Q: Is this the same thing as the J2000-9NE except the grips?

I’m not sure what the J2000’s are, but the ones I have are the classic red’s with the thicker grip.

Q: Are the grips thicker on these or are they just thin dipped handle grips prone to eventual cracking and needing taping?

this is a thicker dipped handle and a fine tool. But it is not near the thick, well built, heavy duty original Klein 9NE.Look for the Klein made pre 90's. I bought this new one as I nicked the cutting edge of my old ones. Klein still makes the best, just disappointed. No, the grips won't crack and they won't need taping.

You have to buy seperately. This is just the pliers.

not sure? 9in is pretty common, Channellock is my runner up to Klein and they have an 8in model of linesman pliers
