Excellent Case
This case is well made. It is roomy for a dreadnaught. I bought a Recording King here at Amazon and there is extra space. It will serve well for storage at home and the occassional trip out with my guitar. If you want something to keep your guitar safe in a plane spend $600. (Calton?) It has plastic latches that swing down and snap. That design avoids the metal pins that stick up and are a danger one must always be careful with. Matching of the rim lip was good all around. Feels solid. I tried a Gator purchased locally from Sam Ash and workmanship and quality were not as good as this case but the fit was tighter but still a little loose. Actual inside measurements: length 42.5 inches, lower bout: 16.5 inches, upper bout: 13.25 inches, body: 22 inches. These measurement are taken without compressing the padding any.

Wonderful case for travel
I purchased this case specifically to travel with my guitar. In the past, I have always been able to carry my guitars on board in their soft gig bags, and store them in somewhere in the cabin. Have never had any flight attendant turn them away. However, I was planning a trip overseas on Cathay Pacific and their website specifically stated that all instruments needed to be in a hard case and that they could not guarantee that it would be accepted in the cabin. Paranoid, I purchased this case for my trip and checked my guitar in, gritting my teeth and hoping and praying that my guitar would come out safely on the other end (keep in mind we had 3 connecting flights). Not only did my guitar make it safely in the case, but the case only had a couple of scuffs on the outside and was otherwise unharmed as well. The TSA lock is a really nice extra. This case is solid, with a firm molded outside and a luxurious soft inside, and some sort of extra padding between the two layers. I have a dreadnought and there is a little extra room for the body (maybe 1/4 inch), but I just stuffed a soft cloth as extra padding and the guitar remained snug. For the price, you cannot beat this case for a travel case.

SKB quality in cases has degraded over the years.
I would say it's more of a 3.5, but couldn't hate on it THAT much.. I recently bought a Taylor 114ce. It came with a gig bag, and I didn't really want a gig bag for the guitar. My dad had this same model number case for a Blueridge BR-85 (dreadnought guitar). My Taylor fit in there nice and snug, but his case is a good 10-15 years old. His case also lines up very well, leaving no gaps at all. Pros I like it's latching system. They're better than the traditional metal clips. It's also pretty sturdy. After getting all the edges alighned it shuts with a fairly good seal. There are some edges that have a tiny bit of a gap, but it's not that bad. Also I like the green plush lining. Cons It doesn't fit my taylor very well.. There is a fairly large gap on each side of the body of the guitar, where it just doesn't fit.. It's pretty far off. I checked SKB's site before ordering this item and they say SKB 18 case is the case for my guitar. I was definitely hoping the fit would be better. It appears SKB isn't the same company they once were. My dad's 10-15 year old case is better quality than this. It shuts properly everytime without having to align. has better seals. The same model number has changed. Also like other people have said. If you push on the center of the case it will indent.. You don't even have to apply a WHOLE lot of preasure. I do still feel that it is much more safe than my taylor gig bag though. All and all, I like the case. I got what I paid for. I could have got a case straight from Taylor that probably would fit my guitar perfect, but that was $200. I only paid $125 for this, and it really isn't that bad. I don't know if I will buy an SKB case in the future though. Quality has clearly degraded over the years. Edit - Just a follow up on my problem with the guitar not fitting. The Taylor I use this guitar for has a cutaway. I've stuffed a scarf in the cutaway and it keeps it secured in the case MUCH better. I shouldn't have to be doing that though. and there is still big gaps on the sides. I took some pictures for a reference.

Great Protection for the Money
Bought this for my trusty Guild DV-52 and got it delivered in two days from the fulfillment center here in Phoenix. I have two other SKB cases for my two Fender electrics (Strat and Tele); so I pretty much knew what to expect. I was not disappointed, the SKB closed tightly, the latches are tight and of good quality, and it seals very well at the joints. The lining is plush, and it fits the upper bout of the Guild pretty well, but the lower bout is shy of touching the lining by about 1/2 inch or so. Overall, a nice fit. I honestly would not ship my prized Rhode Island made Guild in this case (I probably would not ship it at all, anyway). But for storing it in the house, or taking it out once in a while, the SKB fills the bill quite nicely. I think you'd have to spend three or four times as much before you could get a better case. One word of caution: double check the measurements of your beloved guitar before pulling the trigger on this case.

