send you a new part free of charge.

I want to make a roller cart for them, but otherwise, they're great and high quality.

First off, I want to explain that I have never taken the time to write a bad review. I buy a ton of stuff online, and I have bought some things I haven't loved, but never felt strongly enough to sit down and complain about them! SO...the fact that I have taken the time to warn others about this set means this set is BAD! The set looks very nice with rubber-foam handles on the mallets, nice case, etc, HOWEVER...During the first game, one of the mallets broke. The head broke off the handle. There is a screw that connects the handle to the mallet, and that part breaks off when you hit the ball. The screw part is glued into the stick, and it breaks out of that part and winds up in the head. Then you cannot attach it anymore, and the stick is useless. Also, if the head is screwed on firmly (which is what you would think you should do) when you try to unscrew it, the screw comes apart. I read the other review that said that mallets had broken, but the reviewer said her brother had anger problems, her family was rough...Ours broke just in a nice, quiet game with Grandma and Grandpa!! When you hit the ball, the mallet comes off, and the metal screw part remains in the mallet so you cannot screw it back together again. Within a week, 4 out of 6 mallets were broken. We used to have a croquet set that was in the family for about 10 years--never had a problem. This set didn't last a week!! Save yourself the hassel and expense of getting this set and having to box it all up and return it. I promise...it will not last. We are very careful with our stuff.

I liked our Amazon Basics Croquet set but a mallet broke & the wickets were flimsy. The grandkids beating in the scoring posts meant we were headed toward the posts being an issue too. So, I'm glad I purchased this Baden Deluxe Croquet set. The Deluxe set with 29 inch high mallet may be too small for someone taller, I choked up on a 33 inch mallet so it wasn't an issue. This set would be better if the storage bag was longer because who wants to screw on & off the mallet heads every time you use it & store it. The wickets are durable so far. I'll probably epoxy the mallet heads onto the sticks. I like this Deluxe set and may purchase the Baden Champions set too.

Had one when I was a boy. Now I have two boys and they are a challenge to beat. Wife even is a contender. Very fun and brings back good memories

Tired of corn-hole? Get a real game! This is a fantastic set for the money. Fun for the entire family.

My wife has Rheumatoid arthritis and the soft cushioned handles make it easier to hold the mallet. Overall construction is great, the brass male/femele connectors are smart and well designed. We love it, for the $, can't go wrong.

Just unboxed and it seems to be of good quality; however, I received two red handles and no yellow handles. I don't want to go through the process of returning the entire set as I want to start using it so, unfortunately, I think I am going to have to settle for what I got.

Would NOT recommend for the price, poor quality paintwork and 2 of the mallet sticks are not even varnished, just the raw wood. VERY DISSATISFIED as ordered this for a photoshoot and expected for the price that a quality item would be received, it was NOT.

This is definitely well made! Sturdy and fun!
