I'm Sorry I Haven't a Cloze
Slightly perturbing when the book you are getting for your 9 year old is partly about a bit of English you've never heard of - Cloze certainly wasn't anything I ever did at school - but this is not too advanced for him and he's slowly working his way through the exercises which are varied and usually have good examples he can learn from.

Excellent, easy to use vocabulary testing book
This 11 + vocabulary book includes 1400 words and tests knowledge of synonyms, antonyms, homophones, homographs, idioms and close. The book starts with an introduction section which includes advice on how to use the book as well as details about bonus material and offers learners taking the tests. The tests themselves are laid out in a clear format easy to read format with instructions detailing what you have to do in each section. There are 42 tests included within the book as well as all the answers and in some cases explanations of why things are correct. This book provides a really easy way to prepare for the vocabulary part of the 11 + exam and would also be a useful resource for anyone looking to brush up on their vocabulary knowledge. I wish there were more books like this one as I have learnt lots from it. Well done to the author for producing such as useful book.

A great aid for homeschooling
For those of us now challenged with home schooling our children because of the coronavirus outbreak this book is an ideal aid, and for anyone reading this in a few years time when coronavirus is a distant memory well, this is still an ideal aid! The book is a well structured and comprehensive set of tests on verbal reasoning which are targeted perfectly at the age group advertised. There are 1400 words within the books of all types, broken down into 42 sets. Each set has sections consisting of interesting and engaging activities to test your child’s learning, such as filling in blank spaces, missing letters, synonyms and homographs. Importantly for a parent who hasn’t learned English grammar since their own school days there are answers provided at the back of the book for reference! The book is particularly useful in preparing a child for a test or exam, as the notes at the front on how to use the book suggest not spending more than 10 mins on each section, giving practice at timed activities. Sticking to the time limit also helps to keep the learning interesting and engaging. Overall the book is an excellent and comprehensive learning tool which I highly recommend.