Seems nice and sturdy
As the other reviewers stated, this is a sturdy case. I don't have much experience with other cases but this seems like a pretty good one and it fit my guitar well. The four latches (one locking) seem very sturdy. If there is any weak point it may be the hinges. I suspect they might succumb to repeated rough use, but would be easy to replace if they ever do - just drill out the rivets and replace with stronger hinges for just a few dollars from any hardware store. I'm sure I'll be passing this on to my children and them to their grandchildren and wouldn't be surprised if this case was still in use more than a century from now. One thing to note: Mine came with a furry green interior. Update: Having used this around other people with guitar cases I can state without reservation that this is far and away the best one I have seen. Every piece of hardware on this thing is way better than any of the others. Archaeologists thousands of years in the future will find my guitar in perfect condition, protected by this great case.

The finest guitar case I have seen.
This is a very fine hard case with thick protective lining. This replaces my wife's old SKB case that is probably more than twenty years old. The old case is still in great shape, but the lining finally deteriorated and needed replacement. SKB offered to repair the old one for free if we paid shipping costs both ways. Rather than do that, I got her this one and will reline the old one as a home project. If you know how I can get the shipping rates Amazon enjoys, let me know. It seems that SKB uses the same case shell for this line of guitar cases and the price difference is in the quality of lining. My wife's guitar is worth the price of this fine case and I will have the fun of learning how to reline the old one without time limitations.

Junk
I purchased one of these cases a few years back and it was/is great. This one I purchased expecting to recieve the same durable and well made case. It arrived in damaged packaging and in damaged condition. The case was molded and assembled incorrectly so that the edge near the hinges around the body of the guitar would not come together when closed. Leaving a nice big gap for the weather and other elements to offend my guitar. Back to Amazon it went. It might be the same bad unit they keep trying to sell to others. See the reviews, or else all the cases are now made this poorly by SKB. I will not EVER by another SKB case if I cannot physically inspect the case prior to purchase.

a flimsy hardshell case
This SKB 18 case fits a J-45 very well, which is why I bought it. There are numerous problems with it, and ultimately I am disappointed with the case. The aluminum interlocking case edges are bent and misaligned, and it takes some effort to engage the latches. The inside EPS (Styrofoam) shell doesn't seem to be bonded to the plastic outside shell of the case, and as a result the whole case is flimsy and twists easily. The plastic outer "hard" shell is very thin and soft, and dents easily with a slight push of the finger. This may be a result of the shell not being affixed to the inner EPS shell. I was hoping this case might be of similar quality to a Martin ABS plastic case I have, but it is not even comparable. This case will probably be OK to get around town, but I will definately treat it like I would a cheap chipboard case, although it is somewhat stronger. I would not trust it for serious use, and I most certainly wouldn't trust it to knock around. I have many other cases, both new and vintage, and this case is not very good compared to others that I have. I wish I could have found a Gibson case, or a laminated wood (archtop-style) case instead of this. This case is not a good value for the money.

Brilliant. I have owned a few of these case for various guitars. I'll happily put my 1973 Guild acoustic in an aeroplane hold in one of these.

Recommended for any Acoustic guitar with a long neck or oversized headstock.
Perfect fit.. exactly what was needed. good quality, very secure and priced well for peace of mind. SHort of having a custom case made, I was disappointed with other cases in the market because of not accommodating the long headstock of twelve string guitars... this one fit like it was made custom for my guitar. adequate padding and well constructed. have some trepidation about the pvc latches but they fit securely and both sides of teh molded case align pefectly closing securely around the guitar body inside holding it firmly. no bounce or slack which aids in holding tune .. a big plus.
