Sewing Lingerie (Singer Sewing Reference Library)

It's a challenge to find books, instructional videos or even patterns on sewing lingerie. This is a definitive book on techniques that can help you develop your skills and confidently make patterns. You can buy underwear that you love and fit well (tap pants, panties, boy shorts, etc) and take them apart to build your own pattern. These techniques will help you create perfect seems and stitch pattern with confidence. It's funny how easy is actually is. You use a basic straight stitch for most of work. Benefits of learning to sew lingerie: - you will save a ton of money - you can create a pattern with your favorite purchased undergarment and make in your favorite materials (however bras are much more complicated with difficult to find materials) - use remnants for most projects and thin decorative elastics which are cheap - the sewing techniques can be applied creatively to other projects - you will be a better sewer if you practice these techniques (Average pair of underwear = $5-$20) (materials to make yourself = 40cents-$1.50) (Average slip/nightgown = $15-$100) (materials to make yourself = $1-$15)

I haven't found myself referencing this book as much personally, but for how small the book is, its chock full of detailed information about lingerie fabric, sewing methods, stitching and whatnot. A great deal of the book is about lace, which is useful and can be common for lingerie in general, but maybe not as useful for those who don't plan on using lace anytime soon, but it is still useful to have around and make notes on. A few of the points in the book are common knowledge sewing basics and things that can be found in other sewing books I own, such as waist measurement and whatnot, but the majority are greatly detailed notes on what seams to use and why, what types of fabric are useful and what can be used for lingerie making. I would say if you are new to making lingerie, like me, this is definitely one to check out!

This book does not include patterns like the one from Kwik-Sew on the same topic, but for the price I paid used, it was definitely worth $5.00. The full-color photos give good inspiration for making lace-trimmed panties, and the book does include one pattern for a tap-pant I'd like to try. It covers basic lingerie sewing techniques well, and it includes instruction for embellishing things like embroidering or beading lace. If you are looking for nightgown and robe design ideas, the Kwik-sew is better, but for basic technique instruction and panty-making ideas, I like this one.

The book is well worth the prize. Follow the tips and instructions and your lingerie will look stunning and beautiful. Even if you are a seasoned sewer you will learn a lot about embellishment and how to apply lace to your garments. This book is one you want to have near at hand, so you can have a quick look every time you feel unsure about a sewing technique. For weeks I had the book on my nightstand and just enjoyed the beautiful pictures. The pictures are precise and help me more than a video because they are so well done and show you every step very very clearly.

This volume is an excellent guide for sewers interested in making beautiful intimate apparel. It does not deal with bra-making, but covers slips, panties and tap pants, teddies and nightgowns. It contains clear instructions and photos. This volume is part of an out-of-print series from Singer and worth getting your hands on if you can find it.

Exceptionally well written and photographed complete instructional manual. Turned total frustration into joy. My wife and I spent a whole weekend trying to figure out how to operate our new Serger from the literature that came with it. It was hopeless. We were on the verge of returning it to the manufacture when I saw the book on Amazon.Com. Ordered it and solved all our problems. I would recommend it to anyone who wishes to purchase a Singer Serger or any of the small Sergers.

When I decided to make my own underwear...I needed a bit of help. So I went looking for books (old-fashioned I know but I love them) that could give me tips on everything from enclosing the crotch to applying elastic. Singer's sewing library has long been one of my favorite resources but I didn't have this book. I bought it, used, from The Editors. It was in great shape, small tear on the spine but fixed quickly with gaffer's tape. And it has all the information I needed to get started. Five pairs of undies in and I've saved about $50 by making instead of buying. Great book, great price and great condition.

Nice, it's a bit old fashion (1991) but the techniques are always usefull. Very clear images and descriptions. A classic

No trata el tema de confeccionar fajas ni sujetadores,salvo sujetadores deportivos y "sleep bra" es decir unos sujetadores para dormir, que no dan verdadero soporte al pecho.

Not just the pictures as Ive excpected. Great guidens for beginners on how tpo chose fabrics, sewing tips and so on. I'm not new to this , but I find it very useful.

Je souhaitais un livre afin de commencer avec ma nouvelle surjeteuse de la confection de lingerie. Ce livre donne beaucoup d'exemples technique sur l'assemblage de lingerie. Même si les modèles ne sont pas toujours d'une grande modernité, les photos sont biens prises, contrastes parfaits afin de bien voir tous les détails techniques. (Positionnement des aiguilles de battis pour l'assemblage, positionnement du pied de biche...) Quant aux délais: livraison parfaite!!!

Really good book, easy slips to advise on fabrics, seams, how to handle delicate fabrics great step by step info. A must if you are starting to sew undies and delicates.
