OTTOGI Rice Tteokbokki, Spicy Rice Cake, Authentic Korean Soul Food, Serving for two (426g)

This was absolutely fantastic. While serving in the army, I spent one year in South Korea. Tteokbokki was one of the dishes that I loved. Later, I found myself in Okinawa, Japan. I was pleased to see that some restaurants served the dish as well. Now that I’ve returned to the states for good, I wanted to find a way to have this dish again. This did the trick!First of all, it’s easy to prepare. I followed the simple instructions and it came out just as good as I imagined it could. While on the thinner side from what I remember, the rice cakes were still that chewy glutinous goodness that I remembered. From the other reviews I read, the spice and sweetness level of the sauce seems to be very subjective—dependent on one’s threshold and appeal for spice. I thought it was great. It wasn’t too spicy to me, but surely reminded me of how Korean spice tends to be spicier than average. While there was certainly a level of sweetness to the sauce, I didn’t find it overbearing at all. It only added to my appeal for the flavor. The addition of fish cakes was a very nice touch. It blows my mind how they could maintain a relatively good texture and flavor in a freeze-dried fish cake!The only con for me was that the noodles come in a single package. I didn’t want to prepare both servings, so I had to split the bundle of freeze-dried noodles in half, and put the one half in a sandwich bag. Not a big deal, but I found it odd since the rice cakes, sauce, and fish cakes came in two single-serving packets.Overall, I’m very satisfied with my purchase. I can see myself ordering some more in the near future. Tteokkbokki is something special, and this brand is able to capture it in such a pleasant way.Random tidbits:• I think I read a few reviews stating that the sauce was too watery/runny. For me, it was perfectly thick. I just want to remind people to follow the instructions. 400ml of water for both servings, so use 200ml for one. Bring that water up to a boil, add everything, and keep it boiling for a good 5 minutes! Should be a nice consistency by then. 👌🏽• I decided to take up on a review’s recommendation by adding some shredded mozzarella cheese to this dish. Not bad at all!!

I'm 4 months pregnant and was watching YouTube videos of people eating this and decided to order it at 3am 😂 I wasn't sure if it would be good so I ordered 1 package. It's really good sweet chili flavor small bit of spice and the rice cakes are like dumplings. The spiciness isn't that strong I added more spice personally but over all I recommend if you want to try something new. It's a lot of food I had a bowl and still have plenty left over. Very filling. Shipping was fast on this order

This was sooo good for coming off Amazon. I really wasn’t sure how they would turn out.I’ve seen people complain about the rice cakes being “hard” I actually boiled the rice cakes 3 minutes ahead before putting the ramen noodles in and everything else. I also ready it’s super salty but I added extra water to avoid that. The soup Still came out thick and perfect.It has the perfect heat to it and the flavor was amazing the ONLY reason for the 4 stars and not 5 is because of how sweet it is. Which I read about and was prepared for. It might bug some people and it was definitely hard to ignore but 6 hrs later and I’m definitely craving it. So good and easy to make!

i’ve had countless ttoebokkis and this is hands down better than any i’ve ever had in restaurants and as store boughts. The taste is amazing, has a very authentic taste. If you were to go to South Korea and buy spicy rice cake at the street food stalls, this is how u can imagine the taste would be (closest match). the rice cakes are very very chewy and fresh. it didn’t have a strong smell and cooked perfectly. the sauce is amazing and i believe would be perfect for people who don’t eat much spicy too. this tteobokki has a slight spice only. the fish cakes were really fresh too and had a good taste. the only complaint i would have for this is, altho it’s two servings, everything comes in one packet. as in the ramen is together and idk, it LOOKS like it wud be one serving. and i wish it was kind of cheaper. but i would 100% recommend this to everyone who loves spicy rice cake or wants to try some :)

It wasn't my favorite flavor. I really like the cheese flavored much better.

So good. But also SO SO spicy. And I say this even though I love spicy food. But the texture of the rice cakes are perfect. The flavor is awesome. The noodles are good as well. I was very happy with this and will be ordering it again. But maybe next time I will only add one sauce packet.

It was spicy but very salty not much other flavors that can be tasted. I don't really know how to describe it (Sadly I threw it out after a bite) but I would recommend just eating this type of food at a restaurant. Maybe it was me and I just didn't prep it correctly. I just ordered one to try.

It was spicy but there’s no flavor! Also rice cakes are very soggy no matter how long you’ve cooked them.
